Never ended up getting the IPOD docking thingy, so next on the list is a camcorder. Looking to buy a used one off e-Bay or RFD. What am I looking for?

I think I read that the HDD cams are not as good quality wise as DV tape.

I know that the digital stills of the older ones are really poor quality ~ .3 to 1 MP, but I guess I could use the digicams we do have for that.

Looking to spend $300 for something the wifey and I can make p0rn with. Any of you geekzoids know anything about camcorders?

I don\'t personally know enough about the HDD camcorders to comment on them, but I would personally look at a mini-DV camcorder if I had your budget. Keep in mind though that for only $100-$150 more and you\'ll get a brand new unit with warranty and exchange privilages! Future Shop has a Canon, Panasonic, and a Sony all for under $450 regular price, and they will price match if you find a better deal which shouldn\'t be hard. At least this way if you buy one and don\'t like it, you can take it back and swap for another unit or get a full refund!

I\'ve been shooting DV for a long time. Personally I would go for DV because it\'s cheaper to run and the quality is top notch. Editing is also very good because you have raw avi dumps unlike HDD cams which use compression and you will progressively lose quality when you do generation of edits.

BTW, you can always recover the cost if you so happen to sell the pron you make. Think of it as an investment. ;)

Thx. HDD seems more $$$ too, so that\'s out fortunately.

So what does CCD mean? Is that the resolution of the video or the resolution of the still image? I assume a higher CCD means better quality?

Definition of CCD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charge-coupled_device)

The bigger the CCD, the more sensors can be packed onto the surface of the chip = greater resolution. Some manufactures also use 3 seperate CCDs for each colour resulting in higher accuracy.

I would suggest getting a DV cam with nightshot and some sort of \'anti-shake\' circuitry. If you have some cash left, I also highly recommend a wide angle adaptor lens. It\'s a valuable asset when filming pron. Especially on closeups and making things look bigger then they actually are. :p

I remember either XS Cargo or Millenium 3000 selling the Sony HC20 for $269! I believe the sale is still on, it might be refurb thou. The Sony HC20 is the bottom basement MiniDV model, also has NightShot for taking vids in low light. ;) ala Paris Hilton.

EDIT: Looks like they ran out of HC20 they now are selling the HC32 for $299. Its Millenium 3000, and they\'re at 310 Steelcase Rd. saw the ad in the Sun today June 16th. edition. From the looks of it, could be Sony clearing out old stock, so might be worth your while to wait for the HC40.

Conceded to eBay and bought an older model JVC GR-290U. Brand new, never used. About Cdn.$200 all in. Picked up at Keele/Hwy 7 for $5 pick up charge. I\'m sure there\'s no warranty though. Toyed with the idea of getting a brand new one, but gosh these things get obsolete so fast. 2 years from now, the DVD models will probably sell for a couple of hundred...
