I don\'t know they always have lawn maintenance crew out there in the summer. There\'s plenty of room for the cars and people.

Guys, this is going to be bigger than just a huge parking lot. We have full support from Mazda Canada. Mazda support for car clubs has been difficult in the past due to the many clubs out there and they can only support so many. Because MOM consists of all clubs Mazda related they have agreed to support and help organize this event. Expect big things and be sure to check the rxclubofontario board for the latest details.

Thanks guys and hope to see out again this year. You guys did a wonderful job last year and we will strive to make it just as successful.

Mike

This is truly going to be a good MOM for the TM3 Club.

We\'re Bigger and better than last year. I\'m hoping that we will be able to be in the runnings for highest attendence club. We have the memebrs to do it now.

We made an excellent impression the first MOM we went to.... Then the committee did an excellent job in planning the second one... This time we are going to be really big. I can feel it.

Okay, here are a couple of pics I snapped on my lunch break today. It was kinda hard to get a picture that could illustrate the full lot, but too bad, I was freezing my ass off :D

This first pic is parked in front of the main entrance looking down the right side of the building:
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/PSIVIC/IMG_2057.jpg

Next pic is at the same spot except looking down the left side:
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/PSIVIC/IMG_2058.jpg

Just beside the Mazda parking lot there is another larger parking lot that I can only assume will be quite full too:
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/PSIVIC/IMG_2059.jpg

Hope that helps!

Still working on our flyers... but it\'s coming along.
Sick Children\'s foundation has been secured. We have a few things in the works.

The flyer should be posted near the middle of the month if not by the end of the month.

I\'m certain it\'ll be an event to remember.

We\'ll keep you guys posted!

I didn\'t know you guys worked at Mazda Toronto. Thanks for the offers... we\'ll probably take you up on your offer as we get closer to the end of the month... there are still a few things left in the air and we\'ll probably know for sure near the end of the month.
But we\'ll keep you guys in mind... :D

Weddings are the new fad for 2006. Everyone\'s getting married. I thought it would end from last year, but it looks like this year will probably be bigger for wedding couples!

Should we start a list to see who is going and who is bringing what? Or is it too early?

Neo
05-11-2006, 11:13 AM
Yes, you can start making a list. Just to let you guys know, the parking lot of Mazda HQ has only 120 spots. Now we\'ll be taking over the adjasent parking lot that belongs to \"fidelity\" or soemthing like that. But if you want to be on Mazda\'s main parking lot you have to make sure you arrive at the specified time!
\"Gates\" open at 9am and closed by 10am! So if you want a spot, you have to arrive early!! ;)

Alright, all those who are going to attend this event, please add your name to the list in this thread (http://torontomazda3.com/forum/read.php?TID=6120).

But if you want to be on Mazda\'s main parking lot you have to make sure you arrive at the specified time!
\"Gates\" open at 9am and closed by 10am! So if you want a spot, you have to arrive early!! ;)

Errr... I\'m assuimng you have gotten permission with security and authorities, so that MOM isn\'t crashed by cops... After all, we technically would be loitering...

I have a thought,

Any chance Flip/The Biz or could bring some MazdaSpeed parts and set up a little booth? I\'m sure he could sell a few stubbies at the very least. Could we also not get some our sponsors/affiliates to set up booths too?

It is more about a gathering of enthusists,

TheBiz is right... it\'s a gathering of enthusiasts. It\'s not an oppertunity to sell or endorse products.
Unless Mazda Canada is offering certain things, we shouldn\'t expect any \"booths\" of any type.

Alright bubba1983,

Here\'s an update. Yes, it\'s true, we\'re looking for an alternate location to host the event. We were a bit disappointed Mazda Canada wouldn\'t co-operate the way we wanted them too. They were willing to accept 110 cars but since you guys show up in masses, they freaked out and started to put regulations and what not.

So we\'re forced to relocate.

