i was wondering if anyone can help me out with these:
if i put a k&n filter in my 2.0 mazda 3, do i need to unhook the battery? just for the replacement filter not the cai or anything.
has anyone installed a k&n cai on their 2.0 mazda 3? if so, any problems with the installation or understanding the instructions?

For a drop-in filter you won\'t have to disconnect the battery.

You might have a problem with the CAI in flooded conditions. We just had a 3 towed in yesterday with hydrolock and the guy had a CAI installed. Now he needs a new engine. Winter you should have no problems.

Will it be fixed/replaced under warranty or will the poor chap be bending over?

I have the K&N CAI, but I have the 2.3L. The instructions from K&N were easy to follow and installation is somewhat simple, even for a guy who has never modded a car before. It is the removal of the stock intake system that is the pain in the ass.
I also went with the K&N over the other brands b/c you can convert it in to a SRI for the winter or if you are worried about hydrolock. I know with the snow tires I have the wheel well gets nice layer of snow and ice build up and covers the vents, even though you still get air in from the front.
Everything should be very similar if not the same for the 2.0L as the part # from K&N is the same for both 2.0L & 2.3L.
Oh ya, no CEL or any problems so far.

Hey FlipSpeed, did these CAI have by-pass valves installed?

Unfortunately not, but with all the water this guy took in I don\'t think it would make a difference. The water line reached his glovebox.
Not a problem NAMIBOY!

The K&N was a little expensive compared to the 300 bucks tax in for the AEM but I paid 428.00 total. This was the cheapest price I could find in the KW/Camb,/Guelph area. And I phoned all the authorized dealers from the K&N website in the area. I looked all over the internet too but shipping cost were crazy, plus the exchange rate and customs, easily over 500 bucks. I am sure you could get cheaper in the Toronto area though.

oooooooooh I would feel alot better having this setup than having to replace the ENTIRE ENGINE. It is quite expensive though, but an SRI in the winter would be bad in winter wouldn\'t it?? I mean if you get yourself into a ditch or something, that extra low-end torque could cause problems, but all in all... shouldn\'t drive into a ditch I guess :D
wonder where I should get this to save $$$

bluntman, check this out, before i asked the question on here i emailed k&n but didnt get a reply for a couple of days, so i asked on here, now i got a reply from k&n. i think maybe they are saying to unhook it cause they figure it cant hurt, so just say to do it:
Hello John,
Yes is it a very good idea to disconnect the negative battery cable for about an hour and a half to two hours. This will reset the short term memory that your computer stores and this might make it run a little better. If you have any further questions please call us at 1-800-858-3333. Thank you for writing and have a great day.
