Hi Just bought an 04 Mazda 3 GT 4dr but the last owner lost one set of the keys and remote.
Just found a used remote from Ebay but not sure will the P5 remote will use on the Mazda 3 since the out look of the remote is same.
Please help if anyone knows about it.

Thanks

Ben

it may or may not work but as AFAIK you need TWO separate remotes (fobs) plust the little key tag with a serial number to program a third fob. i\'m not sure what happens in your situation :(

edit: crap i can\'t delete the post and now i am unsure if this applies to the key or the fob or both :sarc

Wow, this is weird the all powerful Majic is at a loss?

Actually the little key tag number is only used to cut a new key.. The number allows the parts dept to cut a key without having an original.

A fob is programmed by inserting the key turning it on a few times, openning and closing the doors a few times and then you press the buttons and the fobs work. as few as one as many as you like.
Programming a remote (http://www.midwestcarclub.com/mazda/manual/esicont/en/srvc/html/B3E091467543W03.html)

Problem is, the fob from a P5/Prot is configured different, if you use it, the buttons are reversed if I recall.. like the lock will unlock etc..

Now programming the keys ie: immobilizer, completely different. Programming a key. (http://www.midwestcarclub.com/mazda/manual/esicont/en/srvc/html/B3E091467002W02.html)

Best of luck... Becareful, you do it wrong, you are towing your car to the dealership.... :D

LMAO!!! either my wires got crossed or i was way too excited about the car at pickup that i understood u needed original 2 keys and the tag to get a new key (with or w/o fob) .. which was kinda weird b/c i almost ordered a new key but it was way too much.. i guess they still try to get some $ outta ya ;)

Thanks guys for your reply. Those link are really help.
One more questions... Can I just use only one key to program the remote?
Or I have to get the other key got program then go program the remote?

Maybe I should get the remote then go to dealer to buy a new key and get them program together..

I think you missed the answer in all the links, the P5 remote will NOT respond the way you expect it to.. as for needing a key, you do need a programmed key to program the remotes.

Hope that is easier to understand.

I have a drawer full of old remotes.. they don\'t work in the M3. or the M6S/M6W I should mention, even though they look the same the wiring inside is different.

The Biz is right the only remote that will work with your 3 is one from a 3. The Visteon(remote manufacturer) part numbers are completely different and are not interchangable.

Here\'s what to look for:

P5 remote - 41706 (no good)

M3 remote - 41846 (good)