The event will go forward. We\'ll be posting a major update hopefully after this coming weekend. We\'re just waiting for a few confirmations.

Stay tuned...

In part, I don\'t blame them. It\'s a corporate office and it\'s their parking space. People have to work there on Monday. So I guess the fear of watching over 110 cars come around wasn\'t too appleaing to them.

They gave us a huge list of demands we had to fullfill or not have the event at all. City permits, portapotties (because they weren\'t going to open the building for us), food catering, and not to mention the clean up crew afterwards...
There was too much expense to account for. And we didn\'t want to cap people who wanted to show up, so we were forced to move the event.

They were reasonable requests, but since we\'re all broke, it wasn\'t going to happen.

So now we\'re in the midst of relocating...

It would have boosted their image 10 fold if they wanted to co-operate, but alas we can\'t make them change their minds.

swales
07-12-2006, 01:43 PM
That sucks but sounds like something Mazda would do, afterall why would they want to help out Mazda enthusiasts :sarc It\'s not like they couldn\'t write off any expenses as marketing related instead of trying to get us to pay for it all.

Okay guys, I will be posting the info up as soon as tomorrow. I\'m gonna run this by you guys but please this is not final. Just looking for your opionions. I am in search of having the food sponsored but if that doesn\'t happen I have the following two options.

OPTION 1:
$10 entry for 1 vehicle/1 person, $5 for additional people (under 16 free).
Includes: 1 Mazda goodie bag, ticket for door prize for everyone, food for everyone, donation to sick kids.

Pros:
-Value for the money
-The people from Mazda and the sponsors will be treated better (as opposed to \"bring your own bbq\" idea).
-RX7s have no trunks (can\'t bring our own bbq)
-More money for sick kids
-We worked hard to find a place that does not require pay to get in. (The RX Club has put $160 for the park, we would like to be reimbursed). But $160 will be about $1 or less for every entry as opposed to $5 to enter a conservation area where all the money goes to the park. This means more money for sick kids.
-I booked the lounge area to serve the food for two hours 12-2pm (I believe this is worth the extra $16.50/hr)

Cons:
-its $10
-some people enjoy the bbq\'ing

OPTION 2

$5 entry for every vehicle. 1 Mazda goodie bag, ticket for door prize for everyone, donation to sick kids. Bring your own food/bbq.

Pros:
-it\'s cheaper
-bbq\'ing is fun

Cons:
-The \"important\" people are not treated as well but maybe they\'d like bbq\'ing
-Some people might not like bbq\'ing
-RX7 guys go starving

S.F.W.
07-25-2006, 09:23 PM
if it comes down to it, the RX7 guys can share BBQ\'s with us. We are friendly, really we are...

Personally I\'m ok either way, $10 isn\'t much, and I like that we are also supporting Sick Kids.

justin
07-25-2006, 10:51 PM
Im with SFW. I\'m cool with either. And I too like the idea of supporting Sick Kids.

We could also use the money to donate to the humanitarian aid for Lebanon. At the end of the day, I think it\'s commendable to do either. :)

How are the sponsors treated better if the BBQ\'s are left out???

I think the BBQ thing is a nice touch for a big event like this.
We meet in a parking lot once a month and chat for a few hours... M.O.M should be more/better....than a monthly meet...

HEVNSNT
07-26-2006, 07:41 AM
Personally I\'m in favor of option 1 but I do understand the concept of enjoying a bbq with everyone. Some people may not. The act of bringing a bbq and food and cooking it ourselves may not be too enjoyable for some. I\'m sure we can accomodate the sponsors by supplying and cooking the meals for them so maybe it is not a bad idea.

