I have this problem every time I want to take off fast or I decide that there is to much tread remaining on my tires and want to leave some rubber behind :D . When the tires start to spin, the spinning tire starts to hop :(. This is really anoying. Plus I\'m worried that this hop will end up breaking something.

Does this happen to all the Mazda3\'s or is it just mine?

Wheel hop is a problem with any front wheel drive car that doesn\'t have the traction to compensate for the power of the car. If had it happen in my 3, my Protege 5 and i even had it happen in my Escort GT.

Better tires seem to be the best defense.

I just can\'t. Every time I sit in the drivers seat. I hear that little voice in my head. I\'m sure you all know what I\'m talking about. It\'s saying \" Zoom - Zoom - Zoom \" :D . And of course I listen to it.LOL.

I have a sport gt automatic and am unable to spin the tires like this, is that normal?
Someone told me that you could spin your front tires off the mark even with an automatic transmissino, but I don\'t believe it.

That\'s why its called Jack rabbit starts...Your car launches and at times it hops LOL!!!

It also depends on weather......When its wet surface you will expect alot of wheel hop.

Expensive way to fix it...... Lower your car and add stage 3 of eibach kit bottom sway bars.......(guys correct me if im wrong)

Cheap way to fix it.. Just dont floor it ;)

stiffer springs will help a bit...thicker sway bars won\'t do anything....the most effective way of reducing wheel hop is to stiffen the engine mounts (it\'s basically the rocking of the engine that\'s causing the wheel hop).

with a stock car, when you experience wheel hop, back off the gas or else you can end up buying a new transmission.

I had the same problem befor (tire hopping while burnign some rubber), and figured it was as this is my first Front wheel drive car. I do wish it were rear wheel drive but I am ok with it now. I stoped doing it after last March my Driver\'s side CV Joint broke on my 2004 M3 due to the tire hopping and fast spining. I had to have my car towed into the dealer where they replaced the CV Joint. It should not break, but just in case, I wont do it again... leasson learned...

Go from 0 throttle to WOT as quick as you can and you should be able to get some spinning on dry pavement.

Did this on a manual GS during a test drive. Freaked me out for a sec but I figured it was probably the tires\' fault. Anyone know what tires would prevent this?
