My car always stands outside in the cold infront of the garage so i started my car this afternoon roughly 2pm. I let it idle for about 2-3 minutes to give it some warm up time pulled out of my drive way the brakes clutch gaspedal all working fine. Started driving and accelarating gradually. I started hitting the brakes and pushing in the clutch. The brake pedal felt like a rock it didnt want to let me press it in i pushed the clutch to the floor and my rpms shot up to over redline quickly i released the clutch stepped on the brakes and i got a real bad smell of burning rubber. Then turned off the ignition and the car rolled to a stop. Restarted the car and everything was fine. What happened? Is this a problem with the car? Could the brakes have seized over night maybe? or frozen?

That\'s scary. I would take it in for a checkup right away. Brake failure at the wrong time can be disasterous.

Sounds like a belt..

If your engine reved high. And cold engine (yes, cold even after 2 minutes) The belt is cold (Hard rubber) it would slip on the pulleys. That was your smell.......

As for your brakes... hmmm I\'ve had sticky brakes in the A.M / Stiff clutch too. Did you wash your car?

I will have the car checked tomorrow but nothing happened today. I also have some other issues like the fuel gauge reading telling me that 6 liters is a quarter tank long starting periods in the summer and in winter. For all these problems mazda has neglected to help me but tomorrow i will speak to the service manager and see what he has to say about it.

hmm, never heard of this happening.

at first i thought maybe you stalled the car and it shut off, hence, the reason the brake becomes hard as a rock after the second pump. but then you said that the RPM\'s shot up, so that must mean the car was still on. huh, strange.

keep us posted as to what they tell you...

They told me that they sold me the wrong floor mats and that the gas pedal was getting stuck on the floor mats. They appologized 50 million times gave me my money back and gave me the mats for free. So i said im never going to a mazda dealer again since i work at a different dealer anyways.

Yeah let us all know. How could they sell you the wrong mats? You would notice right away that they don\'t fit.

It wasn\'t me.:D

I didnt install them right away either i baught them and drove home then cleaned my car and installed them but i didnt notice they are extremeley similar to my view. The ones for the 6 are a little bit longer than the 3 ones

Are you talking about the all-weather mats or the regular ones?
