WOW!!!! What a great event! I had an amazing time, good to see so many Mazda\'s out today. 150+ cars? Must have been. Great turnout, even though the weather was a bit sketchy in the morning (thanks for the jacket Sicsol!). Nothing that a coffee cant cure though, right Chuckie?
I have about 30 or 40 photos I need to upload.
Also... the video of the cruise (thanks for your help m-g-m!)... It\'s on my computer and I am in the process of the adding the soundtrack. However, send in your suggestions as I have a somewhat limited collection available right now.
Cheers!

Broli forgot to wear his tm3 shirt! FOR SHAME!:sarc
Great cruise home!
Great dinner conversations and aftermaths......:sarc
Broli was playing the spoons! And the waiter had to take them away cause they got ANNOYING!
Great turnout!
Not so great weather.
The barbeque was amusing! BUT we were smart!

First of all I have to say Nice to meet everyone in person :D
Second of all great turn out today, mazda 3\'s most definatly ruled the roads....don\'t think much of any group can beat a 2 block long convoy of cars:hoho :D
I had a great time today and can\'t wait to do it next year!
I also took quite a few pictures and I can\'t wait to see the video.
Great times had today and luckily no rain....and who can forget that dinner.....LMAO we had broli on the spoons, which the waiter \"peaches\" took away from him and we had bubbles with the laughing snort and the famous \"fire in the hole\" by teambedlam followed by sound effects and then methodyst with the most funniest line of the day \"I Can\'t Pee\" followed by me with \"courtesy flush would be nice\" Teambedlam \" uh oh yeah just a sec\" OMG so funny!!!
Thanks everyone for a great day glad to meet you all in person and look forward to doing this again :D

I think it was a good meet. Great turnout from all clubs, especially ours. We have to give ourselves a pat on the back so to speak. From 17 last year to 40+ this year!
My expectations were pretty high compared to last year. Bruce Mills I think was a better location because it was a park and it was a cozier atmosphere. Not to mention we had plenty of sun last year.

Methodyst won best 3
Had fun, weather was a downer but atleast no rain. I think the MOM events should stay in a park ground or something, it makes it more of a family event. None the less we all know that its not easy to plan something like this and still give the RX guys a salute for pulling off another MOM event. Weather is always the wild card and well it was good enough to not ruin the event, people did leave early because of the breeze and it was becoming a long day.
Let\'s see where this event ends up next year!

It was a nice turnout. Even TheBiz managed to show up!
My highlights:
1. Seeing Mazda Kittens new rims. Hope all the trouble was worth it. They looked great.
2. Saw my \"twins\" car. Loved the rims and reverse camera you installed.
3. Watching S.F.W. in deep concentration while playing Broi\'s video game.
4. Coming up with reasons as to how mit-gee-mui got that stamp on her face.
5. Seeing some older guy with the Silver Mazda 3 Sedan who badged every inch of his car both inside and out with “Mazda3†vinyl stickers and “do it your-self†pin striping.
6. Constantly having to come up with reasons as to why I wore blue shoes.
7. Wondering how it was possible none of the Mazda 3\'s got hit by the birds flying overhead.
Great seeing everyone again. Best turnout yet in my opinion.

Definitly a great turnout. Ahhh to be up in the morning at 5:30 washing the car and not even being able to see it hehe.
I gotta say my favorite parts were the cruises, all 3 :p or 4 if you count the one to dinner where Broli led all of us on a wild goose chase through a parking lot...and speaking of a parking lot how about the 401 on the way back home hehe.
The meet was great, props to Pat on his win, its all in the details right chief?
I\'ll try an post a few pics tonight, and I can\'t wait to see the video. I\'ve got no recommends on songs, but if possible could you post the straight up footage or part of it? I\'d like to edit my own version too :)

Did anyone think it SUK\'D compared to last years???
I DO.
S.F.W.
08-21-2006, 10:27 PM
it would have been nice to have had it in a park again. However, I think the RX group was even more challenged than we were for sponsorship. Due to Mazda Canada\'s they weren\'t supposed to have any dealerships directly sponsoring the event. As a result, it is a challenge to get cash to put into the event.
Also, an Organizing committe(2-3 ppl per club). I\'m sure they could use your ideas.

