I've always kept my lock nut key in my glove box... and I didn't check and went into the dealership for my 24k... they couldn't find it.. puzzled... I went with them to my car to search for my lock nut key... nothing... zip...

Of course, I will continue my search for it, however, is there anyway to get a replacement key? or take off the lock nut without the key or anything?

I'm still using my OEM mazda ones that came with the car.

I'm pretty sure Mazda is able to take them off without the key... I've taken my wife's car in for service and they didn't ask where the key was. So either they searched through the entire car or they had other keys that fit.

Tire23 also managed to take the wheels off my Speed3 without asking me where my lock was... Maybe they looked for it?

... If you cannot find them and the dealer won't help you, I know a place that will get them off... Pretty much any mechanic shop will do it. They have a special bit that bites into the locks. But it will damage the locks (I guess not a big deal since you don't have the key anymore :))

Oh and I think it only works on locks that don't have the spinning head... Which if you are using OEM Mazda locks, you should be ok.

cj, I think they most likely searched through your car... because the dealer up here in Ottawa definitely searched through the entire car and couldn't find it and asked me where it was. And yes this is a mazda dealership

Those bastards... I should start throwing it in more creative places... Maybe get rid of the neon sign that says "WHEEL LOCK STORED HERE"... Shit.. :( I feel violated...

If they won't take them off, PM me and I'll hook you up with a shop who will for like $20-25. Alternatively, CT sells bits that will remove them.. But it's like $40+

dealerships have master keys for wheel locks they can remove your wheel locks even if you don't give them a key. I fyou lost your key, probably just have to buy a new set

Grab a socket that what would fit snug over the lock and lightly hammer it on. From there just loosen it. It's worked for us when we've lost our lock keys.

They do have a key, because I lost mine on previous car and they still managed to take wheels off. Since then I dont buy those locking nuts. What if you get stuck on the road, how are you gonna change your wheels?

The dealer should have a key to open if they are the OEM ones because I spoke to a mechanic once at a dealership. He pretty much had a box full of keys to open any OEM lock nuts.

I have wheel locks on my VW to which I also lost the lock nut. I contacted McGard and they told me to take up close pics of the bolts and email it to them. I think I paid $25 or something to get a new wheel lock but thats what you have to do...

I sent Joe a PM regarding that... he hasn't replied, but I asked him if his tech's could take them off, I'll just buy a set of new lock nuts from him.

Any way to make the car throw it up?

Take a socket from your socket set (that you can ruin) make sure its one size to small. Smash it onto the lock nut and then use your socket to take it off. Its the quickest, redneckest way if your stuck.

yah you gotta be gentle though... just pat it on it's ass for a bit. Works wonders. It'll drive better too.

Not sure if Mazda is the same but my wife lost her wheel lock on her Acura. The dealership has all the lock keys so that wasn't an issue. I was more concerned if she ever had a flat that she would not be able to change the tire on her own. The cost to replace the wheel lock key was $70.00. A set of new wheel locks + Key was $45.00. Needless to say I bought new wheel locks for the car.

whats the point of locking wheel nuts, (don't go there Betty Mazda...lol)
if one can buy something like this thieves will buy it and use it to steal your wheels.

Exactly... and don't we all have insurance anyways?? But, if you DO happen to have them and lose/wreck your key (using an impavct on a lock nut WILL wreck them), the the Princess Auto set is a pretty good bargain. Shops will charge you a bit, might as well get your own!

Not every wheel lock can be opened by those.

And it's never about being 100% fool proof.

It's always about eliminating a certain level of thief. You will never be able to stop the most determined master mind, but you can deter 16 year old hoodlums lol.

And insurance has a deductable, or do you like paying $300-$5000 for replacing rims that are worth $400?

ok so if we are able to use other keys aside from what we have to remove the lock nuts, then are lock nuts useless?
