not by me, but by the owner of www.boytoys.ca:
I am from Mississauga. I took delivery of a Mazda 5 GT on Aug 1st.
Here is my experience and journey to become a proud Mazda owner.
I joined the original Mazda.ca 5 forum 2 years ago. So i knew everything about the car more than any salesman, I followed at least 5 other car forums, knew of its problems and issues. I have to wait for my Honda Element to be lease taken over before i can take the shot. I also have connections to 2 dealers (one being a principal dealers\' daughter referral, one being a supplier\'s friend in Muskoka)...I also went to Ontario Mazda twice (in Feb with 4 month pregnant Wife and 6 year old daugther, now u know why i have to drop the Element, which was sold in May). Our family was using one car since, labour, baby carriage all in a sedan. I was planning to purchase as soon as wife and new born is recovering well.
Toronto Mazda, we communicated over the phone and he acknowledged that I was referred by dealer principal. The sales manager however did not want to give me a price over the phone (despite the fact that I taught his principal\'s daughter junior robotics). He insist to give me a price once i am the showroom. That\'s a deal breaker. He lost his business for ignoring the fact that, smart customers nowadays does not need even a test drive. I told himi I run a full time retail store and have no time for this plus my wife is 7 months pregnant. We know what we want...well...!!
Ontario Mazda, The assistant sales manager (which he was kind, and has a in stock, after recalled DEMO for wife and i to test drive). We communicated via internet and he swore he gave me a great price which i was led to believe. I went back recently again and ask for availability and time to delivery. I want to get the 5 before school starts. and they don\'t have the color or trim that my wife like in stock. So i ask for the best price again and he showered me with a series of numbers and punched a few screens and i got a number. So I told him I will go back to talk to my wife. He says he can only lowered some more by taking the glass etching, lugnuts, out.. I told him cya.
Prima Mazda, i called to find out about an advertised DEMO with 4000 km. spoke to an ALAN (he says he is the sales manager) and i asked if the car is still available. Reason going for a demo is thinking i may save some PDE and costs associated with depreciation. I had in my mind a firm offer price if the car is good. So our whole family of 5, mom, 6 yr old, 6 weeks old, and wife set off to go see the DEMO. Alan was busy and a sales person approach me and i told him i am here to see a DEMO 5. He kindly accept this request. As it turns out, it has 5500km and was definitely a company ride as it smells and imho not ready for sale. We didnt\'t need even a test drive. They advertised to draw traffic, this didn\'t bother us as we were dead set that we should wait for 2007. So as we intend to leave, i said to myself, what the heck, let me ask for a quote. I then told the same salesman to give me a best price. To my surprise, no games, he pulled a number that is already $800 lower. So I thought i still have room. They have the color and trim for the 5 that we want in the showroom - we are looking at it. In my mind, i know what my baseline, i offered a firm price. He went to his manager, come back with a rounded number and i say no, i am leaving. He asked us to stay a bit, at this point, baby was crying, cranky, wife was already patient as she knew we are working on a family hauler for the next 5-8 years. When he comes down, he says i was tough but gladly accept our offer. My experience from the first phone calls to Alan was pleasant, the salesman approaching me got my business as he knew that i know enough. I had strollers brought in, wife, mother, 6 year old daugther. I aint just window shopping. I didn\'t even test drove any of his cars and he got my business.
Now as to the request for pricing over the phone, i still don\'t understand why some sales manager (no matter how senior or experienced) do not want to give a quote. It\'s not as if he has to talk over 30 minutes or 2 hours about the benefit of this car vs another brand. Customers (nowadays) are already informed. I own a retail hobby store and i deal with customers on a daily basis on price matching, online, and i know exactly the frustration on some price shoppers. But heck, if you don\'t give me a price, you will never have a chance and i hope Toronto Mazda is watching this thread.
Also there were no high pressure sales at all for Extended Warranty, Rustproofing or Tinting. My 5 GT was pretty barebone (comes with lugnuts, glass etching)
