And GHG, that would be an awesome game to go see. I mean, Habs will ruin the Leafs, but this year, so will everyone else...

it will be a rebuilding year for the leafs but with less pressure on the team maybe the guys will be really loose and have a break-out year. You never know!! If Toskala stands on his head...a hot goalie can carry a team.

Montreal on the other hand has a TON of pressure on them this year!! 100th anniversary, Stanley Cup expectations, lots of free agents next year...all that could adversely affect the team.

Time will tell! I'm just excited for the NHL season to start. I got tickets to the Patrick Roy retirement ceremony on Nov 22nd. I AM STOKED!!!!!!! LOL!

06Touring3
09-26-2008, 11:03 AM
there will never be LESS pressure on the Leafs.....they play in Toronto...one of if not the biggest hockey market in the league (right along side the other canadian teams)....i think they're the only team in the league to have losing seasons consistantly but still have gains in revenue...winning is expected here all the time, at all costs, and when you don't perform, they want your head *cough* McCabe *cough*....it's the MLSE why the leafs are so shit...and this season i don't think will be an exception...they have no Captain and haven't had a successful season in a long long time and lets face it....how far can Tlusty, Moore, Mayers, Earl etc take us? Not very considering the caliber of players on OTHER teams in the conference and league as a whole

I AM JEALOUS!!! He's the reason that I became a Habs fan in the first place. I mean, sure, he's had his problems off the ice, but I'm glad that the Canadien brass did the right thing, and are honouring him for what he did on the ice, as he deserves. Roy was an interesting choice...he is really the only player that played in Montreal into the '90's that the Habs can retire. But the way he left the team in 95 and what he did with his junior team last year...let's just say the guy has quite a temper!!!

But he's being honoured for his on-ice performance, not his off-ice performance.

should be quite a night...and then the Grey Cup is in Montreal the following day! (on the 23rd)

Does anyone have the iPhone here? I am thinking about picking it up with a new plan from Rogers, or just getting the BB Pearl 2 for free...more for business purposes since I will be getting the email plan. I've played with both and currently am running on the BB 8320. I'd go with the iPhone simply because of the screen is alot bigger. At first typing on the iPhone can be annoying but you pick on and quick. Running programs is smoother. The internal hard drive is sweet compared to buying internal memory for the BB. I like how you can view e-mails and scroll to the bottom with your finger tip instead of clicking every second to scroll down. It's easier to clean as well. The trackball on the BB tend to get dirty quite quickly and if the trackball sinks in the BB it's a bio...ch to fix.

I watched the debates last night (first 1st half of the Canadian, 2nd half of the American). Didn't like ANYONE in the Canadian, and I actually liked both of them in the American, but I don't know which prez candidate I like.

As for the Canadian debate, though... Everyone was just bashing Harper the whole time (not necessarily undeserved...), and no one REALLY set forth their platforms. Dion was sounding like he was trying, but he never actually said anything. I liked Duceppe, simply for his honesty ("I know I'm not going to be elected Prime Minister. Neither are 3 of you, some of you know that, but won't admit it"), but I don't agree with his party or politics. May had some actually good points, and I was impressed by her, but seriously, if she thinks she has a chance.... Layton just attacked Harper every time he opened his mouth, which should be PART of a debate tactic, but he should also have said something about his party. Harper, I just straight up don't like. He's far too big business oriented, and seems VERY out of touch with the reality that's facing Canadian citizens. He was saying that the recession in the US doesn't affect Canadians, when it really does.

exactly why i waited until today to read about our debate. It wasn't a debate, it was Jack Layton and Stephan Dion trying to bully some sort of economic policy out of Harper. I am glad May fought for her right to partake last nite. She along with the rest of the country knows she won't win the election but at least now the Green party has a leg to stand on.

Stephan Dion. He won the french speaking debate on Wednesday, but can anyone honestly tell me what the **** he's saying when he speaks english?

The American debate went exactly as it should have. Palin used her small town tactics and republican talking points to ease past the fact that she has no real say when it comes to anything regarding foreign or economic policy in the US. And Biden attacked McCain as if he were debating him shooting down Palin arguments with fact, and to no rebut from Palin most of the time.

