Hi I was just wondering, what exhaust system will give your 2006 Mazda 3 sport gt the most overall added performance, the best race sound, while remaining street legal. I would normally lean towards the HKS one, but the removal of the second CAT makes it sound not street legal.

So any information/opinions about what is permitted and what is not, and any links to any offical information would be appreciated.

well... street legal... Borla... magnaflow... ummmm... Draxas has a cat back version...

Thats about it. As for power gain and noise.... Not much of either. Sorry. Why spend 5 bills for a shiney tip?

There is a reason you remove that 20 pound catalytic converter... Noise and Power:D

I would like to get the HKS, but I also don\'t want the coppers pulling me over and giving me a big ticket either. To me it sounds the best theirs and Magnaflows reviews seem the best.

Thanks for the reply Sabio

I had a Borla stainless steel exhaust on my contour SVT a few years ago. A very nice system and excellent fit/finish. Was not too loud but enough to be noticeable over the stock system. Obviously this may not be case on the 3 but I\'d say they\'re worth a look.

If you find any good info post it as I\'d be interested to see it.

I\'ve been looking into getting an exhaust system for my 3. I figure I might pick it up now and wait to install it in the spring at the same time do my drop.
Any suggestions on where to get the cheapest prices?? Local pick up prefered. I was leaning more toward Magnaflow still open to suggestions.. depending on prices.

By the way. Has anyone here been to Noyz Boyz before?? Any comments on them? What would the main differences be if I went with the Magnaflow/Borla\'s, than say if I got some shop to custom make me a system?

Magnaflow vs. Borla

Price:
Magnaflow - US$389 shipped (no taxes/duty), CVR Motorsports (http://www.cvrmotorsports.com/). They can arrange the products to be shipped within Canada.
Borla - US$500 + shipping + possible gov\'t ripe-off; or Tires23 (http://www.tires23.com/) for around CA$700

Quality (material):
Magnaflow - T409 stainless steel (lower grade than T304)
Borla - T304 stainless steel

Sound:
Both give deep low tone, no ricey coffee can sound. I haven\'t heard of Borla in person and can\'t compare the loudness. But according to reviews, Magnaflow is louder; acceptable to me.

Performance:
Magnaflow - 6hp & 6lb/ft gain. Official dyno (http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/dynos/15861.jpg)
Borla - I think I read 4-6hp gain before but can\'t find it now.

If you want custom-make exhaust, make sure it\'s mandrel bend to ensure smooth and maximum air flow.

If their price came close, I\'d get a Borla!

Dilema Dilema.

I\'m leaning towards the Magnaflow at present. Just mainly cuz its so much cheaper.
I emailed Tires23 yesterday to get their current prices and if they are able to supply both.

But it comes down to $$$. :)

you\'ll get a price of around $700-750 for the magnaflow from tires23...at least that\'s the quote i got back in May.

www.cvrmotorsports.com is your best bet...since they can ship within canada for the magnaflow.

here\'s my experience with the magnaflow (http://www.bozzak.com/mazda/viewtopic.php?t=276)

I think you should go full exhuast. Like the Vibrant. MMMMmmmm So Sexy. The Tip alone adds 3 hp.;)

Maybe you could pick up a slightly used exhuast somewhere

MBN: great work work on your post with the pics & vid clips. Good info! The system looks amazing on the car.

From the sound clips above I would go with the Borla, this is just personal preference. I prefer the melow note vs Magnaflows louder and slightly buzzy sound.

MBN or others, would the highflow cat increase sound, especially inside the cabin? I\'m assuming it would as the regular cat is restrictive and therefore must muffle the exhaust note. Would appreciate your thougts.

i know these exhaust fit the sport, but i was wondering do they fit the sedan as well? are they both the same? if not, which brands will fit the sedan?

magnaflow does, although the tip is recessed a bit on the sedan.

vibrant has a sedan specific and a hatch specific exhaust.

draxas\'s exhaust (by Thermal R&D) has an adjustable tip.

not sure about the borla.

thanks :D

you\'re right, a high flow cat will increase sound; although I can\'t say what a magnaflow with no high flow cat sounds like.

in-cabin sound is heard the most by rear seat passengers, since the exhaust can sits below the rear driver\'s side passenger footwell.

as for the sound in those vids, things have quieted down a lot and it has a nice low rumble. either that or 1) i\'ve gotten used to it, 2) i\'m going deaf, 3) a combination of 1) and 2) :)
