View Full Version : FLIPSPEED Q & A
HRmmm I was reading on the board again and just as I thougth that MOT was getting better I decided to give MOT one more try for my 24k service.. but to my suprise little to nothing had changed... (lol all the bad threads are behind page 1 .. I should browse back a lil further next time haha)
you all remember my initial thread here reguarding the bad service I had recieved at MOT ( http://torontomazda3.com/forum/read.php?TID=2229 ) well the story ends with me getting a free service and everything \"fixed\" up.
1. ignition faults.. they CLAIMED changed the fuel pump 3 times.. (seriously either the techs are noobs or someones lying)
2. after everythign had been finally fixed the back seats of my car were not bolted back down!!! (seriosuly.. lazy techs...)
3. i brought the car in numerous times.. and to date its taken them almost over 3 months to get the radio part in stock... lol
well everything from that thread \"WAS\" solved initially and after reading the few praises to the MOT thread I decided to either bring it to Avante or MOT .. (little did I know the front page praises were to the sales staff lol)
I called Avante and asked about the 24k service they were really nice and helpful, they told me everythign I needed to know ie: AIR FILTERS WOULD BE CHANGED. quoted price was: 169.95(well its 16x something + taxes) and they told me because they had to use extra oil / etc it would come to 180+Tax maximum. So I called MOT and they quoted me 169.95(16x cant rem) + Tax I asked if there was anything else ? they said no so I decided to bring it back to MOT... I thought I wouldnt have to go through the hasstle of going down myself and talking to joe etc and I was not available that day so my mother brought the car in for servicing.
To my suprise there is a new service worker named \"Stanley\" (SPYDER01 should remember this name as well lol) whos voice sounded supprisingly like the service \"scammer\" at Markham Mazda .. my initial thread was when I had warranty work done on my M3 the front grill had been cracked due to weather and after mechanics verified it was under warranty and I already booked an appointment to change the grill (which was already ordered) and everythign was done. The wheasel Stanley came up to me demanding that I pay Markham Mazda $29x+Taxes .. well I flipped... the story is here ( http://torontomazda3.com/forum/read.php?TID=1717 ) scroll a bit down.
Well when we first brought it in my mother called me and told me we would be charged more then 169 I told her to give me the phone to talk to the person and it was \"Stanley\" he claimed that Vincent the person who I usualy deal with at MOT quoted me wrong and that the price for 16x was for a 2.0L M3 Hatch.. but even the person at Avante told me that 16X is the set price by mazda rest is added on..
Well he preteneded to be nice and said that he would still do the 16x cause his \"collegue\" quoted it wrong and the actual price is 17x and he will do 17x instead, because of time I decided not to aruge with him and leave it at that. Later on in the day he does not call me but calls my mother and tells her because they need to change the AIR FILTER it would cost an extra $20 .. so now its 17x+20=19x .... my mom who knew nothing said yes because its just 20 bucks.. (I contacted MOT/MarkhamMazda/Avante all 3 places claim that Air Filter replacing is covered within the 24k service and I do not need to pay extra for it) Ok so now its time to pickup the car, the bill shows that we were charged $39 for the AIRFILTER! WTF .. seriously and after my mom questions him ohh he made an error .. and I would be credited back the difference the next time I come in to service...
so what is this ??? MOT you dont have enuff service work jobs you have to force your customers into coming back now?? you have to hire shady workers like Stanley from Markham Mazda?? (or are you the same company!?)
seriously if thats how you guys at MOT would like to do business I am no longer going to take my car in for service work or anything else im bringing it to Avante no matter how much it is quoted at least I know that im not being jerked around. This is one last customer that you guys at MOT will have to jerk around! I am aware that it is only $10 ... but ok ..
AVANTE = 180 + TAX = 207
MOT = 175 + 39 + TAX = 246.1
wtf its almost a $40 difference! This is totally unacceptable at all .. feel free to correct me if im wrong.. but this is not against \"Flipspeed\" who was great and helped me resolve my previous issues at MOT same as the parts manager \"JOE\" its just that there are way to many complications from MOT that I do not wish to deal with anymore.
so all of you who goto MOT keep an eye on your prices .. and always check your car after it is serviced.

