Talk to whodilly aka Jon, the same thing happened to him a few days ago. Maybe you could get it fixed together and save a few bucks.

Mine cracked (it\'s a big one) due to a large rock back in June and I still haven\'t replaced it! I guess I have better things to do with $500!

Still, I probably have to get something done sooner rather than later.

you guys should move to florida, check it out:

Windshield Replacement - No Extra Cost to the Insured!

If you have Florida-based comprehensive, state law provides that your insurance company waive the deductible for windshield repair or replacement, which means no extra out-of-pocket expense for you. In Georgia, the deductible will apply on replacements, but many insurance companies will waive the deductible amount on windshield repairs.

call a mobile repair - some cover the deductible up to 250 bones - check the yellow pages.
I replaced the glass in my P5 - amazing job and was better than OEM from a flyer dropped on my car 2 years ago in a parking lot - the guy even shampooed my carpets for free.
If the glsss cracks - replace it - if it\'s just a chip - no worries - even crappy tire can fix that.
Now that Mazda has the rain sensor - it could get expensive to replace the glass

so tonight I\'m driving home.... I warm up the car.... makin sure glass was heated nicely before I started driving.... I get on the highway... bad mistake... (laugh)... chip... with a small crack about 2 inches long... went to about 12-14 inches... oh I\'m pissed... the thing is... where it was hit is right under my view on the drivers side..... I dunno whether they\'ll do it or not. It may be possible it obstructs my view!!!

If I were to get the windshield replaced... I think someone here said get the Mazda part and take it somewhere else. My question Joe ( I think it was you who advised that)... If the Mazda windshields are THAT WEAK why not get another one if avail?

Man... there goes christmas money... :P

But I will check the other places out... Perhaps actually drive to Richmond hill if that dude is really good... but I just wish I could call the dude... gotta make the phonecalls tomorrow :P I REALLY don\'t wanna replace the windshield!!! but this is friggin annoying me

Got mine fixed about a month ago. Cost me $300 bucks cause I had to get a new WINDSHIELD! I had to claim from insurance because it would have cost me $800 if I took it to Mazda. The crack got bigger after I went to the car wash hahaha. I think you should fix the crack before winter. You don\'t want the glass expanding and contracting and then cracking all over. Then it becomes a real safety thing.

Side note: Day before I got my windshield repaired... so stupid debris on the 404 cracked my bumper.
Est damage.. $300

Side note 2: Debris on steels. Some object flying in the air on a rainy day. Scratch paint on roof down to metal. Rust began. Had to repaint entire roof. Cost.. $375

Good Luck

Do people REALLY think these are weak windshields? LOL.... :sarc Think of the regulations and testing that must be done before these go into production. That being said, I have had many rocks thrown at the car. I had a freaking boulder slam the hood (leaving about a .5\" gash) and then smoke the windshield. No break. It has some divots etc too, but I dont think the Mazda3 has weak glass.

maybe everybody means the windshield is weaker than they expected..

the thing is, u all seem to be travelling on the highway at 110+ km/h and the rocks/debris flying at you is probably flying around at a fast pace also.. so, the rocks/debris will just smash into ur windshield when u drive into it.. I know it sux big time but even if you were driving a civic do you guys think it would stand up better?? maybe, maybe not.. having said that, I hope it never happens to me.. :)

well, instead of buying the mazda oem windshield has anybody thought about buying an aftermarket glass?? if so, can anybody give us ur opinion on it?? I posted the following in another thread..

try here.. $390 for an aftermarket rain sensor windshield installed.. it\'s at Krown in Mississauga..

The second week I had my car back in april of 2004 a huge rock got flung off a dump truck and cracked my windshield 3 ways, each crack about 5 inches long. Anyway they didnt have any aftermarket windshields yet and I had to wait for mazda to ship one overseas. Bottom, line it costed me $700 installed. If you do go aftermarket make sure it has the rain sensor (if you like that option that is).

PPG glass is OK - the blue tinted sunshade is a welcome addition if you have to get a replacement. I had it on my P5 and the fit and finish was up to OEM standard.
Nice that they have the rain sensor option:)

Thats funny... The second week I had mine.. The exact same thing happened. In may 2004... But I didn\'t fork out the cash...it\'s still cracked...

As a side note.. My GF asked me today if I noticed a crack in her winsheild Sunday aft. It seems sometime overnite or during the day, a small crack appeared on her windsheild. Dead center... right at the bottom, about 5 inches long. Going straight up.
Nothing hit her window... So this leads me to assume it just cracked by itself. Off to the dealer sometime this week to get them to replace it. (by the way it is a \'05 tribute)

edit: That would be *Get them to replace it for FREE under warrenty!!

My July 2005 Mazda 3 rain sensor windshield also cracked when the last snow storm had come (2 weeks ago). I took it to the dealer - Airport Mazda, after inspection, they said its a stone chip (it looked to me as a stone chip too), hence not under warranty. The crack that was small is now running across 3/4 way and has gone down so it cannot become any longer. The dealer said that the stone chip hit might have taken few days ago or maybe in summers, but it became apparent only when the extreme cold weather set in and the crack started expanding.
I would appreciate if anyone can guide me to a reasonable(cheap!!) place where I can get the replacement. Thanks. This forum really helps.

How about a chip? Should I repair it?

I got a chip from another Mazda 3 on the highway. :(

EXACTLY the same as mine...mine doesn\'t obstruct the view yet but yeah - lesson learned - don\'t defrost a chipped windshield.

Count me in for a potential group buy

Oooooooook...

So I went last week... got it replaced... And I had to lose the sensors unfortunately. At this moment... I\'m not sure I\'m satisfied with the work. They charged me $240 after taxes. He was gonna charge me $230 if I had paid cash. I think there is a small leak in the sealent though... so I\'m gonna hafta call him first. I hear wind noise on the highway now... and I\'m partially sad, though I never used my rain sensors... I used my light sensors a lot. And now they\'re gone... (sigh)... but it saved me $250... I\'ll let you know where the shop and the number WHEN I know the result of my next phone call about the sealent. I don\'t want to refer you guys if I am not satisfied with the service.

Have you tried looking into Standard Auto Glass? They offer a \"Titanium Gaurantee\" on their glass. Basically, they\'ll fix chips for free, as well as warrant against the regular manuf. defects and leakage. They quoted me #315+tx to replace the windshield for an \'02 Protege.

Disclaimer: I\'m just reciting what they told me. I haven\'t used them yet.

Saphress, aren\'t you concerned now that when it comes time to sell the car you will not have those features? I know they\'re not the greatest, but they are factory and some people may be put off that your car is no longer equipped with them.

Actually you don\'t get the sensors with the new windshield. The glass comes with the proper connections for the sensor to be installed.

damn. Hope that don\'t happen to me. I already have enough chips on my paint, if I get one on my windshield im gonna go buckwild. Everything so soft mon!

if that\'s the case, how come you can\'t just take the sensors from your old windshield and install them onto the new one??

The connections for the sensor are attached to the glass. I guess if there was some way of removing it from the old windshield then it would work.

Saphress
12-29-2005, 10:49 AM
actually the guy gave me back my sensors and my original rearview mirror. If I ever sell the car... as to which I doubt.... I just get it reinstalled.... with the mazda windshield. And hopefully by that time.... the demand will be greater where the windshield will go down in price.

yeah.... I have the same happened to me....

I drive 200+km a day for work purposes and definately the front of my car has taken lots of rocks and pebbles....even the surface of the headlight cover is not smooth and I can see many scratches on it.......
