The manual says:

Don\\\'t use the lighter socket for plugin
accessories such as shavers and
coffee pots. They may damage it or
cause electrical failure. Use only a
genuine Mazda lighter or the
equivalent.

Is it not safe to plug in, say, an MP3 player or a cell phone charger? This seems pretty odd to me.

Audio devices like an MP3 player or Cell phone is ok. What Mazda was warning against are high power consumming toys.
:D

The Lighter outlet is just that...it\'s for the lighter (or something that draws little power)
It Is Not an Acessory Power Outlet. Plug in anything but a lighter and your gambling with the outcome.

From what I can tell, the 2006 doesn\'t have an auxiliary outlet? I\'ve never heard of not being able to plug in small devices in a lighter before.

works but is it under the \'limit\'?

see what the max current (or wattage.. P=VI, wattage/12V = I) is for the lighter and then see what the devices draw.. and see if you\'re within spec, pushin it or burning some circuits ;)

i have seat heaters installed under my leather and they are connected to the lighter outlett wiring. They have been used for quite some time and have had no problems so far. They are both fused with 7.5amp fuses. Ive had no electrical problems so far knock on wood

I blew my 15 amp fuse the other day must have been the portable DVD and my GPS.:p

If it happens again I\'m throwing in a 20 amp fuse.
