View Full Version : Mazda 3 Sport as a family car

So, I installed my nice new Peg Perego car seat into my Mazda last night. Did the whole seat belt safety stuff, rear facing and what have you.

Got into the car this morning and had to re-adjust my seat as I always do when the missus has driven the car. What do I find, my seat no longer goes back to a comfortable position for me.

I decided to put the car seat in the middle of the rear seats, thinking I would get more room that way, made v.little difference....:(

So now I have a choice to make, Mazda 3 or baby.....:p Seriousley though, anyone else experience problems like this, and if so what remedies did you come up with. I have since tried a couple of other baby seats and its the same deal, what gives.....

I put the infant base and seat behind the passenger side seat. Just in case I need to look over at my baby. Unless you\'re very tall then I don\'t see why there should be a problem.

Yeah, why wouldn\'t you put it onto the passenger side? Also, I\'m a total noob when it comes to babies and car safety, but I thought they could be facing forward in the rear of the car?

If not, time to buy a Mazda5! All the fun of the 3 with the functionality a young family needs.

Very useful info found here.

I\'m not \"very\" tall, 6\'2 is tall enough though, the missus is also fairly tall (for a girl) :p

I was thinking the same thing.. why can\'t you just install the car seat on the passenger side??

The seat will take up more room if put behind the passenger seat. That solution is fine if there is only the driver in the car, if the passenger side is occupied there is very little leg room.

With the seat placed in the centre the seats both need to be moved up, but not a much as the single passenger if the seat is placed solely on that side.

Does that make sense, it\'s kinda difficult to explain. :p :sarc

It makes perfect sense.

There\'s very little room even in the Mazda6 when the seat is rear-facing. Not a lot you can do it you have to create the certain angle for the baby.

You either need to go on a diet (and trust me, you do from the last time I saw you you lardo) so you can move your driver\'s seat forward or put the seat in the passenger side rear and have your passenger bear the uncomfortableness of the layout.

but, I\'d rather have my passenger a little uncomfortable than the driver.. until your baby gets bigger and you can turn the baby seat facing forward and have more room I think you should consider that.. unless you actually go with the Mazda 5 or, dare I say it, accord.. :hoho

I don\'t think Dr. Ass-gasm is funny or Sarcastic.
Just a waste of space, memory and time on this forum.

a lot of hostility here. Not sure if I\'m truly welcome here or you\'re just trying to get me worked up. maybe it\'s just a select few that want to speak for the rest. Let me clear the air here, I\'m not here to make e-friends or get attention or to be liked/disliked by anyone.

If you don\'t have anything better to do than to cry about the new guys sig, you should check yourself into a hospital and find out if that parasite eating your brain has starved to death. arguing and bickering on the internet won\'t solve anything. for the guys that really welcome\'d me.. thanks!

whoops.. my bad.. sorry.. sorry.. sorry.. :) I\'m out.. no more posting for me here unless I have more to add about the car seat..

oh, I do have something.. the back seat has probably the same amount of leg room as the front passenger side with the seat moved forward a bit.. at least in my head it does.. hopefully you can work something out and still keep your 3..

Actually, now that I think about it, you\'re still in using the crade snap-in carrying thing aren\'t you? I was talking about the true 3-in-1 seats:

Really curious to see how this will fit a Mazda3.

Just an update....

The missus took the car to the local police station and got them to fit the seat properly.

Turns out its illegal to have the seat in the middle, and as such we had to get it moved to the passenger side. Also, there has to be a 1-2 inch gap between the back of the seat and the the passenger front seat.

After all this we now have a total (yes, I measured it) of 4 inches of leg room between the front of the passenger seat and the glove box, which would be fine if either myself or the missus were Umpalumpahs....:p :sarc

So, if we ever drive with more than adult in the car, they have to go into the back seat behind the driver.

I don\'t know if this is normal for a car our size, any thoughts?

Neighbor of mine has a VW Golf. With the baby seat in the back the legroom in the front looks compromised as well.

It\'s quite normal for cars of this size (Civic, Corolla, etc.)

Maybe you and Flipspeed can get together for a Mazda5 group buy... :p

Wonder what that 1\" gap requirement is supposed to do? Isolate the front pax seat movement from the baby seat?

When i was looking for a new vechile i had 2 kids at the time. The wife liked the Mazda 5, so we went to Mazda to go and look and probably buy (this is when it first came out). We wanted the perl white, but the saleman said it would take about 2 months for that color...WTF. So we said forget it. We went back 3 weeks later and the sale guy is gone to markham honda.
So we ended up buying the 3. We have two car seats in the back of our 3 and there is no room in the back for anything else.

But now i\'m up Sh!t\'s creek becuase we have a third one on the way. Looks like i\'ll be coming for a 5 come Summer.

TheProfessor

Congrats on the third kid! I still really like the MZ5, especially when it has the body kit and bigger rims......looks so nice.

Loading up the 3 come May for my Disney World trip to Orlando. So I got 2 Mazda duffel bags and one hockey back to load into the hatch. Plus the roof box will be filled with goodies on our trip back to Toronto.

So yes the 3 Sport hatch is a family car.

interesting.. of course i never read this thread until now... Hahaha
I was thinking a car seat would not fit properly in the 3....with 2 adults in the car.

Is it illegal?? to mount in the middle? The instructions that come with the seats say to mount it that way...

SourcE
04-04-2006, 01:22 PM
Mr Policeman told us it was illegal, he also said that those level-rolling ball things on almost every car seat are bullshit and should NOT be used. There is a correct angle to use, not sure off the top of my head, and after PC Plod fitted our seat the roller ball was deeply in the red.

There should be at least 1\" gap between the back of the front seat and the car seat, the car seat carry handle should ALWAYS be fully down, and the seat base needs to be soooooo damn tight its unreal. I have to put my knee on the base and exert my full weight and then some in order to get the strap tight enough.

My reco\'s, Go see your local Constable and get him to do it.....knowing what I know now anyways....

I wasn\'t laughing, I was being completely honest. I have three nehpews and a niece so I know how tough it has been for my siblings raising kids and all have agreed that life was much easier without kids, though they wouldn\'t trade what they have now for anything.
