    Angry New bumper needed

Was down near Heartland yesterday and got rear ended coming south on Mavis, I was so mad. Sitting at a red light and some girl didn't realize that red means stop and ended up rear ending me. Needless to say, I have to get it replaced and make some calls today to see how much it's going to cost. Anyone have any idea from the top of your heads and recomendations for dealerships/bodyshops? I've read a few reviews but a lot of them are out on the East end and I'm out in Brampton/Mississauga area.

That would be a great opportunity, but his avatar has a sedan in it so that's likely what he has.

Who cares what it's gonna cost. You're not paying for it, right?

Yeah, not paying for it but I want the job done right and if I can get a good job done and at a decent price maybe I can negotiate something and not have to deal with the insurance companies...don't want to pay out the deductable (it's my understanding that despite whose at fault, the deductable has to be paid, correct me if I"m wrong). Thanks the the link by the way but yeah, I have a seddan.

Yeah, that's incorrect. When it's not your fault, you pay nothing and your rates won't change.

With that in mind, I'd bring it to a dealer and make sure it's done properly rather than trying to save money.

Why pay out $500+ when you can get it for free, and have a rental while it's in the shop?

Really? Maybe some of the insurance people can chime in. There's a couple of them lurking around here.

I've never had my rates change from a not-at-fault crash, and I've had a couple of them.

    They're not supposed to.

Your rates go up even if you're not at fault? Perhaps there's a claim limit?

Why would it be 50/50? What sort of justification could there possibly be for that?

if both cars are moving it's 50/50 if the car being smashed into is stationary then it's 100 for the guy at the back..

i know it's retarded.. hence it's crucial you get witnesses..

    http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/DBLaws/R...h/900668_e.htm

sorry i remembered it wrong and this scenario takes 3 vehicles into account and the MIDDLE car is the one who would be 50% at fault..

    SECTION 9.3

If all automobiles involved in the incident are in motion and automobile "A" is the leading vehicle, automobile "B" is second and automobile "C" is the third vehicle,

    (a) in the collision between automobiles "A" and "B", the driver of automobile "A" is not at fault and the driver of automobile "B" is 50 per cent at fault for the incident;

    (b) in the collision between automobiles "B" and "C", the driver of automobile "B" is not at fault and the driver of automobile "C" is 100 per cent at fault for the incident.

    SECTION 9.4

    (4) If only automobile "C" is in motion when the incident occurs,

    (a) in the collision between automobiles "A" and "B", neither driver is at fault for the incident; and

    (b) in the collision between automobiles "B" and "C", the driver of automobile "B" is not at fault and the driver of automobile "C" is 100 per cent at fault for the incident.

Cause they assume B got slammed into A from C. That's why, everyone who drives manual, make sure you sit at the light in neutral. If you get hit, and get pushed into the car and found the gearbox in neutral, your not accountable. But if your in gear, they consider (or assume) that you were in motion, thus 50% at fault.

but come on.. if it's a small tap (still visible damage) you will most likely turn your engine off putting car in gear/neutral and pulling on the HB.. and with automatic you'll put it in park.. are you gonna say "but sir.. i was in neutral"..

Good point, my statement was on the bases of a major collision. oddly, if someone forgets on a fender bender thou it could make a difference. But I agree with what you say.

When I rear ended my buddies car. (After he decided he missed a turn and slammed on the brakes without thinking, I slid on ice right into his rear bumper) I was at fault and my insurance company paid for all his expenses, even his deductible. You shouldn't have to pay a thing if she was at fault.

Alright, the verdict is in, dealt with the insurance company yesterday and got a quote for the repairs. So, the insurance company says I'm not at fault and that no deductable has to be paid and that my premium remains the same. Checked out one dealership collision centre and they quoted just a little less than $1000 to remove and replace the bumper cover...could be more if when then remove the cover the actual bumper is damaged as well...so glad I don't have to pay for any of it. I gave the girl the option to deal outside of the insurance companies but she insisted that I could just push the bumper back in and that there was nothing wrong...that's when I flipped on her and was like "WHAT! NOTHING WRONG? MY BUMPER IS STICKING OUT ON THE SIDES WHAT DO YOU MEAN NOTHING WRONG!!!!" I think I scared her a little but she deserved it, she hit my car and tried playing it off like it was nothing, but anyways, thanks for the help everyone.
