Leaving tomorrow morning for Austin, Texas. Have to go there cause we are having some staffing issues at our office there and I\'m gonna try and straighten it all out and whip that place into shape ;)
Should only need to be there for about ten days, and I\'ll be sure to post up some pics when I get back.
Anyone been there before? If so, any suggestions of what I should do/what I should see? I\'m staying downtown.

Go to see the Texas state capital tours. And make sure you get the petite cute UT intern girl to give the tour. Theres alot of interesting information about the capital, but I forgot it all. If you are going to austin there are a hell of a lot of bars and music on 6th street. It is a college town, so you will see alot of hot college women in the local coffee bars, and around the main street to the Capitol Building. Because it is a college town there\'s gonna be alot of young liberal, hippie, socailist, tree hugging hippie type. This is rare in a Red conservative state such as Texas. Since your Canadian you should feel at home in Austin. If I think of anything else I will add it. However, I have only been to Austin 1 time in my life. so this has been a while ago:)

If you have 10 days, I dont know if its all work. Probably you wont be getting a day or two off. However, If you do get a free day, I say go to San Antonio. San Antonio is by far the tourist city of the state.

Dioxviad, thanks for the tips. I actually booked my hotel cause it\'s between 5th and 6th streets. So far I have to say though that the city is not what I expected. I thought since there was this huge IT boom here that it would be all nice and new glass buildings and whatnot but nope, it is all old historic type buildings. People so far have been pretty good, and the food has been awesome! I\'ll make sure to upload some pics when I return in about a week.

Yes it is not a High tech city; I don’t know what you were expecting. But many Texas cities are relatively historic. Nothing like Canadian Architecturally inspired designs. I hope you get to take a tour of the capital. As a Citizen of Texas your supposed to have the right to enter the building and sit in the lobby to hear the proceedings of the day. When I took the Capital building tour, it was free, and it was given by interns of the nearby UT campus. Quite alot of information about the place. Also lots of photography opportunities in and outside the rotunda. Very Impressive.
When I went I was there for the SXSW, Music festival. And the city was more vibrant because of all the music bands. And the bars were more rowdy. although they are rowdy to begin with.

I\'m actually heading off to the capitol building right now. It looks really nice so I made sure to charge the digi cam last night. As for music, there is definately no shortage of live music to see. Still though, I\'m not really impressed with the city. I guess all of my American co-workers talked it up too much. I\'ve done my fair share of travelling to US cities over the past couple of years and this place is just somehow different then the rest.
