So I\'m driving to meet up with some friends for coffee last night in my 2005 mazda 3. When I came to a redlight I stopped completly and the car started to drop revs and boom the check engine light comes on. Car still runs all the way to the coffee shop. I get there and turn the car off. Try to turn it back on, and the car starts, then dies. I got a friend of mine to give me a boost, car started fine, check engine light still on but I still made it all the way home to my place. Turn the car off. Try to start it back up...again same thing. Starts then dies. Could it be the MAFS? I\'m also thinking maybe the alternator? Last oil change was done 3000k ago and was still ok on the dipstick, and car runs on 91 octane gas. Anyone know what the hell is going on?

put in regular and see if the same happens.. this car is designed to run on regular.. anything more and you\'re wasting $ and potentially causing the problems you stated.. when you get a full tank of regular, disconnect the battery (-ve) it\'ll reset the CEL and make the ECU relearn the fuel maps..hopefully that fixes things.. if not, get the CEL checked out at a shop..

Mazda3 recommended octane (http://torontomazda3.com/forum/read.php?TID=3218)

I\'m sure majic meant to include this link..

I hope that is the only thing causing the problem, honeslty it sounds like there is more going on, could be water in the gas as well.. was the tank full?

can\'t tell from this pic

but was the wire loom unclipped from the battery box after the AEM CAI install?

if not, then there\'s a high possibility that a MAF wire has seperated/cracked and the ECU is getting a wrong reading.

your best bet would be to get the CEL code read to see exactly what tripped the CEL.

if you\'re thinking alternator, check the voltage on the battery when off (should read around 12.x V) and when on (should read 14.x V)

Yeah I just filled the tank yesterday...drove the car all day with no issues...then boom.

Might want to change the title of this thread from \'stupid mazda\' to \'stupid AEM intake\' ;)