Well I have nothing to compare it to, however, I\'m kinda annoyed with a few things:
1. The Mazda Canada Head Honcho took off so quickly. I wanted to gab at him for a few minutes and instead he ghosted. IMO, a lame show of support for the 200+ people that have invested their time and money in modding his cars.
2. The \"No other dealer can sponsor\" rule. Stupid, stupid, stupid, not to mention very poor dealer support. Dealers are the money makers for HQ, and this rule spits in the face of the hard work that dealerships do. We all lost out on winning some cool stuff because of it. No offense, but a Mazda cooler bag just doesn\'t cut it, and I think that the prizes for winning best whatever were kinda crappy too (the turbo timer was neat though). But on the other hand, it was nice that companies donated, even if the donator didn\'t show up or didn\'t give what they said they would, IIRC.
3. The idiot that kept revving the engine in his RX-7 drag car.
That\'s all I can think of for now. I like SFW\'s idea of an organizing committee it would make the experience a hell of alot better, instead of having one club do all the work and bear the brunt of the workload.
Best part: Removing Broli\'s side markers and stubby. :D Notice how we started going for my car first to see if I took it... you bstd! LOL
There\'s been alot of mixed reviews concerning the event, but overall I can say it was a success. We needed to get Mazda Canada\'s attention and it seemed to work.
The RX club was clearly not aware of all the Mazda3\'s that would show up! You see, when ever we try to get together there might be 50 people on a list and possibly 10 show up. So we kinda assumed that would happen with the Mazda3/Protege club.... Clearly that was a huge oversight!
Finding sponsership was also a huge problem. Thankfully a few aftermarket companies came through with their promises when others bailed (or didn\'t even bother returning our calls).
Dealership involvment is always going to be an issue. Competition is always intense amoung dealerships. Mazda Canada gave us an outline and that\'s what we had to follow. There\'s room for improvement amoung Mazda Canada and it\'s dealerships. Hopefully this event will change their view.
As for location. You can\'t please everyone. You don\'t expect Mazda Canada and the other people with trailers dropping off their cars to show up at some provincial park where it\'s all gravel and dirt! These things need pavement! Which is why we ended up at this park.
Clearly the Mazda3/Protege club is all about getting together and sort of just hanging out... which is fine, but there are other people who enjoy seeing unique vehicles in 1 location.
Of all the comments I\'ve read so far there is no mention about Mazda\'s new Miata hardtop or the fact they brought out a truely rare vehicle, the Cosmo!
All I keep reading about (at least on this forum) is how you were able to setup a BBQ and what happened at dinner.
Remember the Cosmo is what set Mazda in motion. After the horrible events of that decade, having a company resurect itself and build something like the Cosmo is a huge undertaking! And to prove it by racing the little thing in a endurance race is absolutely grand!!!
Mazda would not be Mazda today if it weren\'t for their huge involvement in racing and the rotary engine! The Mazda3 might be their \"bread&butter\" car, but it\'s the Miata\'s and Rotaries that make Mazda what they are!
Just to let you know, there were no drag RX-7\'s at this event. What you heard and saw were all road racing vehicles. The 3rd gen RX-7 race car has made it\'s debut racing this year and is going through some shakedown. Next year they will be much stronger in their class. The other \"annoying\" RX-7 racecar belongs to Scarboro Mazda which also is going through some initial engine breakin before getting back on the track. Hearing these puppies fire throughout the day is always a fantastic moment! It\'s unfortunate some people think they\'re \"idiots\" for reving their engines.
You might want to consider going down to 7stock in California! You haven\'t seen a Mazda event till you\'ve gone there! Just remember to bring your ear plugs because you\'ll be hearing some of the best engine sounds this side of Formula 1!!
Lates,

I think that was the guy from Scarborough Mazda and he did that last year as well. I\'m sure there were some people who wanted to hear it but the majority of us couldn;t have care less.
And the easiest way to do that is get an enthusiest comittee between all the clubs.
I heard rumour of this, and I would say its my only suggestion to improve the event. Input from all the different clubs would be highly benificial.
Actually I have one suggestion....get the SCCA out for a short autox pilon track. 50$ gets you a lap or something like that. Then put that to charity. We\'d raise thousands!!! Better yet, lets just hold the next MOM at a track ;)
Which club was chosen by RX Club to organize MOM07?

