Veteran centre Michael Peca is set to take over Eric Lindros\' locker in the Maple Leafs dressing room.

The 32-year old Toronto native has agreed to a one-year deal worth $2.5-million US.

“Obviously, being a Toronto kid goes without saying how big this is, but it goes deeper than that,” Peca said today during a news conference. “My willingness to play in Toronto goes beyond being from Toronto, it’s recognizing an organization that prides itself on wanting to win, and really taking every step necessary where they see fit to try to provide that for the fans.”

It should be a good team this year...of course that\'s what we all said last year! However, last year was the first year of the \"New NHL\" so for some teams it was a learning year. I\'m keeping my fingers crossed and hope that the Leafs at the very least make the Playoffs this year.

I like Mike Peca. We needed a small, versatile, checking forward with a little bit of talent and who has a lot of leadership...a Doug Gilmour type player. It\'s funny that Peca is going to wear Darryl Sittler\'s number and not the \"37\" he wore last year in Edmonton. The defense has improved, although I think we still have Aki Berg :(, but with more size on the Blue Line with the addition of Hall Gill and Pavel Kubina we won\'t be loosing too many battles in front of our net. Hopefully there\'s still room in the budget to sign one more veteran forward.

Let\'s cross our fingers.
