I have a multi-media port (2 CAT5 and 2 RG6) in my new house and
neither the phone guys or cable guys would finish it.
can anyone help out? and advice?

for CAT5 remember the colour sequence in order from left to right on the plug side (the one you crimp):
orange/white
orange
green/white
blue
blue/white
green
brown/white
brown
If the MM port you have have the punch down blocks, punch down the wires according to the colours above, and terminate the other end in the same order.
for the RG6, it should be easy to finish, dunno why the cable guy didn\'t do it.
post a pic of the ports (front and back)...that should help in providing help :)

wow, thanks MBN
do I find all these little parts at Radio Shack? and I need to buy a crimper is that a special tool?
I\'ll post pics if I still end up doing it myself.
The only price quote I found was $95 for finishing that. U think it was worth it?

go to home depot.. you\'ll find packs of 10 or so (endings) ad crimpers.. the latter are usually 20-40bux.. so if you\'re planning on crimping in the future.. it might be better to DYI..

you\'ll need a RJ-45 crimper (http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=325570&CatId=1799) if you have to terminate the ends with connectors. The one i linked is pretty pricey, you can probably find one at a local computer store for cheaper.
if it is a wall jack, are you plugging into the RJ-45 cable? that\'s where a punch down tool will help but no necessary.
Home Depot has all the stuff you need...i don\'t think $95 is worth it...you can DIY for cheaper and you learn something in the process.

I have a crimper and a cable tester if you want to borrow it. I make ethernet cables all the time (still need to refer to my text for the colour sequence tho!), but It\'s a part of my program to know how to make them.
If you do buy a crimper, just note you get what you pay for. A $20 crimper will be good for the first few connections, but afterwards, it may not crimp like it did when it was new.
As for RJ45 jacks, you can find them at some computer stores. I know TigerDirect has them, pretty cheap too. I think it\'s like $7 for 15 jacks or something. I\'m not sure on the price, but i do remember that they were among the lowest price. Electronics stores (I mean the hardcore ones, not bestbuy or radio shack) should also carry them.

Oh, and what\'s an RJ45 jack? is that the one that I described? with two CAT5 on top
and two RG6 underneath?
Thanks for all the help guys.
Oh yeah, I\'m still not sure if i\'m gonna go and buy all the tools \'cause
This is the only room that needs to be completed. All the other regular
phone and cable jacks are finished.
Ray
EDIT:
I majoogled RJ45, and yeah, i\'ll need a couple of those (Just two really..... I think)

There are jacks from Home Despot where you just pop the wires into slots using the little key they provide. Very easy!!! So easy that I could even do it!
