I can honestly say that there are only a couple of cars that really make me drool. Of course, there are the Ferraris and the Porsches that would make anyone drool, but what cars are within your reasonable price points that really drive you bananas?

For me, a 2004 RX8 or a 2001-2003 BMW 330. Can\'t afford any of these new, but as a used car, they are less fantasy... I\'d love to have either one of these in my driveway. I would rather have one of these two than say a WRX STI. Not that I\'ve ever driven one of them STIs, but they just don\'t make me smile.

What tickles your fancy? Oh, and you can\'t mention the Mazda3, cuz that\'d be lame... :p

Any BMW, Audi or Jaguar (used) fits the bill. The trouble with the RX-8 is the rotary powerplant, which will be expensive to repair and unproven in the longterm. There are many shops out there that specialize in european makes.

I personally love the Mini Cooper S - I guess I have a preference for hatches. Trouble is - the used ones offered aren\'t much better deal than new.

+1 on mini cooper but needs to be the john cooper S. 210 hp supercharged on a little wee 1.6L engine. *drools*
My other one and always will be is the Audi S4. But with a $90k price range, it\'d be impossible for me to get it.

The Lotus Elise, for $58,550 Cdn MSRP you can get one. The Toronto Star had an article a couple of weeks back in the Wheels section, where a grandmother actually brought one, in British racing green too. :D

Don\'t know whats its going to be like used, but I\'m sure it\'ll pull the price down to my level of affordability.

The Lotus Elise is too hardcore for an everyday driver !! Doesnt it have the Celica engine in it ?

My picks:

Lexus IS 350 (or 250 awd if I cant afford the 350)
Lan Evo 8 (well, any Evo will suffice)
WRX STi
and the new Z4 coupe looks pretty sweet (the silver one with the black rims at the autoshow)

yup, but lotus engineers have fiddled around with it: (quote from http://www.rsportscars.com/eng/cars/lotus_elise.asp)
Lotus has tuned the engine to suit the very essence of the Elise by employing a brand new, custom engineered Lotus T4 engine management system (EMS). The software for the EMS was designed and developed by Lotus specifically for the Elise 111R. All calibration and validation work was undertaken solely by Lotus engineers, ensuring that the Elise performs as a true Lotus should. Toyota’s world-renowned VVTL-i system allows the engine management system the flexibility to select the optimum camshaft profile, lift and timing across the full range of engine operating conditions. This interaction between the Lotus T4 EMS and the VVTL-i system gives the Elise its optimum linear torque characteristics, peaking at 133 lb-ft at 6800 rpm coupled with the peak power of 190 bhp at 7800 rpm.

edit: A used 350z may fit my budget when I grad. but nothing right now... NOTHING fits my bank acc.. =(

hmm

ill be RIDICULOUSLY happy with these cars in no particular order: (except the bmw, lol its first =D)

e46 ci\'s, must be cabriolet. i feel the need for shit in my hair lol. most of them are around like 25+k or even 30k mark for 60K+ kilometer and over. and i can deal wiht that i guess

mx-5, there are some already on auto tradwer and they go for around 30-35+k lol

miata, 2000 and up and must have aero kit and ill be happy

hmm thats all i can think of right now.

honestly i LOVE sitting in the back of a ci wiht its top down. sure its kind of squishy at the back, but it feels COMPLETELY open unike the miata/mx-5. even with top down u still feel confined, with the bmw, when the top is down u know its down. i dunno thats the feeling i get lol...

ive sat in a 323ci wtih the top down, and absolutely LOVEEEE the rear seats. i swear if only i can describe the feeling i get.. its amazing.. anyways tyeah thats it lol

- Pagani Zonda F (of course I need to win Super 7 first)
- Datsun 240Z with a rough idle. The only japanese car with some real mechanical soul. I would love to own one of these in it\'s original form.
- NSX. I\'m still counting my lunch money. One day.. one day!
- Hachiroku with ITB. Nicest sounding 4 banger in my opionion. Too bad most of the people buy them (teenagers) try to turn them into some drift machine and ending up doing a half ass job. Then they\'ll get tired of it and eventually getting rid of it all hacked up... it really pisses me off when I see that. I\'m still waiting for a good condition one to pop up from autotrader. I\'ll restore it from frame up.

my buddies got a datsun 280z and it is f in hot. i think i would have to go for an audi rs4. but then again there is a crap load of cars out there. any lamborghini or most of the ferraris. i think for the buck tho i would have to get a z06. nothing beats what you get for 96 large.

