So, some 85 yr old women rear ended me whilst I was stationery in traffic on the QEW.
She must been doing about 30-40kmh and bang, right up my backside.
Quote from the cop, \"she seems out of it to me....!\"
Gonna go take some photo\'s now, I\'ll post up later.

Old people really need to be tested every year..
Nothing against the driving skill of old people but their motor skills and vision deteriorate over time. Reaction time slows and etc...
It wouldn\'t be that much of a hassle for them either, it\'s not like they\'ve anything better to do.
It would be alot safer for all of us.

OK, questions for all.
Anyone heard of Prochilo Bros. Auto Collision in Scarborough? The tow truck guy recommended them (obviousely gets a kick-back, but whatever) If so, good or bad?
Alternatively, should I take it to MoT to get the work done by a \"proper\" place?
Does it look like it may get written off?
I got a Ford Taurus as a rental, it was waiting for me at the body-shop, the tow truck guy called ahead and sorted it out (probably gets a kick-back here too....!)
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks all.

Just have them give you an estimate. you DON\'T have to get it fixed there!!!
Get at least 3 Quotes. Insurance?? Looks like it will cost a shit-load of money to fix :(
Good thing is your Bumper is untouched. Look at it...not even scratched... Lol Good to know when someone drives into a 3 they actually drive over it :)
.. Why was your car towed?? It looks driveable...if you can drive it, you don\'t need a tow! Just rip of the back bumper cover...bend out the wheel well a bit.. done.. drive anywhere and get an estimate

Since it\'s going through insurance, get it done right. I wouldn\'t go through the independent garage recommended by the tow operator.
I don\'t think you need to get three quotes. As long as your insurance company doesn\'t have any issues with the shop, you can get it done there.

The bumper is fine... just the cover is F**ked. I guess the problem would be the brake lights not working :( But if they work... why not drive it somewhere else.
A pick-up just has a piece of steel on the back.
As for the cop... try and talk to him directly. Talk to him and ask why there was nothing on the report about *Her* hitting *You*!
and yes. Glad there were no serious injuries... unless your neck starts to hurt...and your back is all buggered... You could Sue .. get lots of cash.. and get a BMW :)

Most Mazda dealers don\'t do paint and collision work onsite as they outsource this work. Not a great idea and inconsistent results.
Take it to Allcar Auto Body in Weston and ask for Saher at 416-244-3710. Tell him Steve told you to call him. These guys do AMAZING work, they are not cheap but do the work right the first time with OEM parts. They do all Kodak Canada\'s fleet as well as numerous lease fleet companies. These companies all insist on Allcar to do any collision work on their fleet vehicles. I let them do my baby (not the 3 - see my sig) and right now they are working on some awesome vehicles as well as collision stuff. If you love your car - see these guys, they do meticulous detail and great paint.

Yikes... trust me; I feel your pain. I was in a hit and run accident and the damage looked *similar* to yours but I was hit on an angel. Anyways, just to give you a heads up my damages were around $6500 :(
The tow trucks showed up first before the cops. LOL Anyways I actually called ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE because it was FREE and my insurance company wouldnt have to cover the cost of a tow truck. I had towed to a Mazda dealership local to me (Mountain Mazda) and they have a body shop they deal with which I trust their work (and they turned out to be AWESOME I would recommend them to anyone but they are in Hamilton - D\'Angelo\'s). Anyways...
Its gonna be a long journey now; and I am pretty sure they will not write it off. We thought my car was gone FOR SURE but there was no frame/suspension damage so they ok\'d the work.
Good luck with everything. Keep us posted.

Just talked to Santo at Prochilo Bros. They belong to the \"Certified First Network\" whatever that is. He made it sound rather fancy though, so I have high hopes for this bodyshop.
He roughly quoted at around $4-$6k damage, but didn\'t notice the front end damage so that may well go up.
He seemed to think it was all bodywork, but will need to check further to be sure, just waiting on the call from Meloche Monex now.....

