View Full Version : How to convince friend to get a 3 instead of a 4wd Matrix?

My friend, more like his parents want to get a matrix. Probably the base 4wd model with automatic.
For that price, you probably get like a GS or a Sport GS.
I mean I wouldn\'t get that for the shear reason it\'s a corolla in disguise.
even if he got the new civic, it would be alot better than the matrix non?

Start listing reasons. GO!

1.)The Matrix looks like a small van.

2.)It\'s not a Mazda.

3.)It\'s not a 3.

reason number 1 is good.
reason number 2 won\'t convince anyone that hasn\'t owned a mazda
reason number 3 won\'t convince anyone that hasn\'t even tested a 3.

What are the parent\'s driving? I\'m assuming Toyota?

lol.. yes.. they have a sienna..
So I assume, they are going to keep the sienna and the matrix will be for my friend to get to school with?

Matrix accelerates noticeably slower than the 3, unless they are planning to get the XRS.
In my opinion the ride is harsher and it doesn\'t handle as well. Also suffers more under crosswinds at highways speeds.

I believe they want an automatic 4wd model
The XRS is only avaliable in 6spd and FWD.

The Matrix has gone thru only little facelifts/changes since it came out @ 2001, so why invest a close amount of money (compared with the 3) on buying a nearly 6 yrs old model? especially the performance of Matrix rely on technologies from 6 yrs ago?

2.) Comprehensive Warranty is 20,000km longer than Toyotas 36/60000

Used 2006 Toyota Matrix XR vr 2006 Mazda3 GT for purpose of comparison

Best to test drive both and decide.

Tell him that if he buys a Matrix and shows up at a TM3 meet, he\'ll get his ass kicked and his car stripped for parts. :D

You did your part. If it ultimately does come down to his decision rather than his parents, you did your job. Whatever he does decide on, after listening to his rants (if there are any) just say, \'I told you so...\' /sigh
:p

Maybe you are right.
If he\'s happy with it.. I should let him be..

*thanks for all the responses*

Can\'t go wrong with the Matrix. Solid, reliable car. Personally, I think they\'re not as attractive as the Mz3 and they are definitely slower, but I think they are bulletproof and resale\'s going to be great. AWD fuel economy is not as good as the FWD, but it\'s REALLY excellent already, so that shouldn\'t be a big factor.

There\'s a reason why Toyota will overtake GM as the No. 1 car maker in a few years. It\'s because they make a great product.

lol

just show him a pictuer of the matrix. that should do the trick, if not then he has no hope.

btw the awd matrix is SLOWWWWWWWW and the awd system on the matrix is SHIITTTTTTT, frotn wheel drive is better.

however the matrix is more roomier.

Bring your friend out to a TM3 meet. That\'s all the convincing he\'ll need.

Personally I\'d almost bought the Matrix before the 3. That is until I test drove one.
1. It drives like a van. Seating position too.
2. The engine sounds like WUD\'s WASPS
3. Interior is inferior when comparing to the 3\'s
4. Richmond Hill Toyota is a piece of sh!t dealer. My other car is a Camry.
5. Pontiac Vibe

If they drive both, the decision will be very easy to make. :D

Personally I\'d rather they just buy the Matrix.....we don\'t need any more 3\'s on the road IMO. Is your friend and his family a idiot(s)? If not, which I hope is the case, then let them buy whichever car suits their needs and they like most. The reality is both are very good cars but very different cars. If they are doing their due dilligence they would explore all possible vehicles that meet their criteria. If not, then they\'ve likely already made up their minds.

I think they\'ve already made up their minds.. I gave my friend Jeff\'s card.. I don\'t think they are even going to go in and look at the car.

Their mind is made up! Oh well.

Thanks again guys.

1: The gas mileage on the Matrix is far superior than the crappy mileage with the mazda 3..