Well ... I wanted to see how the event went this year.... I\'m glad you guys still had fun. It sucks that Mazda Canada had to do it the chince way... When LAST YEAR we had an AWESOME rep of a dealership who was always willing to help out. With another dealership who didn\'t want to sponsor but who showerd up to advertise like they did sponsor the event. (grumble)... Yes I\'m still a lil ticked with that.
Every year the meet will be different, depending on the club\'s outlook upon things. Some is more of familia, some are more for the car show.??? All in all it produces the variety to appease EVERYONE, and the diversity of the familia.
The one thing that shocked me.... Neo, the event was at Mazda Canada, at their parking lot... but you had to pay for the parking lot??? And insurance??? Dang.
I wonder who will do it next year:????
as for the RX 7 last year who did it again this year, one word. Attention... the \"hey look at me\"

08-22-2006, 12:05 PM
hey Neo
the \'bread n butter\' cars, is what allows companies to make the other ones!!
;)
there is room for both, the chillin with your club aspect and the looking at the cars aspect,
i understand that there was the semi last minute location change,
but, it cannot be that hard to find a place with a decent parking lot
near a decent grassy area with some trees and benches and what not!
this place; the grass faced a building or the street
the event was fun, i had a good time, but we are just making constructive critisism,
maybe have set times for each club to come and see the race RX-7 and not have it surprise
us everytime it turned on, it didn\'t bother me (really i was indifferent), but it did bother some people, however i suspect most were indifferent, it was minor!
why should we talk about the hardtop miata, seriously whoopdyshit!
its the same car, yeah its nice and all, we looked at it!
I think you had the feeling that all car clubs or people should have the same desires as you and your club for this event, and that assumption is incorrect, you don\'t have to be defensive, we said the event was good, and you guys did a good job, especially with what i hear was so few people!
however, I seem to recall us getting kicked out 30 minutes before the event was supposed to end!
we made plans based around that time, and they had to be altered, its minor again, but there were some people there that we hadn\'t seen in forever, or some of us had never met, that is what pissed me off about the event, the last impression was sour!
and if you wanted to know how many of us were coming, and you didn\'t want to believe the list, you shoulda posted up and asked, we have a good idea of whos showing and not showing, thats why we have two lists the sign up roll call, and then the roll call to decide who is meeting where and how we are getting there, if you sign up twice, well, your coming!
thx to the RX club for setting up this event!

I agree with all the constructive critisism, it was a great event but some things could have been done better. For one, how hard is it to get a bullhorn or something so everyone can hear the announcements etc. ;) and the voting on cars should have been streamlined (have judges instead of everyone voting or something) as it took way too long and lots of people had to leave.
In regards to the amount of 3\'s showing up, Neo, you\'ve been checking out our MOM threads so you should have gotten a rough estimate of the number of cars showing up. I arrived ahead of the 3 convoy and when asked where to park was told just find a spot next to a Protege as they\'re pretty much the same car and there will only be a handful of 3\'s showing up anyways :sarc

They were trying to find a bullhorn, noone had one.
As for the comment about only a handful of 3\'s *insert angry smilie here*

Attention... the \"hey look at me\"
No it was held at Richmond Green just north of the Mazda head office. It was originally going to be held there but plans changed.
We paid for half of the pizza but our dealer didn\'t even get any sort of mention.:sarc
BIG MAZDA 3 THANK YOU to Joe, Jeff and MOT for chipping in for pizza :D :D :D Three Cheers!:D
also a thanks to Joe, Joe\'s family and Chuckie for getting tim hotons :D

