View Full Version : Frozen Fluid Nozzle?

for the last two days my driver side washer fluid nozzle has not worked.
great timing considering the condition of the roads....

anyway....has anyone else had a problem with this? this is a first for me, with any of my cars.
assuming it\'s frozen, is there an easy way to fix this, or do i have to bring it in for service?

I normally gently run my snowbrush bristles against the nozzle to remove any ice build-up.
Not sure if this applies to your situation.

Yup, I do the same, but it only works if there is a build up of snow/ice. Is your nozzle not working because it\'s clogged/blocked or is it just not getting any pressure?

thanks guys. :)

got it working. jammed a pin into the holes of the nozzle. i guess they were clogged/frozen.

still confused as to why this would happen though.
would snow/rain actually be able to get in those little holes? and all of them at the same time?

weird.

i guess it\'s too late but be very careful with the pin.. a slight shake of the hand and you\'ll be sprayng cars to either side or on your roof :p

maybe your windshield washer fluid is the \'summer\' edition? also the recent heavy rains may have caused some pooling in the nozzles and then froze overnight..

hmmmm.....now that you mention it, when the salesman was goin through the deliver inspection, he showed me the fluid resevoir and straw-thing to check the level ( which i found odd )

anyway, the fluid in the straw was clear. when i asked him if they put water in the resevoir he assured me they hadn\'t.

is it possible the because you only see the small amount of fluid in the straw that you don\'t see any colour in it? or is he a an f\'ing liar and they did put water in there?

I just had this problem last night!! I am sure i don\'t have any water in the reservoir. I put in RAINX winter edition.. My car has been in colder weather and last night was the only time it didn\'t work for me.. both the passenger side and driver side...It\'s really weird.

Great way to crack your windshield by spraying hot water onto frozen glass.

I admit that in the summer time it is pretty useful if you drive up north and need to get rid of the bug guts & juice.

Especially considering how weak the front windshield seems to be on the 3.

No, thankfully I have been lucky thus far (knocks on wood).....but if you do a search for windshields you will find a number of threads/members who have had their front windshields cracked by rocks, and to me at least it seems like a pretty high percentage.

FYI, I\'ve been using the motomaster green washer fluid ever since i got my car. Those washer fluid never let me down once (at least up till now). 2 days ago i found my nozzle stuffed up with snow. The fluid just blasted thru those snow clogged up inside. Those washer fluid also contain detergent that will help clean your windows. They are green in color and they sell for $2.49 at cdn tire. Give it a try.

-my 2 cents.

Hate to bring up an old post but this happened to me yesterday. I come out of my house at 6:30 am and find ice on all the windows. I start my car up and go grab my ice scraper to get rid of some of the ice. As you know, when its cold and your in a hurry, you never do a perfect job so I did what I could. I get in the car and start driving and try to use the fluid and wipers but nothing came out of my wipers. I thought I was out. After work I tried my wipers and there was fluid coming out. I guess something did freeze in the nozzle. I'm thinking of getting the Motomaster washer fluid with teflon (pink solution) and I have had good experience.

My brothers M Benz has this feature you're referring to. The disclaimer in the manual indicates that the interior of the car be allowed to heat up before using the hot water from the windshield washer ducts. They too might be concerned about hot water on the windshield.

More importantly I doubt actual "hot water" is being used. My guess is that the water is warm. Hot implies something completely different.