The majority of the clubs have voted option 1 but I think what we\'ll do is allow people to bring bbq\'s and their own food but I\'ll need to know exactly how much food to supply everyone else. The only issue is it would be too difficult to differeniate who is bringing food and who isn\'t so the entry fee would have to be fixed $10 (food or without food). How does this sound? (FYI the park does not allow gas bbq\'s unless the person operating is has a license).

lates,

No offense dude, but... I\'m not having alot of faith in this meet now because of what you just said. First off, your flyer says that there will be a Pre-Production Speed3 at the meet. OK cool. I got my cameras all ready and my equipment in good working order. Then you say that the 3 is not going to be there, then blast us for complaining.

Am I going to spend 5 or 6 hours of my time detailing my car for this meet? AS of 5 minutes ago, I was going to; now, well I\'m not so sure. I guess we\'ll see.

Secondly, Most of us don\'t know what a Cosmo is because it\'s older than most of us. Even me, and I\'m 27 years old, prolly one of the oldest guys in the club.

Lastly, I guess cause some people don\'t show up, we\'re not enthusiasts? That\'s a pretty immature thing to say my friend, and you\'re only going to piss people off by making such a general statement.

Call me an *******, or whatever you want. I\'m pretty thick-skinned. But don\'t come on here and start blasting us because we expect one thing and then you switch gears and say you are going to deliver something else. That could be called bait and switch, and I ABSOLUTELY DESPISE that tactic.

Edit: For those of you that don\'t know what a Cosmo is, read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_Cosmo for more information.

Again, it\'s really hard to convay proper context through a forum. Words can be interpreted different and sentenses can be taken in the wrong context.

Noticed when I said \"real enthusiasts\" I made sure to put a wink at the end... I didn\'t mean to be hostile or anything.

I too own a Mazda3 (if you haven\'t noticed). The only difference is I don\'t hold it in such high respect as some of the people here. I know what it\'s purpose is for and I don\'t make it out to be anything more than that. I have plenty of respect for the members who managed to mod their cars. There was a point I was seriously considering keeping the car and changing it to what I thought it should be. But I quickly changed my mind when I keep getting torque steer from the steering wheel.
When you jump from a FWD car to a RWD car you notice a huge difference in handling. So I decided to keep the modding to my FD as opposed to the 3.

When some people say \"oh, the speed3 isn\'t there, why bother going?\" it\'s because he\'s either saying it jokingly, or because he has a sport3 himself, the priority just isn\'t there anymore.
Granted, it would be nice to see a Speed3 at the event. And I\'m working on getting it there. I\'m not holding my breath is all... if I don\'t see it at the meet, I\'m sure to see it on the road sooner or later.
In truth, I would be more intereseted in seeing the hardtop Miata or the Rally RX-8 over the Speed3. Everyone has their own preferences... :)

I have to apoligize for some of the details that were given. We base the flyer on the info that was given. Everyone knows car companies can change their mind on a wind. At first they told us they would bring a speed3, then when we put it on the flyer, they freaked and said no it won\'t be there. At least they gave us a possible replacement if they don\'t manage to bring a speed3.

I\'m sure there are plenty of members out there who are older than you are. We\'re actually the same age, the only difference is I knew about rotaries long before anyone really cared.
Believe it or not when I was really young I actually liked the Corvette! (I can hear everyone gasp right now)
When you\'re young (we\'re talking 6-9yrs old here) you look at the car and if the shape excites you, you think it\'s the best thing since sliced bread. However when you start to mature in your automotive tastes, you quickly find out the car you liked as a kid was (and still is imo) rubbish!
I first got the taste of rotary cars when I went to the dealer with my old man at age 15. We had our 626 in for service. While they were doing the paper work I took a look around the showroom. That\'s where I saw the RX-7 for the first time!! I instantly fell in love with it. Luckily around the whole dealership they had posters of the LeMans winner 787B and a few historic pics of the Cosmo in action. I got a brief history lesson from the sales guy just before he managed to take me for a test drive. Since then I\'ve only wanted 1 car.
4yrs later I bought my FD and I\'ve owned her since then.
Other cars have come and gone, but the FD will remain by my side till the day I die.