I\'m surprised! A young lad of your size having only three? :D
Next year will be 100+ Mazda3\'s!!!
Sorry if the previous post appeared a bit defensive. I think previous MOM organizers know how hard it is to put an event like this together.
There were a number of things that could have been improved upon, but we managed with what we got.
Good to hear everyone thinks it went well.
I\'m hoping for next year, Mazda Canada can take care of the event entirely. There were small talks of them getting it together for the ALMS race at Mosport in September. Hopefully get some track time too! That would be off the hook!!
The reason why I was so impressed with the hardtop Miata is because I\'ve been waiting for them to make something like this! I\'ve always loved the Miata but I felt having the soft top would be no good for the winter months. Having the optional hardtop cover would be more painful because you would have to take it off for the summer months and put it back on for the winter months.
Now I can have my cake and eat it too!
The lease on the 3 is up in March 09, and I\'ll definately think of moving up to the hardtop Miata!
I\'m sorry the engine firing annoyed some of you. In truth, Al\'s car doesn\'t sound all that great and it\'s uber loud for a 2nd gen! The 3rd gen wasn\'t even as loud as his car. And yes, he does tend to show off as much as he can. You have to remember, this is a man that also owns and races a Mustang. So you know the type of character he is... lol
We\'ll see what next year holds for the people organizing the event....

Who actually started M.O.M in the first place??
I think having Mazda Canadas support for this event or future events would be awsome, having them recognize the hundreds of people in various clubs across ontario.
But...if they have any notion to *Muscle in* and make it a *Mazda* event...no dealer support or sponsors allowed... **** \'em! I feel these events are to bring together everyone and enjoy the cars and familiar faces. Make some friends perhaps and have a good time. It is not an event for suits that wear a white golf-T for one day to blow their own horn. It\'s for the PEOPLE. The CLUBS.
M.O.M IS NOT a CORPORATE EVENT!!!
Mazda can start their own little car show...
I was saddened to see that Lame Ass Dave Wood Mazda there. Ohhhh.. I have some pretty race cars... Ahhh! But my dealership sux and my Service Dept. eats Ass.... Crash and Burn DWM!!!
well I understand M.O.M \'04 was a good time. M.O.M \'05 set the standard I believe:sarc
Who\'s doing M.O.M \'07.
Did the RX club do burnouts again on the way out??
Miataphiles (if not another Miata club?) has the reigns for MOM\'07
EDIT: Ah yes, MOM\'05 with a white hatch taking first and a blue hatch taking second in the mazda3 category haha

Ok.... as one of the organizers of MOM... and am sure Ami, Warren & Kev can definately agree... it was a BEEE Atch ... thought it was AWESOME. I can always agree with the fact that you gotta always work with what you got. (laugh) Considering, TECHNICALLY, besides renting the grounds, we did it in 3 weeks (due to some unexpected things).
I think perhaps this is the thought that perhaps we get more support from ACTUAL dealerships rather than Head office too. As for MOT... you guys are ALWAYS supporting the familia... and as always Jeff and Joe... you guys are ALWAYS AWESOME... and Jeff knows I\'ll probably keep supporting and following him wherever he goes.
We need support from the people who UNDERSTAND, who are willing to help support US. So maybe we should leave Mazda Canada out of it? Why is that you guys moved to the park? I\'m just wondering... and perhaps calculating how much did Mazda Canada put into this??? Wondering is it really worth it??? Or perhaps we can acheive more support from our dealerships. Considering how much that they\'re still willing to support... and not even get kudos for what they did over the weekend. Why play by the rules when we are STRONG enough to be on our own and have our very OWN rules???
I mean TECHNICALLY speaking. MOM is about familia.... to show and shine... to have that \"Awe\"... to be amongst those who make us happy. And though Mazda Canada is the head corporation.... who are the people that really support us, who are the people who really keep us going? It\'s the dealerships. And we should be proud and celebrate them & and give them as much promotion for all the support we\'ve been given, rather than promoting Mazda Canada, for them to just give us their name??? I may have not been there, but from my understanding of what I\'ve been hearing... technically, they didn\'t do much... when the original plan was to have access to use their parking lot (when that would have saved MOM a lot of money)....
I dunno just a thought. I know that it\'s a hard job... and every year there will always be a learning lesson for everyone that pulls it off. And for you guys being just able to pull it off.. that already is a success! and you are commended for that!!!
I just think that if this is a familia event... we should be doing what is best for us, and those who support us. And it doesn\'t necessarily mean going to the head honchos...
Oh and FYI for you Neo on the one who gave this info :
\"I\'m hoping for next year, Mazda Canada can take care of the event entirely. There were small talks of them getting it together for the ALMS race at Mosport in September. Hopefully get some track time too! That would be off the hook!!\"
Be weary of that.... I think I know who actually said that; and it was said last year to me also... which is I think is a crock. ... It was said to me exactly in that same context pretty much... but this dealer didn\'t want to spnsor any money... but wanted to be a Vendor at the event... who we declined... who then came anyway; who attempted to make loud noises and attract people to give out MAzda Canada left over merchandise... all the while we had a wonderful sponsor, who had made the event even possible, who helped us with EVERYTHING.
Yes I\'m still bitter... and I think it\'s corporate slime, and just unethical.

