New rims on the Orange?

Hey guys so I was at Tires23 the other day and damn now I want new rims! Can\'t say that I will get them but I\'m definitely thinkin about it. Here are the first few that I\'m thinking about... they\'re mostly light weight <20lbs.

Work Emotion looks better with low offset (eg 35mm or lower) ... I think our 3 needs the 47mm for 17x7

Yeah I know my photochop skills are ass:D Could have told you that myself! man some of them look like they\'re rolling on 20\"!

Yeah I kinda like the work emotion but it is true that they look alot better with the bigger offset. and the RPF1\'s and Oz\'s are great because of the weight.

The choice right now is between a carputer, rims, or a laptop... gotta start saving!

I like the 2nd one. Oz Superleggera. I think the gunmetal just makes your car too dark. These ones will definitely stick out.

if you do some homework, you may find some stores still have the gunmetal ones ... i saw a store in First Markham had them (not sure about bolt pattern) a couple months ago
one drawback of buying discontined rims is hard to find replacement when u need to

Are you thinking the Superleggera III\'s ? Don\'t they retail at about $900 each?

They regular Supers go for about $300, but they aren\'t split-rims.....damn I gotta win the lottery

The III\'s are way to pricey... I think the regulars are in my league! Not sure if the III\'s fit even... plus they only come in 18\" and I don\'t think I\'m gonna up size my wheels.. would look nice but rubber is gonna cost me especially if I want to go for more track days.

why not powdercoat your stock rims as opposed to buying new one\'s? Much less expensive...

I want to get wider and lighter rims... the stock ones are too skiny IMO. Plus I need new rubber as I kinda melted the stock tires during the track day. I figure why not get some nice rims while I\'m at it? Powdercoating is still possible, but will prob do it in the winter when I put my snows on.

I hope you plan to stay with 17\'s cause from the sounds of it, you want them for performance. I am sure you already know all that and won\'t go into all that jazz...

I think I might upsize to 18\" and use the stockers for track (thanks martin!). Possibly go for the Enkei RPO3... nice light weight rim and I think it would look HUGE on the 3! I\'ve got concerns with rubbing in the front as I think I gotta put the dampeners on a harder setting. There\'s too much travel on the springs. oh well, I should drive more carefully one of the disadvantages of lowering your car:(

when I went to Tires23, and had a look for the RP03, definitly a nice rim and light weight, too bad I already ordered EVO6 one week before they showed the special price on RP03:D

So you went with 18s... how\'s the rubber? I\'m not sure if I want to spend that much on wheels anymore. Sure the RPO3\'s are $1500 but rubber is at least $800 for a good tire (thinking Fuzion ZRi) and for the 17\" it\'s about $600. However the cost of the rim is more ($1700) but tires are cheaper.

Plus with 18s you got the looks too... ooohhhh sexy! But $2200 dollars is alot for wheels albeit high performance wheels. I do need to replace the stock tires so i\'m thinking of it as an investment (damn money pit!!)

I\'m starting to lean towards the OZ because of weight but the Enkei\'s are a good rim so I\'ve heard. And being a materials engineer, their forming process is interesting and should yield pretty good strength.

Oz is pretty good too as they use FEM to distribute the weight while maintaining structural rigidity and \"supposedly\" has tech from their F1 endeavors. trying to find some more info on their wheels.

Oh yeah how are the wheels? did you get them installed already I\'d love to see them! Do 18s really make a difference? I think if I see them I\'ll have to go bigger or i\'ll regret it.

Well.. One of the reasons to buy new rims is to increase the width of the tire.. larger contact patch = better road feel and handling.
You can do that with either 17\'s or 18\'s.
You have 17\'s already.. why not go 18\'s. Why put the same size back on??
The Rpo\'s will look huge on the 3 (which is good) becuase they do not have a big lip. My rims have the big lip which gives the illusion of be smaller (spokes are not as long)

Any way.. my 2 cents.. go with 18\'s. Your sidewall will be a litle thinner.. the ride a little harsher, but it will handle soooooooo much better......

I haven\'t really \"test\" my tires and rims yet:p , still drive slow to run-in the tires. but yeah it\'s stiffer than our 50series tires while I have 225/40/18, you\'ll feel every joint, bump and others. I still on stock shock/spring, so quite sure it feels stiffer/harsher when I lower the car.

I can already feel all the bumps in the road thanks to my coilovers, man some of toronto\'s streets are HORRIBLE (Sorry soopabanana, I feel for you bro). With lower profile tires the ride is gonna be harsh. .. but look so sweet. I might have to do this for my car, she is my other girlfriend you know ;)

whodily, have u make any decision yet?:D at the meet you still have stock, but love your coilover adjustment knob at the engine bay.:p

after 1 mth of driving, 18\" definitly feel so good, my Yoko ES100 stick to the road very good especially when raining. The day when AIR France crashed, the tires exactly sticked the road and I felt very confidence to make drive all the turns/corners at higher rate of speed, and yes way better than our RAss.

No decision yet... waiting for a good price. I think I might leave it for next season and get a laptop instead. Would get more work done and less time fooling around with the car.

... But I really, really need new tires. I don\'t want to get new ones for the stock rims cause I don\'t want to bother getting new rubber for them if i\"m gonna get new rims anyways.

Ha ha dude I can tell you want to unload those badly. They are nice rims but i\'m looking to get 18\" if anything. Yeah I know they would be good for the track but I don\'t have $1k lying around :( If I did i would probably pick them up!
