Normal, no, that\'s why the engine light came on, the computer believes there\'s a problem somewhere in your car. Go to the dealer and have them pull the codes.

Definitely go to the dealer.

Mine has come on for two different reasons. First time it was a part that needed to be changed. I believe it was a Purge Valve.

The second time is was because my gas cap wasn\'t on tight enough. Boy was I embarrassed on that one.

Depends on what it is really. For my two instances it was fine but there is always that \"unknown\" factor. It could be something else. Do you have any other symptoms or just the light. Check the gas cap and if it is not on properly it is likely that but you still need to go and get the light reset but at least you will know the problem and that it is ok to drive.

So if the gas cap is not on tight enough it sets off the engine light and even if you tighten the gas cap the engine light will not go off until you take it into the dealership and have them reset it? if that is the case i think that was some poor designing in my opinion or just a plain money grab on the manufacturers side.

if you KNOW it\'s your gas cap - you can quickly check that - then all you need to do is replace gas cap and disconnect and reconnect the battery. and even if you DO take it to a dealer, they won\'t (shouldn\'t) charge you for that. it happened to our grand am and we took it to the dealer and the only thing that costs you is your flippin pride :p other than that no cost (ok some fuel and time)

I think they should have designed it to check the gas cap and reset the light once the cap was seated properly to save the hassle of having to pull the battery cables off or driving it to the dealership to do it. plus it would let you know sooner if it was the gas cap or something else that actually required work. saves you from having to risk going to a crooked dealer(if you don\'t know much about the dealer) that tries to sell you repairs that are not needed to try and get money out of your visit.

Right now the car is still under warranty, so take it to the dealer, won\'t cost you a penny. Happened to my previous car, light came on and the first thing I did was check the gas cap, wasn\'t on tightly, engine light went out after driving a few minutes.

Update: So i went to scarbo mazda to check out my Engine light beacuse i hate markham mazda after how they ***ed me over many times.

So they came up to me and said if i changed my windshield, so i said yes, at markarm mazda. So they told me my Engine light is caused by no senory system on the windshield.

WTF?

In january, i went to markham mazda to get my windshield fixed. They told me i have to fix it there in order to remain my warranty. They recommend purchasing the aftermarket windshield because there are no difference except no senory system. So i agreed since i\'m not handicapped and it\'ll save me 400 bucks.
They didn\'t inform me about it\'ll affect my engine!!

So i went back to markham mazda and told them what happened. THe service manager said beacuse i purchased an aftermarket windshield. But why would i purchase an aftermarket windshield if it\'ll **** up my car in the longrun? Scarbo mazda also told me Mazda dealership isn\'t suppose to repair windsheilds in the first place. I could\'ve purchased an aftermarket windshield without mazda if they are not even gonna warranty me. And right now, they don\'t seem to be giving me any warranty even tho i purchased it thru the dealership.

So now not only that i have to pay $51 bucks for my service at scarbo mazda. My engine light is still on and the service manager at markham mazda said he\'ll call me tomorrow.

I also told them to give my $51 bucks back!!

What should i do?

My M3 is about to celebrate it\'s 3 Month anniversary. Since I have received it, I have had to take my car in for a new fuel pump bc it wasn\'t starting correctly and there was a high pitched squeel and the air bag light wouldn\'t shut off while driving and there was nothing and no one in the passenger seat.
After I received the car back (they only installed the new Fuel pump by my request THANKS TO THIS SITE :), yet didn\'t deal with the other 2 issues ) 3 days later my engine light came on. I called and they took it in last Thursday. Because I work in TO, and I took the car to Guelph City mazda bc that is where I bought the car and feel they should take the responsibility and not make it another dealer\'s problem I have been racking up mileage (it\'s a lease) and stupid $$\'s for gas, I am sure you can imagine the look on my face, the thougths in my head and the words coming out of my mouth when the engine light CAME BACK ON...LESS Than 24hours from picking it up in Guelph and going back to TO....UGH!

I called the service guy who told me he didn\'t know what was wrong, couldn\'t take me until next week but i was ok to drive (how could he say that if he doesn\'t know what\'s wrong) The gas cap was fine on both times as I have always been trained \"Pump and 3 clicks\" So can\'t figure out what the prob is and am now just super annoyed.
I sent a letter to my sales guy who has yet to respond. The car is in again today.

I really like this car but the number of issues in this little amount of time and certainly this soon is really disconcerting.

Thanks for letting me vent...any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Peace
melemel:(

I would take it to another dealership. Since these are all warranty claims no matter which dealer you take it to they should fix it, and will be reimbursed by Mazda Canada.

As for the problems, I feel for you. We are approaching three months with ours and so far the only issue I have to take it in for is a really high pitch squeal coming from the front left brake when the car is cold :sarc

Ok today i went out to get breakfast and suddenly the check engine light came on. I know i should bring it back to the dealer. But the problem is i have the cold air intake on. Should i take it out and put the old one back in before i take it back to them so they do\'nt void my waranty?

Leave it on but bring it into the dealer. Do a visual inspection of all connections to the intake like hoses and electrical connectors. I\'ve seen a couple of 3\'s with CEL and the problem was loose connections.

The light went off for a while after i parked my car. Then the light came back on for some reason when i went out to drive again.

This light is really bothering me. Found out after maybe an hour it turns off by itself then after when i drive normally as in under 3k rpm it stays off. But if i rev it higher then 3k the light comes on. Anyone help? I made an appointment already but it\'s not until next monday which sucks.

When the light is coming on, is it raining or damp outside?

I ask this because I see that you have a CAI. Since I have installed my CAI I get the CEL if I floor it past 4000RPM when it\'s rainning. Although if I accelerate slowly past 400RPM it\'s OK.
Then the next day if it has stopped rainning the light goes off.

So now I take it easy when it\'s raining, and haven\'t got the CEL again.

Hope this helps.

Actually I just disconnected the battery for few mins then when I put it back on the light went off even if i dumped it in the rain. And yes the light turned on when i was driving in the rain (slowly)

But anyhow thanx for the info. :)
