a few threads crept up lately and they are just asking for this question:
How do you allocate your mod money? How much is too much? When does your wifey put an end to it? (speaking strictly to WUD here) :)
seems like some of the people here mod.. re-mod.. and mod again.. i often read \"yah i\'m saving up for ....\" are you saving up for anything else? school? vacation? house? retirement.. are you just spending say 10% of your paycheque on mods? i know modding can be an addiction and you just want that last mod and it turns into second last and 3rd last :p how much have you spent in total on the 3? is there a point where you say \"shit.. with all that cash i could have gotten the GT or a more upscale car\" as TheProf said.. also.. why ask what mod you should do next? isn\'t it what would make YOU happy? what would fit the bill? anyway.. i\'m just wondering .. that\'s all.. don\'t get me wrong.. i mean some of the 3s are done properly.. and look VERY nice.. and i wish i had more $ so i would just get the speed :D heh..

When I first got my 3, I said \"I will not do any Modification what so ever\".
Now, It\'s like an addiction. 1st Mod, 2nd Mod and so on . . . . . . .and still Modding/Spending $$$. ;)

Back when I was in my early 20\'s and I had my turbo civic I dropped nearly every spare penny on my car. At the time it was all I cared about. I calculated it back then that on top of the purchase price of the car, I had at least an extra $15K in parts on the car. At the time I thought it was all worth it but in hindsight I\'m kicking myself. Thankfully I was able to part out the car and recover most of my money, but I did take a hit (about $2.5K).
I think dropping money on your car is fine (providing it isn\'t putting you into debt) if that\'s what you enjoy more then anything else. For me, my preferences have changed over the past years to the following:
1) The wife....gotta treat her right
2) The condo/home....way rather come home to our own place then ride around in a nice car and live with mommy and daddy
3) Vacationing/travelling....when I\'m old I want to be able to say that I\'ve seen the world. I doubt I\'ll care so much about whether or not my Mazda3 had HID\'s.
4) Family....I have no problem dropping coin for family and often do
5) Home stereo/theatre....no explanation needed
6) Modding the car
So yeah, if I\'m satisfied with 1-5 and there\'s some money left over after bills and whatnot then sure, I\'d mod my car.

i have an addiction i think!
i do think i spend to much on modding
however, i have little expenses now,
other than tuition, and the car
and no wife, when i have a gf, she
tells me to stop spending and i tell her
to stop talking! lol
people often ask me at meets, where i get the cash to mod,
A - i get a stipend to go to school, and i work on the weekends
so, i think it is ok, to spend my money where it makes me happy
hell, i have to work hard for it!
p.s. i refuse to calculate how much i have spent!
lol

Lets see...
Some people drink, some gamble, some do drugs, some mod, some do all four.
I rarely spend on myself, but I can\'t help but mod, all show, no go.

You\'ve been on a blitz lately.....I assume it\'s all in preparation of MOM?

Funny part is that I now have my lenses open, parts being painted, HIDs on my work bench beside a set of Angel Eyes, 8 Blue LED bars, 10 single blue LEDs and no time to even wash my car before MOM...
SO sad.

I don\'t put a dollar value to the mods, but rather a timeframe. I told myself that I would do all of my mods within the first year of ownership. Well, the soon because the first 2.5 years of ownership. I can finally say that I am done.

Well the 3\'s my first car, i\'m nearing the end of modding my car. Rims, drop and tint left to do. I\'m in no rush for any of them. Gotta finish modding the house first(basement, deck, front landscaping).
I guess i\'m a bit ahead when i choose to get the 2.0, why bother doing engine mods.
I sold my liver and now I want it back. Stupid car mods ... :p
I\'m done. I\'m always tempted to lower but at age 27 with a gf of 4+ yrs, it\'s time for me keep my priorities straight. ;)
That and I don\'t exactly make a lot ... yet. :D