So don\'t take it so personally Justin... this is a forum... you can interpret things in alot of different ways...

Hope to see you at the meet...

Lates,

justin

Hey Neo,

This is the problem with the typed word. It\'s easy to misinterpret. So my apologies if I came across as harsh. :)

Hell I\'m with you. I\'d like to see a Mazda car there that I haven\'t seen before, be it a Cosmo, Speed3, or a Rally RX-8.

Either way, it looks like its going to be a great meet, and I\'m looking forward to being there. However that means I\'m going to spend 5-6 glorious hours washing, claying, waxing and cleaning my 3. Oh joy. ;)

Looking forward to meeting you at the, uh, meet!

Cheers mate,

Justin

Hey guys. I am the one responsible for the flyer, not Mazda. There was discussion about the Speed3 but no confirmation. In an effort to make the official announcement and flyer, it was my decision to include the speed3 in it. We now have word that the possibilities are slim as it simply won\'t make it to shore. The flyer will be updated tonight.

I hope what we have so far is of enough interest for everyone to show up. I keep saying this is a step in the right direction having Mazda Canada on board. It is up to us to make it worthwhile to them. I\'ve had a small discussion with Mazda about next years MOM but you\'ll have to wait till next year.:D

(And the Cosmo, don\'t expect it to be there)

In an effort to make the official announcement and flyer, it was my decision to include the speed3 in it. We now have word that the possibilities are slim as it simply won\'t make it to shore. The flyer will be updated tonight.

As someone who has done event planning before, it\'s generally frowned upon to promise something (which was done when the speed3 was added to the list of event highlights) that can\'t be delivered. There is no better way to get people \"riled up\". Not to mention, the bad press and lost attendees (and consequently, lost dollars) that results of such actions.

Nevertheless, I can understand that sometimes things like this happen, and things fall through. Let\'s just get the RIGHT information out to interested attendees, and all will be well. :)

No Cosmo? It\'s not a very far trek from head office to Elgin/Leslie.

I\'m still going regardless. Always good to see a lot of Mazda\'s gathering in one place.

Its MOM = Meet of Mazda\'s

Not MOM = See only one Mazda (be it cosmo or speed 3)

I like to take my time cleaning my car. I could go through the local touchless, but that takes all the fun out of it. Besides, there is no better feeling than seeing the fruits of your labour. And a sore shoulder to boot. ;)

I love to detail my car, so spending 5-6 hours is not a big deal for me.

Justin,
Charr is easy to pick out. He\'ll be driving the beatup blue (looks more green...)RX-7 with massive 18inch SSR wheels. He\'s never detailed anything in his life! LOL

Where has the flyer been distributed?

Last year I picked up a few and put them on windshields of any 3 I saw parked where I was.

Did you guys hand any out? Or give out any?

lets start organizing how we roll in!

it will be nice if we can roll in, in colour coded formation,

i suggest the west and central guys meet up at the central location 400 and 7
and the east guys meet up wherever, maybe 400 and don mills
(u guys pick)

meet at these locations at 830
leaving them at 850 to cruise to a location that is
is close to the event, maybe somewhere near major mac and leslie?
someone from that area might know a good spot

here we will form the line properly
and then cruise with all cars to the
park
leaving this location at 930

roll in at 945 to the event

we can do it a bit earlier if u want,

but lets hammer out the location
and start the roll calls on who will go where!

SIM SIMMA
08-01-2006, 04:41 PM
why not all of us meet at Don Mills and Steeles location (Thurs and Flippy Friday locale)

It is right off the highway... you have the option of cruising straight down Leslie to Elgin Mills or we can hop on the 404 head north and exit Elgin Mills.

Either way is cool... and a decent cruise distance.

Both should attract attention. :)

Figures some of you wouldn\'t know what a Cosmo is... rare rotary car. Very advanced for it\'s time. Mazda has built it\'s history with that particular car!