Justin... where the heck is that vid??? I cant really comment on MOM too much.. I thought it was a good time for me at least. Getting to finallu put some faces to names and eat a few sunflower seeds and well... get made fun of by meth for not eating an orange right away...(he had nothing) ;). I would hope and like to see future MOM\'s have both mazda and aftermarket representation. Would be nice to see some parts for the M3 and other mazdas there and able to be bought. Would be nice to see mazda actually bring some MS parts as well... so i could see what im spending all my money on. I cant see this as being too much trouble to add to existing framwork of MOM 06... A few phone calls and maybe a few more, but nothing too big. Im sure it would work out to be beneficial to both sellers and buyers.:D
Saphress,
You have every reason to be upset with the events that happened in last year\'s MOM event. For that I appologize.
I\'ve gotten alot of vehicles through Avante so they know my family and myself by first name bases.
Having dealerships involved is a mixed review. Afterall, dealerships are constantly in competition with each other. Not all dealerships are as easy going as Avante is. There are some questionable people who operate the other dealerships. Which is why Mazda Canada told us not to promote any specific dealerships.
Of course that didn\'t stop them from showing up with \"sponsered\" trailers. Pretty hard to miss the Dave Wood trailer. Not to mention the Scarborough Mazda race car.
I was worried when all the trailers showed up with huge stickers on them. Avante had a lonely van, but it still had advertisement on it.
As for the questionable person who told us about the MOM event being held at Mosport, I agree with you he can\'t be taken seriously.
He wasn\'t the main person I got the info from. It was another person who mentioned it to us. I hope the deal goes through, but I\'m not holding my breath.
If it goes through, fantastic! I know alot of rotaries will show up for that. If it doesn\'t, well, you\'ll get the few hardcores who\'ll make the annual appearance.
On a side note, I was so impressed with the hardtop Miata I\'m going to Avante to see what the rates are going to be. Hopefully get myself out of the Mazda3 lease early! woohoo!!

Lates,
Neo... It has nothing to do with you, so don\'t apologise... like I said, everyone gets their learning experience... ... there\'s only one person that I\'m upset with, and well partially myself for letting that happen. It wasn\'t what I expected, and I learned from it.
I can definately see where you\'re coming from in terms of possible competition, BUT if we can find some type of guideline... or perhaps we can all be a bit more organized... I think it could honestly work. I mean, for instance... Vendor\'s at Darknights they all pay the standard fee... and they go all out for their own promotions. Can that not happen with the top three dealerships? I mean... the way I see it. There are dealerships... I\'d probably say a good three that everyone is devoted to. And they ALL are great in their own different ways. Dave Wood Mazda, I mean, who doesn\'t know them for their racing and their modifications... and how they really support that, and emphasize that. How Avante is strongly with familia, a homey kinda feeling.. which has switched over to MoT... I think it may work... ???
As for the deal... it would be a pretty sweet deal to pull off that\'s for sure. But I think I\'m a bit biased/jaded over that fact (laugh) (can you tell???) :P
(laugh) You\'re really set on the Miata.... It\'s a dang sweet car (I hope I don\'t get killed for saying that).... Good luck .... and of course, Check with Holley at MOT to see if he can do something for you!!!
