oil change problem

My friend told me to get oil change at 2000KM-ish because it will do the car good. So I wanted to do that and I went to walmart because its cheaper. But walmart tech said there is some kind of canister on the car and he couldnt do oil change?

I was like \"WHAT THE\", so where can I get oil change on the mazda3 besides dealership? The dealership\'s oil isnt always as good and they are somewhat overcharged.

You can get it done right and go to the dealership or take it to a quick lube place that has done a Mazda 3 oil change w/ cartridge filter. That\'s what you have on your car.

I can sell you the filter and you can take it to a quick lube place.

Joe is the man! get your filter while you can! :D you might even get some price break at the quick lube places b/c you bring in your own filter.. just make sure you keep all your receipts so that if something goes wrong you can hold SOMEONE accountable (warranty claims and such)

Nah you da man majic! He\'s right keep all receipts in case down the road God forbid something goes wrong with your engine, Mazda will want to see your service records.

FYI, the price of the cartridge filter has gone up to $12.58 retail.

you trust a guy who can\'t even tell you what kind of oil filter is in your car?

how much cheaper is wal-mart over the dealer? oil changes are like $29 at the dealer and you get it done right the first time.

FYI, yes it is a cartridge filter in the 2.3L and it is not exclusive to the Mazda3 (several M-Bs have it, etc)

ROFL thats a load of horse manuar they could do it but their plane stupid. The filter is exactly like the metal ones just no outside housing. (pretty hard to explain) but all of the bmw\'s have them Instead of using an oil filter wrench u need a elen key or a 1/2 inch socket wrench and you can remove it that way.

that\'s like saying that your oil filter and your air filter are exactly the same.

the PART numbers and the METHOD to put a \"metal\" (canister) filter and the cartridge filter on are completely different.

wal-mart COULDN\'T do it because they may not have stocked the cartridge filter and the associated o-rings.

tell me now, if you were changing the filter, how could you conceivably fit the canister filter in the cartridge filter housing?

Buy the filter...and your own oil.
Ya the bulk oil is the cheapest stuff they can buy...we assume it meets mazdas minimum requirements, we hope. They wouldn\'t buy any more.
Any place (dealer or lubeshop) that uses bulk oil - has contaminated oil(moisture/dirt). Thats a fact.

They only way to ensure you get clean oil is to break the seal on the bottle yourself.
Bulk oil sux. I worked at a dealer for 5 years, none of the mechanics used the bulk oil.

As long as the oil your using is certified for; \"Ford WSS-M2C930-A \" your fine. Generally there are other API certification numbers but we have ford engines and that\'s the spec\'ed oil that will guarentee you warrenty. Since it\'s the same oil mazda will sell you spec wise (I got them to show me a bottle of mazda 5W20).

Personally I didn\'t go with el-cheapo oil I told Mazda to use my Mobil1 for the start but any WSS-M2C930-A certified oil will do.

I wouldn\'t go hyping WSS-M2C930 to much. The engineering standard is ISO controlled but it is pretty vague in reference to the actual properties of the oil. The control points are variables greater than/less than, minimum and maximum. The Range of oils that would fall into this category are pretty large.
I bet wal-mart oil is API Certified for gasoline engine service ILSAC GF-4 and meets API SM/Energy conservation standards.

p.s WSS-M2C930 is not an API number
