Punta Cana or Varadero?

Ok, I\'m doing the vacation thing. Although, its kinda late in the season, my job is driving me nuts and I\'m stressed out like a drugged-crazed mofo.

I\'ve narrowed it down to Cuba, but I haven\'t been there before. So would like people\'s opinion with either location. I\'m looking for some fun time. ;)

Punta Cana or Varadero?

I would suggest varadero because it is away from the city and the environment is much more peaceful. And since you want to run away from busy cities and stress I\'d suggest you go there instead of Punta Cana.

The water in Varadero is much nicer and clearer.

I\'ve been to both places and love Varadero the best. The environment is better, water is clean, the beaches are clean and peaceful. I can\'t say anything about the nightlife though outside of the hotels. Your money will go further in Cuba too . Either place though be careful about the type of hotel or vacation spot - look for a minimum 3.5 stars.

Isn\'t Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic? Both area\'s are supposed to be quite nice and my wife and I are also considering the two locations. We were going to go to Vegas but for the same money as a 3-4 night stay in Vegas we can go to one of those all-inclusives for one week and still probably save some dough!

i have been to both
Varedero is nice..great beaches but the food sucks i lost like 15 pounds i was on a salad diet..lol
the people there are nice


Punta Cana is in the domincan and the food was good there
they made some nice food

and the girls are amazing there
i love the spanish girls there jus so beautiful

I have stayed in the Occidental (sp?) in Punta Cana, and in Beaches Varedero... both resorts were Excellent, and I would recommend either to someone.

The water in Varadero is nice and clear, and the beach is also above Par.
The water in Punta Cana is clear too, just not AS clear as Veradero. That being said, the sand on the beaches of Punta Cana, is top notch! Simply awsome!

I dont know about night life out of the resorts. Most will have a \"Disco\" (god that word sucks! :)) with some tunes, and women.

Cuba has cheaper souviners and things, but your \"excursions\" off the resort will be close in price.

If you go to Punta Cana switch your money into USD first. You\'ll save in the end. Also note you can;t switch from Pesos back to dollars, so be careful what you spend, and convert :)

Id go Varadero, Dominican has a malariya problem right now. Plus Cuba was always safer and cheaper for Canadian tourists.

Cuba, go while there is still no American (or limited) influence.

The beach in Punta Cana is one of the nicest in the world. I spent 2 weeks at the Fiesta Place in Punta Cana 2 years ago and I could have stayed longer. The food and people were awesome at the resort. The night life in both of these places is limited to disco\'s on resorts, that is unless you pay a local to take you to a local club for the evening where you will be the only forign person there. Food is the biggest thing to consider when taking an all inclusive trip and that will vary from resort to resort in the same location. I think you would be better to ask for a nice resort to go to.

If you haven\'t already, check out www.tripadvisor.com....there is tonnes of info there on each and every hotel you could be considering including candid photo\'s, real reviews by regular people, etc.

Oooooo 50/50 \"after i voted\"... I\'d go with Varadero. I\'ve been to both places and I have enjoyed Varadero more. The nightlife was a bit better in varadero and as mentioned above, the beach is much nicer.

Edit: after reading Caz\'s post, i remembered that the food in Varadero isn\'t the greatest, unless you spend the extra money and go with a hotel rated at MINIMUM 4*. Punta cana was bette in that department.