My wife and I have servied our four Mazda\'s at MofT for the past five years now (including when they were Avante) and have always had great service. I will admit I was not totally happy with the sales team there, but from a service and parts standpoint they have been fantastic.

Oh snap!...Mazda of Toronto hired stanley? i thought he went to some honda dealer. There MUST be a reason why that guy is changing dealerships all the time...Anyway, the 24k service was done so try not to get mad...in the future, you can try out other dealerships until you get to one that you feel has acceptable service

yeah man .. he jumped ship there he must have gone their recently cuz I never saw him on my 16k servicing.. there prolly is a reason, either that or MM/that honda dealership and MOT is same owner.. but I kinda doubt that. Well their service is acceptable (MOT) but the thing is I hate how in the end they always screw me lol (time and time after again).. but for sure next time im headin over to Avante so many praises from that place :)

I was in MoT on Saturday getting my 48k service done. All seemed well and the service was fine.
It would have been excellant if:
a). They had not run out of cookies :(
b). Joe had given me a discount.... :p
That said, the 2 hr\'s required to do all the stuff allowed me to play NFL 2006 on the Xbox 360 at EB Games in the mall opposite for at least 40 minutes......much to the annoyance of the store :p :D

Sorry to hear about all the bad experiences you guys have had. At Mazda of Toronto we\'re trying our best to look after all your automotive needs. As for Stanley, give the guy a chance, he came from a dealership where a lot of people have complained about customer service. He\'s in a whole new environment where everyone works together.
Oh and akz we did put in 3 pumps and finally fixed the no start problem.
If anybody has any questions or concerns don\'t hesitate to email me at joe.montano@mazdaoftoronto.com or call 416-642-1333 and ask for Joe(me-assistant parts manager) or Dave(ThePartsStore-parts manager).

Tomorrow (Wednesday), I\'m going there for my first Service / Oil change. I have my trip computer to be fixed too. Also rattle in my dash. Well, As I had a great purchase experience in MoT (thx to Al Sarvar), I hope I have a good experience in service too. :) I\'ll keep you updated in this thread.
Joe, Hope to see you tomorrow.
I should add that my perspective on MoT is in no relation to how I perceive FLIPSPEED. Thumbs up always for FLIPSPEED!

Update: I went to MoT for my first Service. Guess what? Stanley welcomed me and helped me. He was friendly and helpful. He explained me everything. Service charge was $53.40 + Tax (61.42 after tax). They also fixed my Trip Computer. Everything took 50 minutes and I was on my way to work after that.
The only thing is that they didn\'t wash my car ;) (J/K). I was in rush, so I didn\'t expect to have a car wash.
I had a pretty good experience there. Even sales people were helpful and explained me how Mazda has fixed Mazda5 problem.
Thx Stanley.
By the way, I refilled gas tank and now Trip Computer reports 591 KM :D I hope it\'s right :D coooolllll

EDIT: I just didn\'t have a chance to meet with Joe. My appology to you Joe. I\'ll promise to come and see you next time.

Was this for the 8000km service?
Doesn\'t Mazda Canada have nationwide pricing set at $34.95 for all models?

Just to clear the air on the nationwide price for the 8K. It does not include the tire rotation. Let\'s say you have your snows on and don\'t want to rotate them.

Gotta give MofT due credit again.....went in for my 3\'s first 8K service on Friday, and while I usually deal with Vincent at the service counter he was tied up so I dealt with Stanley. I was a bit nervous since there seems to be some history with him at MM, but I ended up having nothing to worry about. When I picked up my car I asked to see/hear if they had fixed the seatbelt squeak, and he said the techs could not find/hear any problem. He saw that I was a bit baffled by this since I can hear it all the time, so he suggested that a tech accompany me out to the car, and sure enough, the thing wasn\'t squeaking anymore. I guess maybe they lubricated it even though they couldn\'t hear it cause it\'s perfectly quiet/normal now.
My only \'issue\', if you can call it that, was that they did not call me to tell me my car was ready (I was out running errands and specifically asked that they call my cell). Perhaps the car had just finished when I called to inquire, who knows.
Another good service for us at MofT.

