hello,
was just wondering what kind of advice you guys can give me for buying things and selling things off ebay. for example i read that most auctions with a good price and a good buyitnow price arent that great of deals because they charge crazy amounts on shipping. another thing ive read is to always check the shipping costs lol.
anyways any advice would be appreciated. not wanting to buy anything in particular, just wanted to try to use ebay lol. i completed my first paypal transactions not to long ago too :D

In no particular order, here are some random tips:
- at least at the beginning, try and only buy/sell from/to those with a good solid feedback rating
- watch out for sky high shipping prices
- buying from Canada will avoid paying duties and/or taxes at the border
- do your homework on the item you\'re buying, some people are out to scam others
- know what the maximum you\'re willing to pay for an item is before bidding....it\'s very easy to get caught up in the whole auction/bidding thing and you could easily end up paying more then you had originally wanted to.
- if you have a question about the auction, item, or anything else, ask before bidding
- have fun!
Bid within the dying minute of the auction, if you set a high maximum bid early then that give them time to scam you. The person who is selling the item can tell a friend to try upping your bids. Its risky on their part but can get them top dollar as well.
Once you try it you will be hooked.

I\'ve never had a problem buying things off of eBay. True, some items are more expensive if you use the \"Buy It Now\" option so if you are willing to wait and watch the auction like a hawk then bidding may be the solution. However, if the item is in demand, expect to pay close to the market value for the item, or sometimes over and above.
Check the seller\'s feedback.
Sometimes sending the seller an email and offering them a fair price for their item will work for you. However, this may only happen if you have a good feedback rating.
Watch the shipping rates and methods of shipping.
Read the description of the item carefully, especially on \"in demand\" items.
Sign up for a PayPal account, it\'s the easiest way to pay and most sellers only take PayPal.
Either way, have fun.

- Remember to keep an eye on the currency the seller is selling at - 20 UK Sterling is more than $40 CDN.
- Once you\'ve researched what you\'re looking at - specs and price - set a budget and do not exceed it - you may find yourself spending more than it would have cost in a store because you got bidding fever/caught in the race
- IMPORTANT ONE HERE - If it seems too good to be true, it probably isn\'t - this relates to knowing your product and prices - e.g. something that would \'normally\' cost you $1,000 in the store is being sold for $100 on ebay - it\'s either stolen, or more likely a scam (and the scams have many variants - google it). I\'ve seen high end Canon digital camera\'s that go for $10,000 in a store being auctioned for $2,000 - right(said in Dr. Evil voice)
- keep an eye for the off auction selling - usually a scam/trying to get personal info.
- what I\'ve heard is that generally, depending on what you are looking for - i.e. electronics, cameras, you\'ll do about 10% better than had you just walked in a store and bought.

Ask Supershyguy, he has a lot of experience, i\'ve used it maybe a dozen of times and the things to keep in mind are; pay on time if your a buyer, or ship rigth at the next day you received a payment if your a seller and always leave feedback.
If you\'re buying and you are seeing a good price and a few bids on the item, wait til 15 sec before the ending of the auction then bid and see if you are the higher bidder if not keep bidding fast before the ending and try to beat the other bidder.
Hope it helps.

its not risky at all. us sellers can cancel any bid we want. so I have the freedom to find out your max bid any time of the day :)

there is only a few things you would need to know I guess
always use paypal or credit card to pay. why?
cause if you send western Union or send money order, if something happens to the package or if the seller dont feel like shipping the item out. there is pretty much nothing you can do about it.
dont set a high maxium bid on there. like my post said from above. i can find out what your max is if I really want to. but as you can see. my auctions have a $15-$20 different on first bid and buy it now. so I wont need to use the dirty trick like that. or even any bidders would be able to find out your highest bid also cause any bidders can also cancel their bids at any given time of the day. so its kind of gay.
pricing wise yes ebay pricing is great. but most dealers are from US and expect to pay a really high price on custom, brokerage and taxes. a few member tried to get springs there and ended up paying $300 after everything. and it would have only cost them $250 ay any store in Toronto. so make sure you find a Canadian dealer if possible. and sure you can send it as a gift, but thats illegal and if its lose of damaged you wont get anything back cause insurance wont cover a $10 gift lol. so there is a huge risk involved.
Make sure you buy from sellers with a high rating like this guy - http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=supershyguy - 99% positive feed backs are really good. especially when he sells body kits lol
but you also have to worry about sales like those
http://cgi.ebay.com/50-x-NOKIA-N92_W0QQitemZ9728195681QQcategoryZ64355QQrdZ1QQcmd ZViewItem
N92 is going to cost around $1400 - $1800. and this guy is selling 50 at no reserve. and he has 100% Positive feed back so it must be okay right?
Wrong, they are those people that will send you fake Ebay emails to scam your password and will use your account on those auctions. so watch out. check there other feed backs to see if they usually sell the same products that you are looking to buy before anything.
and make sure you only use paypal or credit card ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS.
and if your product is not here with in 30 days. file a claim first before anything with paypal or your credit card company cause worst comes to worst you can pay the guy again after. but if the time limit is over there is nothing you can do some times.I know credit cardswill give you a 60 day windows to file a claim, but paypal will only give 30days so watch out. its better to file it first before you are sorry.
so Be smart about it and you wont get scammed :)

lol
my general rule of thumb for gifts is that i need it first before i can give it to anyone =p. of course certain items are not applicable to me, eg. the bag lol
and yes, the w810 is a very fine piece of electronics. it has everything i could possibly want except for a larger screen lol. i miss my s710

I love eBay!
One of my cordless phone batteries is dying. So, bring it in to the local The Source and holy mackeral, it\'s like $30 plus tax! Kiss my azz!
Punch in the battery model in eBay and voila - Cdn$12.50 for TWO batteries!!! Including shipping. Now the only unknown is whether I\'ll pay any taxes, but it won\'t be much at all. Plus, no chance of customs brokerage since it\'s being sent USPS.
