Hi,
I just purchased leather seat covers (http://cgi.ebay.ca/2004-05-Mazda-3-NEW-OEM-Leather-Interior-Seat-Covers_W0QQitemZ8051411509QQcategoryZ33702QQrdZ1QQ cmdZViewItem). In the ad it states you must remove the existing appolstry to get the leather to go on. Now i wa wondering if you have to clip it to the foam that the actual mould of the seat was made of or if i would just pull off the old and slideon the new. Has anyone ever had their seats taken apart and reaembled? and how was it done?
Thanks so much

daniel

I did run a search and contacted the dealer and no one can give me a clear answer

Try one seat first, removal should be straight forward. If all else fails take it to a trim shop.

There is a small chance that they will have small plastic clips on the trim that snap onto metal rods embedded in the foam.
But odds are they will have to be attached by C-rings - Hog Rings.....

The seats are in and they are fully in need of hog rings

Would 200 hog rings be enough?

where r u gonna get the hog rings n pliers from? theres a site which sells them if you know somewhere local pls share. http://leatherseats.com/section.asp?sid=15

also the link is dead but I found OEM leather seats and they also make ones without the perforations.... here... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=8047318261&sspa gename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

so far they \"seem\" the best. they can make any colour on earth if you want the ones w/o the \'holes\'

.Lets meet up and I can check them out.

I can get ya all the C-Rings ya want... We get them in boxes of 10,000... we use 100\'s of boxes..1000\'s.

Do you have access to an air line? Compressor? Might be able to borrow the *REAL* tool to install the C-Rings....

I was going to buy my hog rings from either nissan or BMW because i work at both dealers and I know for sure that BMW will sell them because they do in house leather removal and reinstalls when the seat heaters decide to give up. Although i am only a co-op student at BMW and work on saturdays at nissan. But thanks for the link because i think this place will be cheaper unless shipping gives me a nice kick in the butt

The tool i would see if i could borrow it from either dealer and if not i would end up sending it to a trim shop which is really my last resort

Also a total newb question but what does preforated mean? Is preforated the ones with allthe little \"breather\" holes in it? What is the difference between preforated and not? is not preforated better? Because the leather kit i have is the stock OEM or otherwise stated in the ebay auction.

Thats a great deal and i will take you up on that offer. But first i must wait until my seat heaters arrive because leather seats and no heaters in the winter UUUUUUUUU they dont really match lol

Sorry no i dont have acces to a airline or a compressor and i cant do it at any of the dealerships because i work at nissan only on saturdays and at bmw as a co-op student.

I do know there is a set of hand usable pliars as apposed to the airgun version

hey guys.

yes perforated means holes :) which means the OEM, so if your says OEM it should come with holes.. I personally do not like holes coz it just gives more areas to snag or crack etc and applying products wouldnt be AS straight forward. But getting them to make ones w/o perforations would be $100 bucks more than that ebay auction price I sent you. I am hoping to get mine done in the summer, but I have so many mods lined up I have to see how the $$ situation goes.

When are you planning to do this? I wouldnt mind helping or just come to watch stare and point, do you have a copy of the manual on CD? tells you how to take off seats etc or since you work at a dealership r you like all sure how to get them off? I say always be prepared :)

did you get seat heaters from here? http://carseatheat.com/index.html

EDIT actually the link you gave me is exactly what i ordered off of ebay

Yes my seats are preforated then because they do have the holes in them, and no i did not purchase my seat heaters from there i also purchased them off of ebay here (http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8022384294&rd=1&sspage name=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1). I know how to remove the seats because i removed my seats today and took a look of how to remove the cloth and they are full of the hog rings.
I do not have an instruction mannual of how to remove them because i only saw it with my bare eyes. The rings must be cut for some reason they cannot be opened using pliers if you want to reuse them. I tried that one already. I have no issues with you comming over and seing how it is done. Just have to wait for the heaters then for sabio to have time to help me install them :p :)

C-RINGS!!!

They can be opened with a pair of side-cutters, but you can\'t reuse them. Once they are snapped closed...that\'s it. Don\'t totally take apart all your seats. I would like to see how they are attached as well. Or at least take pics. It is important to place the C-Rings in the same area in the foam and through the trim for proper trim/seam alignment which prevents wrinkles and loose/baggy trim.

Let me know...whenever. Free everynite this week. If you are taking some of it apart, I can help.
then when the heaters come in, i will help install.

Hey sabio,
i guess we could do the entire backseat this wednesday if youd be up to it.how much do you charge for the c rings? and also would you be able to get a tool by wednesday so we could close the rings? is wednesday cool with you? The backseats can be done then we wait for the heaters and do the front ones. Is that a good idea?

i installed my seat heaters and the leather and it looks awsome and it took me 7 hours i did it with my friend. about 200 hog rings for front and back seats was a lot of fun. We used a steamer to smoothe out all of the wrinkles. will get some pics tomorro if its not to crazy of a day
