I had the chance to park my car in the garage for the winter months. I gave driving the Grand am a try for about a week and I couldn't take it. I enjoy driving too much to be put in such a boring vehicle. Not saying that I drive like a maniac but, automatic huge with a floaty suspension ugh...

Plus I bought winter tires for the MS3 last year so I figured I might as well get some use out of them(Some Blizzak WS60s).

205/45r17 is tiny for an MS3...wasted gas in higher rpm on the highway, etc. I use 215/50r17. It's the closest to stock, only 0.6% smaller circumference. The 205/45r17's are 5.3% smaller circumference than stock...so you lose 5.3% mileage wherever you drive, plus your kms add up 5.3% faster on the odometer, and anything with a circumference difference of more than +/- 3% is capable is messing with your ABS censers.

It's not a simple 1:1 calculation. I think more important is the ride quality and handling characteristics in the winter. Generally, slightly higher (or same profile) and thinner tires to dig down through the slippery stuff to get traction...

There is no way the minimal weight savings by 205/45 rather than 215/50 can even come close to counteracting the gas wasted by 4.7% higher RPM (compared to my winter wheels). And like I said, also means every 1000kms on the car 53 of those kms wasn't actually driven (compared to stock wheels), and it can still mess with the ABS censers.

I may get a pic up soon if we head out to the country this wknd...but I'm glad to share that I've finally sourced a nice set of minty snowflakes with 215/50/17 Nitto Winter SN2 (the is a brand new tire from Nitto in Canada for 2008, so I'm guinea-pigging it). I'm kinda excited cuz the car geek in me has always wanted snowflake rims for winter...hehe...

Thinking about colouring the snowflakes...and no, I'm not painting/powdercoating it yellow...hehe...maybe gunmetal...

I got the bra from a guy in Ottawa that was selling his Mazdaspeed 3. So, I got it used for $100. It was used for only one season, and it looked just like new. It is really easy to put on and to remove.
I beleveive it is the same part number as the bra for the regular 3. Anyway, here is the part information:

Same in Ottawa, we gave the part # to our local dealer and he couldn't find it in the system. He contacted Mazda Canada and they said it doesn't exist :loco Maybe Flip can help us out

This is just my experience, from friends.

Make sure during every snowfall, or wash, to ensure that the cover covering the hood is free from salt and snow.... Best place for crap / salt particles to rest in and eventually ruin the paint. Not only because its hidden but some small pebbles inside could scratch the paint as well.


But other than that nice cover!!!!

LOL yeah, the front end has a HUGE gap. Funny thing when my friends saw it they were like dude you can fit a baby in there. Lol its quite alot of room lol.

The Mazda3 was my parents, but amidst these economic times, I have offered to pay for the Ralliart. I put the down payment and am currently paying the monthly payments. But its in my parents name cause I know theres no way i can get that insured or get the loan for it. So I'll pay as much as I can and when I cant i'll leave it to my parents - right now i'd rather they save up cause I'm not good at that. So you can call it mine :) but i let my mom drive it once in a while :chuckle

I was pretty lucky and a friend in our refinishing shop offered to prime and paint them for me.

Cost me a case of beer, pretty good deal IMO:)

I just cleaned them up, filled in and sanded out some curb rash that was on them.

Yours would look good black on your red speed.

Agincourt was offering to have it painted off site since they don't work on aluminum. The costs to paid was too high when I got the quote and took it to Rich at Street Performance. Did a great job with the paint match!
