Will the our older trannys cost more to fix one day due to scarcity? Will the 5 speed auto measure up to standard or just offer a smoother ride? I haven\'t paid for my 2005 Mazda 3 GT yet, but I did get it for $26,500 including automatic and gfx (no leather seats). Any suggestions, I\'ll probably have to cough up a couple of grand more for a 2006 Model. Will the dealership be understanding if I make a switch? :(

i\'m guessing it will go up a grand at most, if its more than forget threaten to walk out.

They have a $500 deposit, it\'s harder to make threats at this point...tell me if I\'m wrong.

Dealers won\'t give you the same cash deal on early 2006 models. I think the list price for a 2006 GT Gfx will be around 29500 (without leather), Prices will be firm until Febuary. I need this car by August, since I got into teacher\'s college and my company car vanishes soon.

5sp Auto not only gives extra comforts on ur ride, it also makes better fuel efficiency (1 extra speed means lower RPMs on same speed while vs. a 4sp auto). Also, some ppl (like me:D ) would gladly choose a 5sp auto (if available) over a 5sp manual, coz our 3 has sportronic shifts on auto tranny, so if there\'s a 5sp auto w/manual shifting, then there will be less points on buying a manual tranny (consider the same amount of speeds, fuel effeciency)

as long as there\'s a torque converter on the automatic, the manual tranny will always be more efficient.

Getting a bit off-topic BUT ...

While I was at camp this past weekend, a buddy of mine was talking about his beloved A3 and it\'s DSG... \"it\'s NOT TIPTRONIC!!!\" hahaha. We kept teasing him.

Anyways. 5MT vs 5AT? I\'d still choose 5MT if I still have full mobility of all four limbs. It\'s the fun of the drive! Leave the panel gear shifts for the real race cars and tiptronic for those with bad clutch-side legs. :D

I doubt it since the same transmission is also used in the early 2.3L Mazda 6 (afaik) and there is a 4-speed in the Mazda 5 which is probably also very similar.
