I have been experiencing a few problems with my 2004 automatic Mazda 3. The first problem I have had is Power Surge Problems. I will be in reverse or driving forward and all of a sudden my car will get this sudden amount of power where I\'m tossed into my seat while my foot isn\'t even on the gas peddle. It is so scary and i am very lucky that I have never hit someone.

The other problem that I am having is my car shutting off all on its own (seems to be during the winter months) The first time i was at a red light - all the warning lights came on and the car just shut off - the second time I was idling in traffic - and the third time I was coming out of a drive-thru.

Mazda tells me that many 3\'s are experiencing these problems but they don\'t know what is causing it.

Can anyone help me out? Have you experienced these problems?:(

What has the dealer told you specifically? Also what are they going to do to try and fix the problem?

Sounds like you need to find a new dealer.

They have had my car so many times and can\'t find the problem. They say that the computer readings are coming back fine and they can\'t seem to find out what\'s wrong. Maybe I will try another dealership.

I\'ve lurked on 3 Mazda Forums for over 3 months before joining. During that time I\'ve come to know some of the problems associated with the Mazda 3 and your set of problems seems very unique to me. I doubt very much that \"MANY\" Mazda 3\'s are experiencing this problem. If so, this is the first I have heard of it.

What dealership did you take your Mazda to see?

I\'ve been going to the Avante Dealership in Richmond hill.

I\'ve come across this problem, but more severe. From the sounds of it, you were able to start the car up (after some time?), but I wasn\'t to do so. I was at an intersection when my car died after exhibiting the same behaviour as yours. I wasn\'t able to start the engine and I was towed to Avante (then, the Toronto location, before the change over). It took them a couple of weeks but they were able to fix it although they did blame the \"extra wiring\" for my stereo for blowing out the fusebox. I don\'t think this problem is strictly a Mazda3 problem, I have a feeling that it\'s happened throughout their entire care line-up, albeit rare.

Sue,
Based on your issue it does sound rather serious. I would suggest you take your car to Mazda of Toronto for further diagnosis.

I have the same intermittent problem as Sueb. Maxda3 GT Sport Automatic. When I first drove the car for the 1st 6 months, this happened to me once and I ignored it. Then I gave the car to my wife and it has happened to her 3 more times. She would be in a drivethru with the car in gear and foot on the brake. All of a sudden the car dies just b4 she is about to move. I went to Prima Mazda and asked if they heard anything like this b4 and they said no.

Although this hasn\'t happened lately, but I\'m wondering if overfilling the gas tank has anything to do with this???

I\'m not a mechanic, but based on all of you have AT, tell your service advisor to have a look for the transmission.