Make sure they (the body shop or your insurance company) give you a warranty on the work. I remember on my previous vehicle after a front end collision, I noticed some condensation in my headlight. I took the car to the dealership to have them look at it and they reported back to me that the body shop had resealed the headlight instead of replacing it. I asked the service rep for a written report outlining the problem and the cause of the problem. I immediately called my insurance company who eventually authorized a replacement of the headlight housing.
Just remember, eventhough the insurance company will do everything in their power to put you back on the road, they aren\'t above trying to save a few bucks in the meantime.

Anyone heard of East York Auto Electric @ Donlands and Cosburn. That\'s my nearest preferred shop for Meloche Monex. If I use a \"preferred\" shop, the work is waranteed for all long as I own the car and have Meloche as my insurer.
However, if I take it to MoT, it\'s covered by them for how long? Anyone know?
bluntman
07-24-2006, 03:39 PM
\"Preferred\" just means that the shop will give the insurance company a good deal (discount) on the repair. It doesn\'t necessarily guarantee the quality of the repair. If you take it to a repair shop that isn\'t on their list, the insurance company will first ask for a quote from the repair shop. If the quote is too high, they may reject it and tell you to look for another shop and get another quote...extending the time you are without your car.

Wow, this hit involves structural damage since the rear hatch is designed to reinforce the unibody, and it pushed the hatch frame into the rest of body a frame realignment is definitely required otherwise you will have thrust line issue down the road, not to mention tire wear and control issues. Make sure the body shop you choose have up-to-date frame alignment tools like laser guided frame pulley (I think this is what the tool is called)...etc.
My best advice is to get rid of the car after it\'s repaired and get a new 3. You\'ll lose out on depreciation but will avoid tons of headache further down the road, trust me! because I been in similar case but had held on to the car, which I regretted!

Bring it out to a meet soon. I\'ll bring my dad\'s Oldsmobile Delta 88 for some \"adjustments\" to your car. Should then be able to get that sucka written off no problem.

Just talked to KAC, they are finally starting work on my car.....woo-hoo
All I can say is that Meloche Monex are seriously lacking in the speedy turn-around department.
It took them 10 days to actually send out an adjuster, when they did, he went to the wrong garage...!:sarc
Finally they sorted out their shite, and sent the guy to KAC, but failed to ring ahead, so the car wasn\'t prepped for inspection...! :sarc
I can only assume they managed to get the guy there again, because I just rang KAC and was informed by Dominic (and NOT my insurance company) that they are working on my car now. He had just finished ordering the Mazda OEM parts needed (rear bumper, tailgate, right qtr. panel) everything else can be repaired.
Oh, and he also told me that my insurance probably won\'t cover the front end damage, because Meloche deems that I was too close to the car in front of me. The fact that someone hit me a 40kph doesn\'t appear to have enough force to move me into the guy in front...! :sarc
Just to clarify, KAC appear to be doing a great job (and are on the ball), Meloche Monex are tardy and I ain\'t too impressed.
Did I mention that Meloche are trying to get a $1,000 deductible out of me? Seems it WAS my fault the stoned old women hit me...! :sarc :(

Welcome home.
Meloche Monnex was awesome when our SUV was rear-ended two years ago. I can\'t recall specifics, but I think we were up and running within 10 days. We had serious damage, but not as much as you. Of course, you can\'t discount the fact that once they see \"WUD, The\" on the policy, they get their arses in gear or there\'s gonna be hella to paya.

Glad to see you got your ride back SourcE. I noticed you\'re selling off some parts, are you gonna be getting rid of it now?

Wow, the shop looks like it did a great job! The lines look nice and straight. Colour matches. Signs of a good fix! Even your Axela badge was saved! (or did you buy a new one?)
:D

Yup, she\'s a gonna.....
Were probably gonna get an \"ahem\"......Subaru Legacy Wagon (GT dependant on the price ;))
There doesn\'t really seem to be a Mazda that can match the size, the 5 Sport Wagon comes close, but the outstanding safety record and reliabilty of the boxer engine are both playing a large part.
If anyone is interested in buying her, she\'s on Autotrader (listing pending) and HERE (www.gymolympics.com)
Hopefully you will all let me still visit TM3, if for nothin else than to flame Broli...:p
