Just wondering, what\'s the process and procedure in selling your car?
from financial transactions, change of ownership (u got info on this Blunt?),
licence plates, e-testing, etc.
everything I need to know.

Thanks,
Ray

This is how I sold my 6:

- Listed the car for sale in Trader
- In the meantime, went and bought the UVIP (Used Vehicle Information Package), as well as had the car safety and e-test done.
- Got a letter from the bank indicating that the lien (car loan) had been paid in full
- Made copies of all relevent service records
- Allowed prospective buyers to come and see/drive the car
- Once an acceptable offer was made, I took a $500 cash deposit, we each signed a piece of paper indicating the sale amount of the car, the deposit amount, etc.
- Cleaned out the car, met on the pre-determined date, handed over the keys, took the certified funds for the balance, signed over the ownership portion of vehicle registration, took off my plates and kept the plate portion (plates went onto the 3), and used the last page of the UVIP as the \"bill of sale\".
- Made copies of EVERYTHING
- Done!

All in all, it took me about two weeks from the time I listed the car to the time I had the money in my account.

Edit: You thinking of selling your 3?

Alright, let\'s assume that u want to sell ur car PRIVATELY.

* Financial transactions - Cash is solid, no doubt about it, if it involves a fairly large amount of money, I\'ll prefer certified bankcheque (secured, personal cheques maybe too risky unless the person u selling to is someone u\'ve known by heart). For a lease take-over, it involves a lease transfer fee (for Mazda, I think it\'s somewhere around $350~$500, it\'s ur deal w/the other party for who wants to be responsible for it), and of coz, the other party has to pass the credit-check first in order to do the transfer. For a financed car loan, u just have to take the money and go into the bank then pay off what u\'re owing), and the other party will either pay u cash/cheque or setup his own car loan on the car u sold him (his bussiness, not urs).

* Licence plates - The old one on the car belongs to u, he\'ll get his own, when u sell him the car, take urs back, it\'s that simple, unless u have a specialized plate that he wanted to have it, then u can do a transfer of licence plate in MOT (Not Mazda of Toronto though, it\'s Ministry of Transportation!):p

* E-teseting - for a new car within 3 yrs from its first date of delivery, there\'s no need of e-testing. From that on, any car with an odd number yr of production (e.g. 2005) will need to do an e-testing on an even number of year (e.g. 2008), in every 2 yrs I remembered.

Correct me if I am wrong!

Lease take over charge from Mazda is $125. You must also be aware that you will still be a Co-Leasee
even after you transfer it. So if buddy trashes the car and gives it back...you are still on the hook.

Ownership... Same thing, You take his cash and sign it over. He owns it. BUT!@! You are still resposible for the vehicle until he registers it into his name.
i.e he buys it off you friday night, he\'s going to go get vehicle transfered on monday. He drives it around on the weekend to show of his new ride to his buddies and gets in an accident. YOUR SCREWED!

I thought licence plate is not transferable. I tried before to transfer my parent\'s licence plate to me when I transfer the car ownership from my parents to me, and MTO said I cannot transfer licence plate ownership. any opinions? :)

I believe he meant the personal ones. You pay big cash for them (to own them), so I guess if you want to sell it to someone (transfer) go ahead.
