I like the eBay concept.

What I don\'t like about eBay are the shipping charges that some of the companies charge. I\'m not talking customs, GST and PST (although those suck too). I\'m talking about overinflated shipping the seller charges.

Bought a car charger for my PDA. US$1.99! Great! Then they factor in US$8.95 for shipping. USPS no less. I\'m sure postage for that thing\'ll only be 2 bux. Not that I got hoodwinked as I always check the shipping, but it irks me that vendors don\'t put the true min. price of their item and recoup it thru fabricated shipping. How about a bluetooth earpiece? Great deal but US$24 shipping. Those things weigh like an ounce. How big is the frickin box? And again, USPS, not fedex or anything.

Another thing that irks me is that you can\'t look back at the history of the vendor for over a specified time. Not too long ago I was about to buy a car part from a vendor. The vendor had thirty transactions and was at 100% satisfaction. Then I looked at the feedback history - the vendor was a buyer of some silly paper manuals (9 cents each transaction) for all 30 transactions. A scam history build, that\'s for sure. After awhile, these transactions will be unretrievable and you\'d think you\'re dealing with a reputable vendor when that may or may not be the case.

eBay has its good and bad points me guesses.

I found this annoying with the shipping costs on eBAY too as in the beginning, however; I heard from my frds afterwards regarding the TRICKS on these overinflated shipping charges. This has something to do with the listing and transaction charges that eBAY took against to the sellers, since it\'s accorded to the item listed price with a certain percentage of charges, therefore; sellers usually \"low-ball\" the items listed prices in order to LOWER the charges taken by eBAY, and raise the shipping charges therefore to gain a higher margin of profit. Correct me if I am wrong. :sarc

indeed that\'s what i hear too... if you think about it, it helps out with duties on our end as well tho.. ebay and other online merchants such as newegg, zappos, et all are few reasons to live in usa ;) so jealous of all the techhie deals you can get there but after shipping and broad daylight rape at the border it\'s just not worth it.. *sigh*

last two items i bought just recently were a cellphone case for my v635 and original oakley eyejackets. two separate purchases. shipping cost me 7USD and 8USD respectively. when i got the product (both via USPS) the price on the \'stamp\' was ~ 2USD or less... :sarc

but.. the oakleys came out about 30bux cheaper after all said and done (taxes/handing fee/shipping) than when i bought them 6+ years ago in Canada (yeah, they still cost a lot b/c they are rare - oakley discontinued them 5 yrs ago) .. same with teh leather case, i would never be able to buy it in Canada.. i guess that\'s what you have to go through to get what you want.. c\'est la vie :zzz

Well, u konw what.....the \"low-balled\" item doesn\'t really help us that much when determining the duties over the border, I know the package itself has a \"DECLARED\" value, but the customs can choose whether this value is reliable or accountable, if they don\'t believe in this declared value, they would apply duties according to their own value identification regulations. So.....even if u bid a piece of FIREBALL muffler over the eBAY for just $1 and it was stated on the package, the custom will still charge u duties amounted to tens of times of the price u paid!:D

true say .. but i guess my purchases are relatively small < 100 CAD, and the last 2 times the value was reasonable not to warrant opening the package and revaluating it.. but yah.. you can never be certain.. i think i missed the history lesson when NAFTA was discussed ;) - ok.. i wonder who\'ll provide me with a link to NAFTA info ;) lol.. bluntoogle? :p

When I organized the group buy for the door sills & side markers. The vendor marked the price as $20. The taxes & duties was only $5. But they charged $8 for handling or service charge. Talk about being raped. But it\'s ok. We actually spent like $200US.:p