Took my car into MoT today for them to look at a few issues I\'ve been having with my brakes squeaking in the cold (80% to 90% of 03, 04 and 05 model owners have this problem). I had talked to Stanley on the phone earlier and he told me to come in and the car would be looked after.
Walked in today, Vincent was there to greet me (I guess Stanley is off today). I told him what the car was in for and etc. He starts by saying that I should have left the car with them last night since I reported these problems on a cold start. I\'m getting a negative vibe here already as he is suggesting that squeaking brakes in the cold isn\'t really a problem and that I needed to leave the car there for them to prove it. Excuse me if I\'m wrong, but squeaking brake pads is one of the most COMMON problems on the 3. I said fine, but no one called me to even suggest I leave it over night. He then goes to say how he \"forgot\" to call me last night but he didn\'t look too sorry about it. Went on about how Saturday isn\'t a good day for servicing and blah blah. At this point I can tell I am not very welcomed here. Next he asked me if I had done the 16K, 24K service at MoT. I said no, I didn\'t have those done because I felt I didn\'t need a lube job service.
He then changes his tone completely and says he won\'t even bother looking at my car for my brake issues because I didn\'t have those services done at MoT and that any problems they found anyways wouldn\'t be covered under warranty. At this point I\'m getting a little pissed, but I kept my cool and I said that there is a TSB for the Front & Rear brake squeaking in the cold. My VIN falls in the range for servicing and I have defective brakes that need servicing. He then goes on a lecture about how my car is a 2004 model and its 2006 now, and implied how I could have worn out the brakes by now and just wanted a free replacement. I told him that I only have 27,000km on the car in 1.5 years. I\'ve also had this problem since day one but since the TSB came out in 2005, what am I supposed to do in 2004? Bring it in anyways and have them do nothing? The TSB came out in late 2005 and I\'m bringing it in early 2006 with a more than reasonable amount of kms on my car.
He doesn\'t agree with me and starts talking a little louder so that all the people waiting at the service area can hear our conversation. He talks about how I am asking for unreasonable service, implying I only bring in my car for warranty work there (this is stupid because the only thing I\'ve felt that needed to be done right now, is oil changes). He made it sound like if I was out to rip off the dealership. At this point, a lot of people waiting for their cars have heard our conversation and he\'s painted this picture of me already. I still keep my cool and explained to him that this problem is a common one and even if I had done the lube job services, what does that have to do with my brakes squeaking from Day #1 since I got my car. The brake pads are defective and certain services isn\'t going to change that.
He didn\'t listen to me. Rang up Joe (I told him I was talking to Joe earlier) and basically makes me look bad by saying this guy doesn\'t do any service here, he is only here for warranty, he is asking for too much and etc. Right in front of my face...while everyone around me probably thinks I am a cheap bastard here with paper thin brake pads and asking for a replacement. :sarc
I just want to clarify that this has nothing to do with Joe. Joe is a class act and he even tried to help me out by talking to Vincent, but Vincent would have none of it. I give mad props to Joe and I would give my parts & accessories business to MoT anyday just because Joe works there.
So at this point, Vincent\'s tone isn\'t the nicest and he said that he would take a look at my car anyway. I said okay. I wait there for about 1 hour. I see my car being taken in by the service techs and back out in about 10 min. I also noticed he was going back and forth with my car to test the brakes. AHHH...I said the brakes squeak when its a COLD start...I had driven the car there already...they don\'t squeal after a 15 min drive. Its like these guys don\'t believe that I have sqeaking brakes. I knew at that point my entire visit to MoT was waste of time and also to get cussed out by Vincent by implying I was a cheapo.
At this poit, I was really pissed. My mood got better when I went down and talked to Joe. I thanked him for trying and standing up for me. Joe is a stand up guy, if only the service techs learned a little from Joe and how to handle customer service, MoT would be a lot better place.
Vincent concludes everything by saying if you do the 24K service with us, we will give you a free upgraded rear pad replacement. I find this really funny...because at this point they don\'t know if my pads are paper thin and it sounds like they are trying to make a deal with me. Do this service and we\'ll throw in the rear brake pads. LoL. I said I\'d think about it and left.
Now I\'m back home and I feel like a criminal...well not exactly but you catch my drift. I go into MoT asking them for servicing that a specific TSB that my VIN falls under but instead of just getting rejected, I get insulted as well.
If it wasn\'t for out of respect for Joe, I would have worded this story differently, but those of you who are smart enough know what I went through today.
I had to post my experience because I feel insulted as a Mazda owner today. I don\'t understand how I bought a $30,000 car but I am a cheap arse for asking less than $100 worth of warranty work that the TSB clearly states I am entitled to.
Sorry MoT, I had no idea that it would turn out like this today. But today, you really insulted me, wasted my time and made me look stupid.