It\'s ok if some of you don\'t show... we\'ll know who the true enthusiasts will be! ;)

lates,

Volkswagen was able to import a few cars from Germany (old, new and promo vehicles) and as well let us test out the new EOS on a track (they had 3 of them), and GTI\'s at waterfest, bring in Helga from VW commercials and build a giant VW display. I\'m just comparing oranges to oranges thats all :)

i want one as well, it sux if they run out!

but still

fine westside meet where?

then everyone else meet at don mills and steels

that is cool!

if it is AMC spot that is to west for my taste
and i will just head to don mills and steeles

if u wanna westside meet and dixie and aimco i am cool with that
i would suspect we may bump into the TOP crew there
but thats all good!

400 and 7 would be good too
then straight down hwy7 to don mills

quickly decide so we can put up the roll calls

and shattup bubbs
we don\'t neeed a poll!

wahhh, suck it up.....try 2:30am wake up, to be on teh road at 3am, to meet up at 4am! lol

But I\'m coming from HAMILTON...so i gotta be up wayyyy early. I\'m still confused about this whole thing.
Is this gonna be judged???
Anyone have the contact info of the organizer

check the links they posted and pm them
or pm them here

but,

i think that people will vote for their tops in each of the categories
and then they will tally the scores
that toronto star guy will pick best overall

and they will have prizes in a bunch of categories

3
6
323/626
MX3
MX6
protege sedan
protege hatch
miata/mx5
other
RX8
RX7

If there a prize each for protoge hatch & sedan.
Is there one for each hatch & sedan 3 as well.. or one for all 3\'s

just mazda3
i doubt they expected the numbers we were gonna pull
probably 2 late for this year
but maybe next year we will have 2 classess

If they are judging on sex appeal, there really only is one class.

The hatch of course..:)

Majic, stop abusing your powers to spread lies.

Everyone and their mother knows the sedan is where it\'s at.......Mazda has no problem selling them which is why they had to put the MS3 package on the hatch (needed all the help it could get).

I think I will bring the Tribute this year. Get to park by myself:p

If i am the only *Other* category... I get a trophy?...lol

I have just recieved the rough layout on how they want us to park at the park.
Apparently, they want the hatches to be in one section and the sedans in another.
We will be back to back with the proteges.

That means we\'ve to do one more, colour co-ordinate and then seperate the hatchs and sedans.

It\'s kind of late, I don\'t feel like uploading anything, if anyone wants to see the layout, they are welcome to msn me (it\'s in my profile) and i\'ll send you the PDF profile.

edit: it is unclear where cars such as civics are going to park as it is not indicated on the map. There is a spot designated for \"other\" beside the mx-6\'s but I suppose thats for other mazda\'s that do not fit into any of the categories.

Well I guess I\'ll give an update before I sleep

***Registration***
-Registration is $10 dollars per person, $5 dollars for each guest (16 under is free).

-We are required to sign a waiver for this event at registration (I assume to relieve the hosts of all liability incase we hurt ourselves or something)

-There will be a donation box set up at the entrance(registration) if you guys want to drop a buck or two.

-They need a megaphone to give instructions, Ami(S.F.W.) is going to ask teambedlam, but if anyone else has one, pls tell us.

-There will be a few games, some automotive related that you donate like a buck or two to play. Prizes are still unknown at this point, but it\'s for charity so I suppose even bragging rights is good enough

***FOOD***
-As far as food goes, it was planned that we make our own subs (sliced bread, ham/turkey/beef, butter, mayonnaise, lettuce, mustard, onion, tomato, cheese) + veggies and dip. Drinks inclu. water, coke, diet coke, sprite. They are trying to contact a pizza place to see if they will sponsor the event and have pizza.

-Napkins, Plates, Condiments will be provided.

