Attended my first track day last week. I think some members here may have attended one today.

Wow, lotsa fun! If you think you\'re a good sporty driver, you really don\'t know anything until you take it to the track. You really get to test out your limits and the limits of your car. More times though the driver is a bigger factor than a car.

My BMW 330 has 225 hp (automatic tranny admittedly) and I could barely keep up with a totally stock Mazda Miata (140 hp - manual tranny). Here I am with the Ulimate Driving Machine, shod with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 rubber (probably near the top of all performance street tires) and an aftermarket sway bar and all I could do was follow the Miata (stock, stock, stock! Even with stock all season tires!). I wouldn\'t say I couldn\'t pass it, but it was hard enough just to keep up with it; I had fun chasing him down for 3 or 4 laps. And then there was an RX8, which many make fun of because of their Civic-like torque numbers, but which handed me my ass on a platter. Total respect for the drivers of these cars.

And for those who haven\'t gone on these track days, don\'t worry. Most events are just \"lapping days\", not really a racing day. The only time you\'re allowed to pass is on the back straight (at least at the Shannonville Fabi track I was on) and then only with the consent of the driver who you want to pass. If you pick the events where the organizers are very strict about the passing rules, you\'ll be fine!

Great to hear you had a blast. It\'s all about the driver. Little things like how you sit, position of the steering wheel and how you hold the wheel all make a difference.
Like I said before, everyone should try it at least once. :)

Heheheh...wait until you hear about the excitement from our Nelson track outing today :)
I didn\'t have a camera to capture all the mayhem and damage, so I will let someone else start a thread to cover the events..

My first time too but on Nelson track (different event from WUD) ... nice seeing SABIO, autoexe, and Domokun out!

I was one of the trouble makers (http://www.torontomazda3.com/forum/read.php?TID=6051). :(

Congrats on your first track day. If the bug bites you will soon sell your car in favor of one with a manual tansmission. Sing up for one of the many schools outthere, you will have a blast and become a much better and safer driver. Best bang for the buck is the BMW club driver training, twos days at Mosport!

advanced driver training... I guess they assume you already know the basics???

What if you are a newb? You can\'t just jump into Mosport..that\'s dangerous

Sabio, it\'s advanced driver training, meaning it goes beyond regular driving lessons and teaches you advaced driving skills for the street and the track. It doesn\'t mean for advacned people only. Even if you have never been on a track before you can attend and will learn something under controlled and safe conditions.

Yes Mosport is dangerous, it is not go kart track like Shannonville. Going for a lapping day with little experience is not a smart idea, however under school control it is just fine.

Try it out some weekend, you will love it!

Are there any other good driving schools, preferably closer to T.O.? Those Trillium dates don\'t work for me. And I likely can only afford a day at a time. Taking two days over the weekend: if the track doesn\'t kill me, the wife surely will!
