I was driving home from basketball last night. I had stopped at a red light, then proceeded to take off, but I forgot to put the car in gear..:sarc
Anyhoo, as such the engine revved up to about 5-6000rpm with no load.....:(
About 10 seconds after that my CEL came on. I thought it may have been the fuel filler cap, as I had filled up earlier that day, so after checking that, no change.
I tried turning the car off, and then on again in the hopes of a reset but no joy.
I also tried it again this morning and the CEL was still there...!
Any ideas, I have to take it into GIRO I think, but I just thought I\'d check here first.

Try disconnecting your battery for a minute or so then put it back on. I get CEL sometimes too. But disconnecting the battery negative terminal cures it.

it\'s not a cure (solution) unless you read off the codes and then reset it.. it\'s identical to putting a piece of duct tape over the CEL so you don\'t see it.. :sarc
as they say.. \"out of sight out of mind\" or something like that

WOW just few days ago I got the same situation, and now as u described I remember I got a very similar situation, I was slowly rolling out of the parking lot and merged to the street, I watched for the traffic and tried to accelerate, the car reved up then I realized I didn\'t engage a gear (although mine is a 5sp), but the car is actually rolling ahead since the ramp is kind of decending, I put in 1st gear and accelerate, CEL was ON! Next day I rushed myself to Scarboro Mazda, and u can check here---> http://torontomazda3.com/forum/read.php?TID=5017

not gonna lie, i do this too!
(since talking to Pearly)
but we do this cause we know the CEL comes on from the intake getting wet/damp,
I only get the CEL now, after a wet day, the next day i am driving and i push a bit too hard
and . . . CEL,
i am getting better, doesn\'t happen as much now,
i remember to giver her a day after the rain to chill
i really got to get around to waterproofing that area!
well not waterproofin, but u know . . .

BTW i usually get CEL when it rains. The day it rained (i forgot which day) i was stepping on it, the CEL didn\'t come on. Infact it never came on after i got my exhaust on.

Should I remove my SRI before I take the car in?

i went to westowne, they mentioned to me that they noticed i had \'an aftermarket cold air induction system\', but they replaced my MAF sensor under warranty.
i guess it depends on your dealership, but if the problem is not related, i think u would be ok!

I rang Gyro Mazda, they said....
\"If the engine/drive seems to be fine let the car run through a full cycle. After that if the CEL issue is no longer there, the memory will reset and the CEL should go. If its still there after the weekend bring it on for a check-up\"
Does this seem right to ya\'ll?
I got the impression he didn\'t really want to look at it. :(

I have a scan tool that hooks up to my laptop, let me know if you want your car scanned.
You guys who got a CEL ... you can drive your car like normal?
I can\'t. Each and every time I\'ve gotten a CEL, my car is limited to like 2000RPM and 20km/h MAX. If I let the car sit in N (5MTX) idling, the vibration of the entire car is very bad. I can hear the engine clunking (not sure how else to describe it) too. :(
whodilly

I had a cel and it turns out one of the wires connected to the MAF sensor was broken.
The symptom was the RPMs fluctuaing up and down... it felt like my car was gonna stall at any moment.

Thanks for the offer, I\'m sure this would be a valuable resource for some.....:D
Mine fixed itself though.....and there were no symptoms, fluctuating revs etc....

so yesterday my CEL came back..... :sarc :(
luckily i\'m booked in to MoT on Saturday, but after listening to the engine a bit today, there appears to be a high pitched whistling coming from the area around my SRI pipe to the header or whatever it is.
Then i hear what i think is the flap thing that regulates the air as it closes. its sounds squeeky.
^ sorry for my untechnical speak... any ideas, should i replace the stock intake before saturdays visit to MoT? The MAF sensor is not cracked and everything seems tight, no loose bolts etc.....
thoughts?
thanks,