-I don\'t think the food provided will be enough for some people, so therefore if you guys still want to bring a barbeque, you are welcome to do so. There will be picnic tables set up. There may be some restrictions on where you barbeque though but it should be okay.
***important*** Charcoal only, there are to be no gas barbeques.

***MISC***
-People who have FRS radios, pls bring them for the cruise up and down.

-They need some volunteers to help with the event. This will mean that you will have to be there earlier and will miss the cruise up with the rest.

-They are looking for someone that is certified in first aid to be the designated first aid person incase something happens.

-There will be a canopy for TM3 at the end of the row of parking.

-Club parking coordinator: a person responsible for co-ordinating where we park and such. I guess we don\'t really need a specific person, we can organize it all together.

-Chuckie
pls excuse the grammar and spelling mistakes, it\'s late.

Just another question. Will we have a TM3 dinner after the meet? all cruise down to a restaurant somewhere?

mit-gee-mui
08-14-2006, 09:04 AM
Thanks for the info Chuckie.

Just a question: What defines a \"person\" and what defines a \"guest\"?

As for the tm3 dinner, we can TRY to have one, but chances are, you\'ll be EXHAUSTED by the time everyone leaves the meet location, especially since we all woke up \"early\" to cruise up to the event. (Yes, I\'m not really an early riser). Or at least, that\'s what happened last year - we all just parted ways.

Guests ride in the seat. A person you throw in the trunk.

haha

that is perhaps the best explanation ever!

lol

or in the case of MGM
we could throw her in the glove box!
lol

ok, Chuckie

good stuff!

if we are gonna do a dinner afterwards, we may not need to bbq, since we will probably be held over with the sandwiches,
we could bring some snacks in that case!

but it is doubtful everyone will come for dinner,

i am in,
if you want chuckie
set up a after MOM dinner meet, and see who signs up
or whoever wants to come can just all come

ok, in terms of colouyr coding,
in the westside we are not gonna do anything
we will colour coordinate when we reach the east pre-meet location!

when we pull in the lot, we will add to order that should already be set up when we get there!

I still don\'t get the $$$.

I can see the $10 from the car owner...as a donation or whatever you want to call it... but how can you charge for a guest??? What about the people wandering in/about that want to take a look at the cars or event?
Going to chase them down and tell them to cough up $5 or get lost?? Going to have the entire area fenced??
I\'m just going to drop the wife and kid and 2 friends off at the side they can walk in... save myself $15.

The idea is that the guests would be served food also. This is where the charge comes in (+ a little extra for charity). If you want to drop your wife and kids and let them walk in, then we aren\'t going to stop you or anybody else. In the end, we only wish that everyone has fun and money is made for Sick Kids. I feel that most people would have an understanding of this and help support charity.

Now I know you\'re not suggesting that you would do such a thing because your comment is very valid but I just want people to understand this is a charity event. The cost of attendance will cover expenses which I will provide full details on. So far I\'ve paid $180 for the park and $220 for liability insurance with ($1000 deductible) out of my own pocket. If there is any damage I am responsible for covering the $1000 deductible. There will be other miscellaneous expenses (garbage bags, ticket stubs, etc.).

Chuckie
08-14-2006, 05:54 PM
Yes, it\'s a public place. People can just walk in and look at the cars without paying.

With the 5 dollars you get - A stamp (probably a stamp) on the hand (I guess if they see people without stamps they might as them to leave?)

I believe 5 dollars for the guest will also get them a ticket so they can go to the food and drinks tent and obtain food. Unless you are bringing your own food for your wife. Besides your kid (under 16) gets in free.

I do not know whether or not guests also get a chance at (ticket for) the door prize which they will be raffling off.

Again, it all helps charity.

edit: lol.. im always late to post.. :(
so there, your answer.. what HEVNSNT said.

The cost will still be $10 dollars of which most will still go to charity.
Instead of make your own sandwich, we will have pizza and drinks from pizza pizza.
The food costs is being covered by one of the dealers I believe.
