Today\'s my Mazda 3\'s 1st bday...

Here are the detailed stats about gas consumption... anyone else have something similar?? How does this car compare to the rest??

Link to the excel file (http://individual.utoronto.ca/baniski/mazda3_gas_record.xls)

Cheers!

barely 20MPG.... yup, that\'s the crappy mileage we get... so much for 32 city and 41 hwy.

IF! You would have got approx 30mpg... you would have used about 600 L less fuel!!!! And saved $600+..... oh welll....

Why are you using 91 octane? Is your car boosted?

I have a Mazda 3 GT as well, and my gas consumptions seems better then that.
I get around 500 - 550km before the light comes on, depending on how I drive.
I dunno how many mpg that is though.

My wife and I just returned from Orillia and with mostly highway driving (we did get stuck behind a couple of accidents on the 400) we put 340km on the car and the gas needle was not even at the halfway point (close, but not there yet).

Do you do all city driving?

Nothing is boosted... however, in the 1-2 times I put 87 and 89 octane, I noticed the car runs a lot smoother with 91 octane... Pulls better (accelerates faster and smoother), and the sound of the engine is different...

Talked to the people at the dealership, and they say if I don\'t mind the extra 11 cents/L, I can use 91 octane and it won\'t do damage to anything in the car what-so-ever...

Yeah, it won\'t do any damage nor would it improve your performance in any way. But if that makes you happy!

placebo effect.

unless you\'ve advanced the timimg or boosted, you\'re pissing your money away. the higher the octane, the harder to ignite...if the engine wasn\'t designed for high octane stock, it won\'t benefit from it.

I did the Advanced timing mod and tried putting in 89 octane, for a few days it seems like the car is faster. But now I want to put it back to normal, cause with the high gas prices I\'ve just been putting in 87. And I\'m kinda afraid of KNOCK so I don\'t even drive the car past 5500rpms.
But ya, it\'s probably a placebo effect.

I made a new discovery the past weekish. My car has better milage in the city!! I have the 4spd auto. So how you ask? Well in town I keep my foot light on the throttle and never let it get past 2500rpm. While on the highway I can\'t do less than 120, traffic flows at 120 therefore I must \'flow\'. Its seems that at 120 and above the car get poor highway milage, the fact that I don\'t have a 5th gear also doesn\'t help.

That was my 2 cents.

Oh yea, go back to regular fuel!!

-usually: 500 - 550 km a tank

-sometimes: 600km a tank

-never: EPA :p