Thats not an uncommon experience with Mazda dealers.
Great when they sell you the car...F*** You when it breaks.
I guess you should call Mazda Canada and complain that MoT Refused to do a TSB.
Is that legal? Do TSB have anything to do with transport Canada? If so they shouldn\'t be allowed to refuse.
And what does it matter to them anyway...the parts and labour are paid by Mazda canada anyway, it\'s not like they are giving you free labour and parts...almost all dealership make more money doing warrenty work then straight jobs.

Red,
I went to ajax Mazda. My breaks started that at about 35K KMs. I went in with 48,000 and I just dropped word that they squeeled in the cold. She mentioned the TSB, and said that they could do the break pads for sure, but would measure the rotors. She came back and said that the rotors were ok, and JUST inside the Mazda tolerances for the TSB to be performed. So I got all new front pads and rotors, and the rears are on order, but she marked on my forum that they will be covered.
Although they were a little slower than the estimate, everyone was friendly, and I got free breaks out of it all. :)
I have no idea why dealerships fight on TSBs... I mean dont they bill back to Mazda? easy money!

Did you do your 24km service? That is what Mazda requires the customer to do in order to cover any brake related problems. Mainly because at the 24km service is when the brake inspection is done.
Sorry about your experience Rob. There only so much a parts guy can do.:( In Rob\'s case he wasn\'t informed properly by the advisor to have the 24km service done.
So for all those who don\'t think it\'s neccesary to do the major services please do them. It will save you and the dealer grief.

General question.....
On my last visit to MoT, I was informed that I needed my brake-lines cleaning.
Not sure if this was a \"must-do\" or an attempt to get some coin out of me. The car was in for a 40,000km-ish service, and I wondered if it was not covered by this?
Not pointing any fingers or anything, just wondering.....:)

I\'m not 100% sure it was only the brake lines that needed cleaning, something about the rear brakes and cleaning cause they were dusty/dirty....full of grime etc and as such spongy.
Yes, there was a price and it was around $250....! Hence I said NO, and replied that I was upgrading my pads soon (Greenstuff) and would do it all then.

Hey James your glovebox and sensor are in stock. I think Vincent called this morning to let you know the parts arrived.

A cover up would be to delete this whole thread.

What a deal....
If this is like insurance when you pay a $100 premium and you get coverage I don\'t mind paying it. However, this\'s not a sure thing. I did my 24 K service and paid $177 + taxes premium. However, when my rotors grooved at 33K and asked for warranty under a U.S. TSB, both the dealer, Markham Mazda and Mazda Canada refused to help. So I now doubt should we pay this premium.
Please see my first post for details:

I am still making the claim with Mazda Canada.
