I know how you feel. My lady is an RT who works 12 hour shifts and sometimes she\'ll be talking on the phone with me at 1AM on her break...then her pager goes OFF and she has to go right away.
Keep on venting Ray. ;)

Cool, do RNs have the same schedule as RTs? Like you get break/sleep time at night but have to carry a pager and if it goes off, you have to answer the call?
I guess you have to deal with codes as well? I know a few of them from being educated from my lady, pretty interesting stuff.

As far as scheduling goes - its usally a rotation of a couple weeks nights and a couple weeks days. On my floor its all 12hr shifts. So either you start at 0730 or 1930. We usually get break/sleep time at night. All depends on how busy or sick some of the patients are. Most of us stick around near the floor/ or on the unit just so we can hear and wake up if in need. Can never really fall asleep.. always got a ear out.
We have codes all the time. Never a good way to wake up at 0200am.

Im at Sunnybrook and the craziest was a code black... actually not to long ago. I first came up on our printer and then they announced it overhead. Then just like in the recent Grays anatomy episode, patients and families were like \"Whats code black??\" All was good in the end..
We have had a number of jumpers and mental ward escapies.
In terms of Hot docs... We get a number of them. Since we\'re a teaching hospital we get alot of young residents. They rotate over every few months or so. Of course alot is hidden by OR scrubs but you can tell its there.
I once ran into one of our residents after work in the parking lot and she had changed clothes and i was like WHOA!!!