There are quite a few cars that I would love to be driving but I can\'t say that they would \"stir my soul\"......

I would love to own a BMW 3 series coupe, a G35C, Acura TL. I could only afford these used and even then, it would be a stretch. My only issue with the BMW and Infiniti is that they aren\'t the most reliable cars long term. The Acura is a good overall car that\'s fun to drive while still being practical.

Truth be told if I could stretch the budget a bit further I\'d go for a Volvo S60R......those things are so sweet!

I would like to add, maybe a rare 1995 Legend 4-door GS with the 250 HP (IIRC) motor.

That was a very nice and impressive car in its day.

The TL is fun to drive but you\'ll get so tired from turning the steering wheel, since its so heavy. And when it comes to small parking lots and trying to park? Good luck. But they\'re really kickass on snow because of the traction control. And if you can still find 05 models. They are roughly going for $38k base. My dads one was $38k with no option to add. On the road was about high 40s because of the extended waranty and the winter tires.

Trust me, I\'m used to a shitty turning radius.....my Mazda6 was the worst I have ever owned for that. My brother has a 2005 TL and it has a better turning radius then my old 6.

A-Specs sport a tighter suspension, bigger rims, all-round skirt kits and special badging. Currently, it is available on the RSX, TSX and the TL.

Erin Mills Acura (Erin Mills Autocentre) Usually has a black TSX A-Spec and a black TL A-Spec out in front of their customer entrance. Check it out.

Don\'t know much about Skylines - are these the same as Skyline GTRs? There are 15 year old ones to be had for good prices:

If you don\'t mind the fact that the car is 17 years old and the parts are pretty expensive, the Skyline GTR would be the ideal car to fit this thread.

The 1989 to 1990 models are readily available and go for around $24k. Any newer Skyline GTR lets say a 1998 and up I\'ve seen go for $35-40k.

Going to add Nissan Skyline R32 to my list now,

Went to jdm-imports today to check out their white nismo r32, pulsar GTR and a genuine S13 with a HKS crate motor. The R32 was very raw and built like a fighter plane.

While reving the motor, the RB runs so rich that fuel just spills out of the exhaust :p I loved it cause it was like giving those hybrid driving environmentalist a big **** YOU! :D

Okay, I\'ve pretty much made up my mind that I\'m going to sell the 6 and get something older and with more mileage. Logically, it makes no sense. Giving up a reliable (I think) low mileage 6 (13K odo) for a 3 year older car with 100K on the odo. And then there\'s the high price for service...

Here are the choices so far (pretty similar in price if you can believe it):

2001 330i
2001 540i

Price wise, I may have to kick in $5K to $7K, depending on what I can get for the 6 in a private sale. If I can\'t get a good price for the 6, then you guys\'ll have to put up with me for quite awhile!

Depends if you waxed the car or not. :D I would imagine it beading with the German car, since they\'re pretty anal about everything from engineering to their paint.

Between the 330i and the 540i, I would go for the 540i. Damn sweet V8 ride, its got that german business-like panche to it. Sort of In-Your-Face-I\'m-Richer-Than-You feel to it. The BMW 3-series have the yuppie cuteness that doesn\'t compare to the more mature 5-series.

Just IMHO.

lol

your decision to get a car with THAT MUCH MORE milage then yours is whats not making much sense. atleast get one with less milage (60k area, the ones just off lease). anyways the 5 series (if i remember correctly from another forum) arent very realiable (e39\'s) and have lots of things going wrong with them. btw maybe the 330 u sat in had a mpackage?

u shoudl already know that in the long run tehre are going to be major problems and with the cars u mentioned with such high milage, that time would be very close for you. just keep your 6 lol. ive narrowed my next car purchase to be a 6 or a altima lol. the 6 looks like a very nice carrr

They\'re so much more expensive with that \"low\" mileage. I\'m resigned to the fact that I can only afford something with 80 to 100K on the odo.

