How is the weather over there in the east? For Calgary, we unfortunately have slush and snow everywhere already, it does kinda suck.

Really? Ouch. It just got colder here in Toronto. 6ºC and overcast for the last few days. I'm holding out hope that the snow doesn't show itself until late November because I still need to save and buy winter tires.

All materials from Canadian Tire (duplicolor wheel paint stuffs). Sand (300grit), prime, sand (800grit), paint, paint, paint, sand (2000grit), paint or clearcoat. Maybe another pass with 2000grit and clearcoat again.

I've seen a lot of cars at work on winters....thought to myself "oh they are getting a head start"

....then I realized the owners were just douches with leased 3 series BMW's that spent money on 19" winter tires last year, and didn't have any money for summer tires this year and just kept the winters on!

Wonder how many brush scrapes one could save by dipping your whole vehicle for the winter.

Still another month before I am switching.

Didn't really consider this until now but is there a way to avoid this? Would rough bristles brushing off your car leave marks similiar to car wash swirls?

yes, it can scratch your paint.

i usually brush the snow but leave a little bit on the car so the brush doesn't hit the paint (obviously don't leave much on to blow onto the car behind, and clean the windows)

crappy tire has a soft bristle brush that works okay....it's black handle with blue bristles

Just carry a hair dryer or heat gun in your car and plug it into a power inverter - and melt the snow away

I needed to repaint mine because they were chipped so bad. Finally i had a break - day off work, 7C, very little wind and sunny. I got 3 wheels done perfectly with gloss black tremclad.

On the last wheel, there was a huge gust of wind and my cue cards blew onto the fresh paint and ruined the paint job on the last wheel. Fack. Then it started to snow like crazy....???????

I waited 2 hrs and sanded it and resprayed... looks better, but not perfect. Oh well, going on vacation for a week and a bit so i'm not going to get a chance to fix it before it gets too cold. Guess they're only winter wheels...

yep, thats where she's staying for the next few months. Those wheel things are great, jack it up and drop it on them makes it really easy to spin the car around and or slide it different parts of the garage. Filled up with gas and stabil, battery disconnected and i miss it already... that was a short week

im too cheap. i dont feel like paying $1200 for snow tires. 4wd, traction off when i want to have some fun.

remember, we dont use salt out here. the snow on the roads never really melts away.

I have the same setup lol! I actually was given winter tires from my uncle (that fit my stock rims), and when in 4x4 with them on I can pass almost anything :D

This is a very accurate statement. A lot of people only think about acceleration in winter but nobody thinks of being able to stop a 6000lb truck on snow / ice.

i do get a good laugh when on the hwy you know which truck or suv doesnt have snows.. there the ones i usually pass with mine on and :chuckle.. so much for the 4x4 :P but your right you still need to be safe leave enough room to stop or enough space in front to speed up if the person behind you cant stop. corners and such. but winter tires perform so much better then any all season when its cold snow or not.

Or, you just drive in 4wd when you have bald rear tires, and you get really really good at drifting in the snow, either way, I am still alive after running my old 4Runner with bald tires, and 4wd in the winter :)

Don't track it so thats not an issue. Other GC owners that i know use the car as a DD don't have that issue with their 2010's. just dirty

I went one size smaller, 275/55, and they were $250 each.
So really, not too too bad.

thanks guys! theyre BC Coils. ive installed everything on my car, so taking it off isnt a problem - i just prefer not to. those extensions get in the way of the hoist so i have to always carry wood-planks and use rubber ramps at my work to get it to clear the extensions. can get annoying at times :bang

why not? once you're used to driving low it doesn't really matter what conditions are, as long as you've got snows you're golden

As other said before once you've been lowered for a while its becomes second nature on how to drive the car without much issue. Winter driving is no different. With winters and they way they are here nowadays just a matter of throwing on snows and continuing as you usually would. We don't get a whole lot here so it's mainly just a rougher and louder with the snows on. Again it's expected when you lower the car

Low in snow isn't that big of a deal, unless of course you're going through deep snow (snow plow mode), and with these odd mild winters, that usually doesn't happen. And if it ever does, you just drive accordingly.