Well my car is still new, and although, there are lots of things I\'d like to do to the car, I\'m trying to exercise some self control right now.
I was doing well contributing to investments before deciding to buy a car. Now that I\'m sorta trying to get back on track to contributing, it reminds me what a poor investment a car is.
So now I\'ll limit myself a bit, and spread the mods out, so that I can do one every few months maybe, and still contribute to my financial assets.
Also, as summer runs it\'s course, I guess a GB on winter tires will be imminent, so trying to factor that cost into everything.
But then, so far have only done cheap small cosmetic changes.
Heh, I do get a lot of people staring at my wheels when I\'m stopped at a light or traffic to look at my calipers. Got some nods of approval. Also, one guy walking buy just said, \"nice car when I was parked at ashbridges a few weeks ago.\" Feels good to hear that considering the billion billion 3s on the road these days. ;)

She just did. All I needed to do last was an exhaust. I mean a lousy 800 bux and I would\'ve been done. Should\'ve blown the money all at once and then get crap for it all at once. Less painful that way, right?
And fack you majic for calling it. It\'s true, but fack you nonetheless.

It\'s not like people are dropping huge amounts of money on modding their cars. I\'m guessing a couple thousand on top of the price of $25k car is not that much when you think of it. For around $2k you can get some new wheels, tint, springs and a few other mods and most people would be happy.
I mean like the Biz said some people spend their money on things and don\'t even have anything to show for it. I\'m sure I\'ve dropped $2k on booze along the way (not all at once!) and all I\'ve gotten are hangovers and nights I don\'t remember for it!
It\'s not like a couple thousand dollars can buy me a house anytime soon, especially with the market the way it is right now. So I figure might as well use it in a way that makes me happy, be it car mods, drinking, golf etc.

That\'s the main point. Everyone has their own pleasures. (shaddap)

Well I don\'t smoke, do\'nt drink, do\'nt gamble. But I guess i didn\'t pay for the car and half of the mods on my car. I know i spent quite a few on my car and I\'m already thinking, with all those money i can get a bigger tv in the room or a nice stereo etc. But I guess a few of us wants to go thru this point when we regret spending all those cash.

maybe there are others who see it this way but take the $2000 and decrease your mortgage by that much
from TD.ca website.. \"For a mortgage of $2,000.00 at an interest rate of 5.000%*, amortized
over 20 years, your monthly payment is approximately $13.15.\" that\'s $980-$1150 in interest you\'re paying.. all of the sudden your 2K turns into 3K not to mention what you could do with it if you invested it wisely.. the $2000 after 5yrs at a low 5% growth will get you to over $2500.. anyway.. enough with the savings.. lets mod :)

I\'d love to do some significant mods but to be honest whenever I come across some money (ie income tax refund etc) I throw it into the mortgage. For those of us who own homes, it becomes the single biggest investment we will ever own. And as majic so clearly identified I want to give the banks as little of my money as possible. In practical terms the return you get on a home far outweighs the benefits of any mods on a car.
As others have pointed out it all boils down to your priorities and what makes you happy. If you can balance both then I think you\'re doing well. Being married you end up thinking for two and not just yourself. Would buying a sway bar benefit my wife? Not really. But by the same token my wife buying so many pairs of shoes doesn’t really benefit me now does it?
Word to the wise. Never get into an argument where you equate your need to modify your whip as equivalent to, or just as important as your significant others shoe fetish. YOU CAN’T WIN. You’d have a better shot at getting peace in the Middele East. Having said that, I love my car and I love to show her off. But I love the notion that my testicles are to remain attached to my body and not in the hands of a wife on a tirade.

Some ppl just prefer to live for today. They have this fear of dying some day in the near future thus they gotta just live their life to the fullest and do whatever they can at present instead of thinking or caring about the future. Meah ...
* orders turbo kit + body kit + rims + tires + garage lift + lasik + penis enlargement ... whoops *

i see things like this!
do the things u want to do (within reason)
while ur young enough to want to do them,
that way u won\'t regret it later,
when the day comes that i get married
i am damn sure my modding days will be over!
and my testicles will be in the hands of Cardi\'s wife (hehehe, its a thinker)
right beside his!
