View Full Version : Inverter Install
Hi Guys,
Sorry, this is kind of a repost, but I thought I\'d get more response if I moved it to its own thread.
I\'m about to install a power inverter in my Maz3 Sedan. I have no problems with the technical side of it, but I was wondering if anyone else did the permanent connection thing and how / where did they run the cables.
I found one post that showed the battery connection and the cables coming up under the front passenger seat, but not how they got there from under the hood.
While I\'m at it, does anyone have any opinions on the Crappy Tire \"Eliminator\" power inverters?
Cheers,
G

i am using an eliminator right now!
i think that i get a bit of engine noise because of it, mine is run into the glove box
thru the firewall there is a whole by the pedals, not sure how the setup is different in standard cars (ie, i guess i am using a hole that was their for the clutch)
edit: i c ur car is auto, so yeah u will find a white plug, that just comes out, take it out, drill a whole in it for ur wires, and run them thru that into the engine bay!!
done and done!
i have a question, what size fuse would u run inline with ur inverter?
The fuse would depend on what Inverter you have and what you plan on running with it.
Take the total watts divide it by 12 (volts) and you will get the current you will be pulling.
eg. My 400watt inverter has a max spike wattage of around 720 Watts. 720/12=60A fuse. I\'d even go with an 80A in this case Max 960 Watts. It will still easily blow if you short out your battery. That would likely be 1000+ Amps.
Just keep in mind that what you are connecting (eg a PC) will have a much higher startup wattage then while it is running. You don\'t want to blow your fuse when you start it.
DO NOT install an inverter (or anything direct to battery) without one. Your just asking to kill your whole electrical system.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the the way through the firewall!! Is this the way everyone does it, or is there more then one way?

i knew u would find that,
u dirty bastard!
hey, when i finished drilling that hole, i felt pretty good, but i left something there inside of it
ah well . . .
:p :hoho :sarc
A bump to see if anyone else has any input and get it back on track :p
I\'m sure Broli isn\'t the only one who has done it. Is he right, is it the only and/or best way to run throught the firewall?
How about after you get through? Is there an obvious path to get behind the dash, under the center console to under the front seats?

it is easy to run under anywhere you want,
sorry that it is me responding again lol
anything in specific?
I guess I only have 1 TM3 Friend :( but you are loyal :D Thanks for that!!
Nothing specific, I just want to make sure I don\'t get any surprizes when I go to do it.
I did my inverter install yesterday. It was a lot easier that I thought. By the looks of it I went a bit overboard with 4ga power wire. It looks like the Batt itself only has 8ga.
I took pics, anyone interested in me posting the \"How To\"?
Thanks again Broli for showing me how to hack throught the firewall:D
