I was at one of those chip-repair places outside a Canadian Tire(st-clair and kingston rd) today figuring i\'d get some chips filled in. He checked my windshield and said that I didn\'t need it done caus they were just surface chips. Anyhow I also asked for a quote for a full windshield replacement with rain sensor.

1 windshield w/rain sensor $400+tax
4+ $350+tax

I don\'t know much about this company AMG Automotive Glass but they have 4 other Canadian Tire locations(I think) and a main office on Midland Ave.

If enough people are interested i\'ll get prices comfirmed, else PM me and i\'ll give you the rest of the info. I don\'t know them, so I don\'t know the quality of their work.

I thought the rain sensor was in the rear view mirror base? I don\'t see why a windshield for the 3 with rains sensor would be any different than one without rain sensor. That\'s probably the price of the windshield either way.

The rain sensor is actually attached to the glass, and not the mirror. The mirror just snaps into the sensor piece.

The rain sensor uses refraction of the glass to determine if any water is on top of the glass. Hence, the type of glass used is very important (different glass have different refraction levels).

I\'m getting my windshield replaced today... the cost of the windshield is $400. the cost of the moulding around the glass is $50 (apparently our moulding is non-reusable). The rest of the cost is labour. Everything after taxes should be around $600.

hmm that\'s a bit cheaper than what I got.

Mazda OEM glass w/rain sensor: $620
Labour: $100

I guess the only advantage is I got it at the same place I originally got my car so it\'s under the same guarentee if anything goes wrong.

I think people should also read Xenon\'s posting under Krown Lakeshore Auto Glass of June 18, 2006. http://torontomazda3.com/forum/read.php?TID=6555
This tells you his dissatisfaction with that repair.

I had mine with rain-sensor replaced at Midland/Finch area for $380 cash deal with warranty back in January. This shop has been around for years and they outsource the windshield replacement to an outside company who would come into their shop to fix it on the spot while you wait. Took them less than 2.5 hours to have it fixed.
