I *think* this has been discussed before but I notice in the cold temps my driver side mirror looks all distored. Kinda like a fun house mirror.
Was there a TSB on this? Or has anyone had theirs replaced and the replacement was better than before?

Hope the rust proofing isn\'t that black waxy stuff? From my experience oil is better, but it is up to you. You are probably paying a premium having it done at the dealer. Does the dealer do it themselves or farm it out? Good luck with the mirror, will keep an eye on mine.

from what I\'ve read on this forum, mazda apparently gets somebody else to rust proof the cars for the fraction of the price you pay them.. mazda charges you so much and says it\'s a lifetime warranty but what they mean is that if the rust produces a hole then they will fix it up for you but if the rust does NOT produce a hole then mazda will not do anything..

when you bring it back for a check up they check to see how the rust proofing is.. if mazda thinks it needs to be reapplied then they\'ll do it.. if not, they of course they won\'t.. so, u might end up with a rust build-up somewhere and not even know about it..

when I talked to the mazda guy about the rust proofing, I brought it up with him and he confirmed that for me (about how mazda will only replace a part if the rust causing a hole in your car)..

For anybody with Rogers Cable just watched the Auto show that comes on every Wednesday at 7:00 to 8:00 and the subject today was about body care and maintenace. Rust proofing and body repair. After watching the program I am more convinced that the yearly oil application is the way to go. The wax stuff or tar will dry and crack and moisture will build underneath it. Also it will not creap into cracks etc. like oil does. Also with oil, if NEEDED they will remove the rear and front lights to get to behind them. Wax sprayers not sure if they will. Oil sprays on top of the gas tank where water collects and begins to rust where the wax I don\'t think they can get into such a tight spot and able to cover the whole area. I know as my GMC pick up was waxed sprayed 17 years ago (by the previous owner) the the top of the gas tank was not even touched but is now rusted and needs replacing.

It is \'dripless oil\' spray application. They charge 89.99$. I had it done last year but I went shopping while they did it so I dont know if they out source it or not.

Not the case everywhere...

Ours is done by us, on site...

And \'Mazda\' does not rust proof cars, the dealerships do.. :D :D

I guess every dealership is different.. I don\'t remember who posted it but somebody said that the dealership he works for oursources it.. it\'s buried somewhere in this forum.. I\'ll do a search later unless somebody can find it before I have a chance to look..

I read this earlier before going to work.... On my way to work, I noticed everything in the mirror seemed more narrow than they should be!!! I don\'t think I would have noticed it if you didn\'t mention it.

Is that what you\'re experiencing?

hmmm... I\'m going to the dealer on Wed. I\'ll mention it to them.

I\'ll keep an eye on the mirror after i put the defroster on. See if it expands back to normal after it warms up.

Oil treatment has been a proven way to minimize rust - farmers have been doing this for a long time. Try and get the dripless stuff - creeps into every crevice and should be done yearly.
There are many shops in the GTA who can perform this service - check your local yellow pages.:)

I have noticed the same thing with my driver side mirror! I thought I was on crack but no I guess I am not.
How does this happen? Is it covered under warranty? I only have 16583kms on my car.

Any ideas?

Well I mentioned it when I got my oil spray done at Mountain Mazda.
The car was inside a heated garage so when the service advisor called me over it went back to normal!
GRRRR.. he asked me to come by anytime on a cold day since he doesnt know what part to order. Is it the glass? Something behind it? We dont know...

I just noticed this same problem with my drivers side mirror today. Drivers side mirror (left side) as it comes to the right side of the mirror, there is a warp, then it makes everything look squashed. Mazda = #1

I just noticed the same thing with my driver\'s side mirror also.. I don\'t think I would have noticed if I didn\'t read this thread..

it only bothers me (gives me a headache) if I stare at the mirror and we all know u\'r not suppose to do that while u\'r driving.. since I only glance at my mirror it doesn\'t really bother me.. but I\'ll talk to Mazda next time I go in for something..

+1. I\'d just discovered the same thing today......It only happened to the driver side mirror, I turned on the heated mirror......and then it improved a bit......:(
