Anybody know if the Miata manual has the same shift knob specs as a 3 does? I have a MOMO shift knob that I would like to use on my 3, but it is a universal fit type that uses 3 small set screws, and rubber inserts, kinda lame. I\'d like to use this Miata/MOMO adapter, seen here http://www.gomiata.com/timomiad.html to improve the installation, provided the 3 has the same shift mechanism specs as far as diameter, and thread pitch, threaded length etc.

anybody able to check the fit on a miata with a 3 shift knob?

thanks
Brent

I have an automatic Miata knob one on my 3 auto. I\'ll check the 5spd one to see if it fits.

It should be ok b/c an RX-8 and Mazdaspeed6 knob fits.

Cool. Thanks for the photo evidence. I\'ve gone ahead and ordered one of the Miata/MOMO adapters from the original guy that made them, so hopefully next week I can get the shift knob mounted like it should be. I\'ll post a pic when I can. For those that are following along, I\'ll post some pics of the MOMO knob universal mounting arrangement as it comes stock. You basically pick one of 5 rubber sleeves to put over the shift rod, then friction fit the knob on top, and tighten down 3 set screws, but the whole arrangement didn\'t seem real solid, as it relied on just the set screws biting into the shift rod, and the rubber sleeves are made to only cover a small portion of the shift rod at the top. The new adapter I\'m getting should be much better, and add some weight to the process as well, to help with the shorter shift throw with the TWM.

thanks again Flipspeed.

BrentB, did you ever get that Miata thread kit to work with the MOMO knob? I\'m thinking of getting one of those MOMO Air Leather knobs but I don\'t like the three screws method either.

Yes its finished. The MOMO adapter is working awesome. I ended up getting it direct from the guy that designed them for the Miata, and at a better price!

You can get one for $12 + shipping from Lee Bohon

Email him here, lee@topdownmx5.com and I\'m sure he\'ll be glad to set you up with one. Tell him Brent sent you.

Check out my Cardomain site for pics. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2358457

If you do get one of the adapters and a MOMO knob with the screw on piece to cover the set screws, make sure to follow Lee\'s instructions about order of assembly, as the cover on the bottom will not slide over the adapter. This is pretty self explanatory once you see the instructions. I found with my MOMO shift knob, the knob sat too low on the adapter, so the set screws were just catching it, so I just put a thick plastic washer on top of the shifter rod before I put the knob on, to raise it up about 4mm.

I highly recommend the adapter though, as it provides a much more secure fastening method than just the stock MOMO setup with its rubber sleeve method.

good luck
Brent
