View Full Version : So how long since youve washed your car?

Yeah, so both of our 3\'s look like crap right now.......literally. They no longer resemble the nice pure white that they once were, but instead are a nasty brown on the bottom and off white on the top sort of colour. Needless to say I haven\'t washed either of our 3\'s in about five weeks now. There just doesn\'t seem to be a point. Sure it\'s sunny right now, but there\'s more flurries in the forecast which means it\'ll just get all gross again.
Anyone else in the same boat?

I had the car detailed a week ago to remove all the interior salt stains. As for the exterior I just drive it in the shop and give the car a good power wash. All that brine they put in with the salt leaves nasty marks on the side of the car.

I hate it when you wash the car, drive it for 10 minutes and it\'s dirty again. :sarc But I guess getting the salt off the car is a good reason to give it a quick wash every week! :D

That is true. For me maybe I take the car out for a wash whenever there is a snow fall day coming so i can get the old salt out first. If not the old stuff stays there and the new one comes then It\'ll take forever to clean.
Winter is not an excuse for a dirty car!

Somehow I knew you were going to chime in with a comment like that! I\'m surprised you had time to type that between all your car cleaning :p

I wash it every week no matter what the weather is like.
How do the dealerships\' service bay decide whether to wash a car after servicing? Out of the 5 or 6 times my car has been to dealer service (MoT as well as Avante), only twice has it ever been washed. Not complaining ... just curious what factors affect the decision to wash or not wash?

let the salt build up thick enough to act as a protective layer... protect the paint.
my last car wash, sometime in october.

i did this with the leased maxima for 3 years, granted the majority of the washes were through a sunoco touchless.
the maxima wasn\'t rustproofed and it was returned with not a spot of rust on the body.

I give the 3 a good powerwash after work and on weekends run it through a touchless wash.

Ugh.. i haven\'t been in so long... maybe since september... but yeah... i can\'t do the touchless, or even soft cloth washes anymore... my car is too low to straddle the rail :(

there are rail-less ones now. most of the new sunoco and esso touchless washes don\'t have rails.

Well, my wife finally had it with her dirty 3 and had me take it for a wash. It did get just as dirty the next day, which I thought was pretty funny :D
My car is now going on about eight weeks since it\'s last wash.

This is the part of Canadian winters that really piss me off. I can just barely tolerate the snow and then you have the grey wet days where slush and spray make all the cars on the road look like they\'ve been off-roading. Seriously, this is a REDNECK\'S wet dream if you ask me.
I tend to be fanatical about clean cars and during the winter I like to wash them at least once every two weeks. The interval during the last two weeks has increased due to the wet weather outside. I\'m most likely going to stick to that when my 3 comes in.

I only wash the car maybe once a month, or when it gets so dirty that I have to wash it.
Recently, I had a layer of mud built up around the side, left it there for a week until I couldn\'t stand it anymore and went to the coin wash yesterday.

i find that the salt builds up between components of the body
i like to wash it off as much as possible
but truth be told
in the winter i\'m the same as u iconicrocket
once a month + when it is so bad i can\'t stand it . . .
Kevin@nextmod

Same here. I was the car whenever i can\'t stand it anymore. Even on rainy days i see my car really muddy and looks like its been offroading i go ahead and give it a quick spray. I just don\'t want another layer to go on top of that.

The last time I washed my car was in on Christmas eve... I do, however, rinse the car off every weekend I drive it.
