Hey guys,

I figure someone on here will know this... If I remove the airbag sensor light (the one above the ashtray), the airbag light on my dash comes up. No I am not wanting to sue Mazda LOL... I want to know if the airbag will still continue to function normally.

Thanks
John

may be you can rewire the light to other place??? the light only tells you if the passenger\'s airbag on/off condition w/the seat sensor, so still be functional if bad thing happened.

The airbag light is turned on by the weight sensor on the passenger seat. Which then gives the signal to the module not to deploy the passenger bag. Tampering with any part of the airbag system can cause the airbag to malfunction.

Joe,

Is that to say that the airbag will not function properly without this light? Would the senor not still be there, just not lighting up the light?

Thanks
John

From speaking to my tech about the system he said that the light works in conjuction with the airbag module. Light turns on pass. bag should not deploy.

That night when I left work, I took a second look at it. Despite posts on M3F, you can simply remove the light from the plastic housing. As long as that light is pugged in, the Airbag cluster light goes away, and all is good ;)

Yeah I have my screen installed there also, and I just tucked the light behind, so it will still come on when weight is there but I wont see it anymore :)

Not sure what you think of this... but whynot get a black piece of vinyl, cut it to the size of the circle and cover it?

I think the issue is not that they want to cover it, but rather remove it so that they can use the space for a video screen. As has already been stated, moving the unit behind the screen would likely be the best thing to do.

Ahh, the search striketh again!

I was just noticing while driving to the gym today that my passenger air bag light was off. I had wondered what that blank spot was, figured it was a feature I didn\'t have or something.

Anyway, I had my laptop and gym bag on the seat, and I guess this caused it to come on.

Is that because it\'s not very heavy, so the sensor figures it\'s a kid or baby in a car seat, so disables air bag deployment?

Right, if it\'s lit, the means that the computer senses something on the seat but it isn\'t heavy enough (thinking it\'s a small child) to trigger the airbag in case of an accident.

If the light is on, it\'s not working.

pg 2-45 of the manual states ;)

To reduce the chance of injuries caused by deployment of the front passenger air bag, the
system deactivates the front passenger front and side air bags and also the seat belt
pretensioner system when:
• There is no passenger in the front passenger seat. (The front passenger air bag
deactivation indicator light does not illuminate.)
• The total seated weight on the front passenger seat is less than approximately 30 kg (66
lb). (The front passenger air bag deactivation indicator light illuminates.)

and the following page gives you a scenario chart - when the light is on/off

I need to double check the weight limit for the air bag sensor light for 06 models.
cause the light comes on for me even with some one weighing at 87 lbs.