Test drove the 330ci today. OMG, this will be my next car. The dealer and me were $500 apart in price. They offered me an excellent trade value for the 6 (signficantly more than I expected) and discounted some off the price of the car, but I had a number in mind that I wouldn\'t budge from.

WuD, you gave up the 3 to your now 6 cause you want more space if I still have my memory correct, but 330i actually smaller than 3 for the interior. for 540i you should a bit worry about the high maintainence cost, but if you don\'t mind both are good cars to drive cause they are BMW

for now, I quite interested the Golf V GTI 4 dr w/ DSG

Aren\'t older Bimmers plagued with costly problems? Both are nice cars IMO (3 and 5 series), and serve quite different purposes. Personally I would go for the 3......while the 5 is nice, it is looking a bit more dated to me while the 3 series still looks so amazing. I\'m sure insurance would be cheaper on the 3, as will gas and possibly servicing.

You are so right K! I went for a test drive in a 540i and the engine was so powerful! But inside, it felt like a car from the 1990s! I am leaning toward the 330 (if I can get around this issue about repair costs...).

NOTHING compares to a BMW - ditch that sorry ass 6 and step up to an awesome machine if your serious! I\'d go with the 5 series - best sedan out there IMHO with the dynamics to die for.

The 3 series is good, but I found that the 540i sport has the added heft and features that\'s really hard to beat. The newest 5 series is gorgeous with attractive lease rates - I\'m a fan of Bangles work.

My first choice would be the new BMW 6 series - after I win tonights lottery and wake up.:zzz

BMW dealers offer a comprehensive warranty on previously enjoyed models. You may pay more at an authorized BMW dealer, but other used car lots can have the occassional bargain. Of course, you will be in a better bargaining position without a trade. You might save on GST and PST with a trade depending on your amount financed

yah, thought I\'d fall in love with the 5 series, but at that vintage (even the 2001 I test drove), the interior seems really dated!! Kinda like my parents Oldsmobile Delta 88 kinda feeling. Of course, that\'s exaggerating a little, but I was not impressed with the interior of the 5 series. Plus, there are a lot of dead pixels in the radio, dash, etc. Apparently, a very common problem with the 5 series.

Now, this one is purdy. I sat in this one and there are my drool stains all over the car now... (http://www.trader.ca/powerpage/details.aspx?vlotid=231697&adid=5044155)

nothing is more sexier tha a e39 5 series with the mpackage. jesus christ lol...

the interior is like ANY OTHER BMW, business and driver orientated. i would get the 540 cause of its sexiness, but i would make sure i have the money to pay for the problems that are just over the horizon lol

Nice. I remember when the M5\'s were the ultimate sedan. They\'ve really depreciated quite a bit! Funny how the 5 series depreciates so much more than the 3 series. The M3\'s seem to fare a lot better.

But, alas, it has to be automatic. I really thought I could get away with having a stick, but it\'s just not convenient when the wife has no interest in learning to drive manual. But, she gave me two kids, so I\'ll give her 9mos x 2 before I buy a manual car again ;)

My 330ci saga:

Them: \"Hi, Nathan. How\'re you doing? We just wanted to let you know that, before we close the deal on the car, the car had some bodywork done to it. There was a small scratch that was caused by someone backing out of the lot. So BMW resprayed the area.\"

Me: \"Is it noticeable?\"

Them: \"Only if you look at in in the sunlight and were looking directly at it.\"

Me: \"Why didn\'t you tell me about it when I put my deposit down?\"

Them: \"My boss just told me about it. Sorry I didn\'t know. But we want to provide you with full disclosure. We don\'t want to represent the condition of the car to you.\"

Me: \"Okay, so how much damage was there to the car? Just the scratch?\"

Them: \"I don\'t know, but it wouldn\'t be much because BMW would cancel the warranty if there was over $5K in damage.\"

Me: \"Do you have a report from BMW when they repaired the vehicle?\"

Them: \"We\'ll get a report for you.\"

:sarc

I\'m paraphrasing, but that\'s basically the jist of the discussion.

Thanks for the congrats on the almost purchase.

No, it\'s not a certified pre-owned stealership vehicle. Those are too expensive for me.

I\'m rolling the dice somewhat with a non-CPO vehicle, but it saves a lot a of cash. And the inspection I requested from a BMW dealership is not your shitty certification, it\'s a full blow mechanical and body inspection walk around.
