And saw a v6 mustang:chuckle that im assuming tried to 'drift' on an on ramp and spun himself 180 into a ditch HAHA

Everything is just works. If I had the money id buy a fully loaded GT hatch in a heartbeat.
The handling is something Ive never experienced in a compact car. The ride is smooth too when you arent being aggresive. The "sport button" is a nice touch but I feel all it does is shift at higher rpms. The interior is great too. Well bolstered seats... especially in the back... especially when compared to the civic ( ask greyseason about my experience in the civic :P )

Anyone know if cutting out rust on an old car can you braze new sheet metal in or should I weld. I only have a wire feed and am worried about blowing a hole through it. Its only surface rust so I could technically sand and patch but i don't know. I am only just gonna make it look nice and sell it.

Wire feed should be fine assuming the machine can be turned down enough for sheet metal? I'd imagine that's better than brazing it in.

Alright fellas, I need some proper help here. Before I make a new thread about it (if there's enough reason to), I'll ask on here.

I need to find a super lightweight set of rims. Only requirement is that they've gotta be 18s, and be able to somewhat appropriately fit a set of 235/50/18 tires.

Before anyone starts wondering, this not for me or my Mazda3.

If budget was not a restriction, what would you guys recommend? Lightest possible set you know of. Preferably readily available in the market right now.

Currently the top choice is the Volk CE28N (originals; not reps), based on my research. Coming in at around 14.something pounds per rim I believe. This is around the weight I'm looking for (obviously, if even lighter, then all the better).

It's for a student team. The car goes through a variety of different "races" and tests in a North American wide competition. Light-weighting the car is one of the biggies; thus trying to see how much weight can be saved on wheels. One of the other light-weighting projects might be going down the gutter, so if we can save a considerable amount of weight at the wheels, the budget for the other project could be thrown towards a new set of rims.

Is it formula SAE type event. Personally I would save money on rims by getting normal 15-18 pounds wheels and invest money on carbon fiber body. At least that's what we did.

It's a relatively new/unique team/competition actually. It's the Alternative Fuels Team, which competes in "EcoCar" challenges every few years, across various locations in North America. The team essentially gets a full car donated to them (in this case for this competition it's a 2013 Malibu) and the team has to convert the car to run on some alternative method than your traditional gas engine. Ethanol and electric vehicles have been done in the past. For this competition, we've got a hybrid setup. The vehicle is in it's refinement stages right now, with most of the major work already done.

One big ongoing thing is light-weighting the car though, and the big chunks of this are being done through carbon fiber body parts, and redesigning the rear subframe. The carbon fiber project started out with trunk, hood, and trailer hitch. However, due to some complications in sourcing and the rules of the competition (waivers, etc), only the trailer hitch is likely to be implemented. As for the rear subframe redesign to make it more optimal; it's proving to be a bigger task than initially estimated, so we're now looking to see if the time and money budgeted for that could be spent on getting super lightweight rims and save weight that way.