I love election time! lol

I found the debate very interesting. I agree no one was putting their true thoughts forward except for Elizabeth May whom I am really interested in a lot more suddenly. I dont understand how Harper won the debate considering he said nothing about his platform STILL and just kept restating why he did things that he did. Dion is an ass hat who just kept trying to defend old actions and sounds like he wants to follow all the mistakes by the Liberals before. Jack Layton sounds strong but he was pissing me off yesterday because he would rather talk about other peoples views instead of putting his forward.

i think I am going to put a vote forward for the Green Party but I am not sure if it will really attain to anything as my area seems to be all liberal and conservative voters.

That's my .02

mleblond
10-03-2008, 11:50 AM
green party FTW!!!

Hey every vote gives money to the party in question. The only way for them to become bigger is by putting votes in. Even if you know they wont win in your area. Most people don't know that.

Vote = $ so vote wisely

if you don't vote then your not helping anyone, not even yourself. like throwing money out the window.

I think of it like who would you give 100$ to ? Don't vote for big names, vote for the guy in your region. like if you vote liberal but the guy repin' your region is an ******* what good is that to you? When you go see him for a favor what will happen?

my 2 cents....

LockOut
10-03-2008, 11:53 AM
+1 on the Green Party... but I also feel like it's almost a wasted vote. I am VERY torn this election. I am not one to vote for a party, unlike a lot of people I know. I think that that is a very naive way to vote.

Canada is in need of a major change, and the Harper Conservatives won't give it to us, and the Dion Liberals will cause change, but only a change back to the old ways. But there's no way anyone else is going to get in power. Looks like we may be stagnant for a while. :flaming

EDIT: Mat, I understand the $$$ thing, but I don't think it'll change much, to be honest. The Green Party supporters are dead set on only ever voting Green, and I don't think that the older generations (in general) would consider the Green party as an actual party to vote for. I think that the Green Party only has a chance of ever getting in power if they keep at it until the younger generations (I'm talking those under about 27 years old now) become that older generation and start voting.

kevcol74
10-03-2008, 11:57 AM
Biggest problem with those that do vote nowadays is that they are uneducated in who they vote for... Its either "What was it, Blue or Red that I vote for again... oh ya, I remember Ethel!", or "My parents always voted this way so I will too!"... Those that educate themselves before they vote are the minority, and its frustrating.

For the record, I'm not voting for Homer, I am voting green, again.

Cardinal Fang

I'm voting for my local Marxist Leninist candidate. The guy is certifiable wing-nut and a blast at the all candidates meetings. People just stare at him and wonder just what the hell is he talking about when he advocates violent overthrowing of our government.

The more he talks the crazier he gets and the more I love to egg him on. :hawt

Oh and I forgot....Elizabeth may was the only one with passion that impressed me. Irony is that Gilles Douchebag admitted in the debate he doesn't want to be PM yet he's at the table. May has to fight to be included with these morons. Gilles should have been only allowed to participate in the French language debate and taken out of the English debate.

We have a "Communist Party" here in Kitchener... they had a debate on Rogers the other day. Might help if he actually spoke english!! I didn't understand a word he said, much worse than Dion! lol

SWEET! I thought I was the only one even eyeing the green party especially after these stupid statistics came out after the debate.

Good to know, gotta love the friday thread to be able to just talk about whatever. We never would have got on to this topic without it!

haha Fang

"Gilles Douchebag" just admitted that he cannot become PM because he can only get seats from Quebec, never enough to become PM. How many Ontarians have a Bloc person running in their area?

Harper getting yelled at by almost everybody... I would have lost it if I was him... But very professional he just let it go and explained his side.... (I wonder what he was thinking afterwards LOL)

I do agree... Elizabeth was the only one who seemed more concerned about the system than anyone else.

I can't believe I watched this.... I'm getting old....

I flipped back and forth to the American VP debate. Here's my accessment of what I saw.

Economic Ideas:

Sarah Palin: Not a clue.
Joe Biden: Slightly better than a clue.

Iraq War:

Sarah Palin: Lets stay there. The whether in Baghdad is great this time of year.
Joe Biden: I want my son to come home.

Foreign Policy:

Sarah Palin: Her state is parked beside Russia. She knows how to repel an invasion.
Joe Biden: Would like to throw Palin under the first Russian tank that crosses the Bearing Sea.

M.I.L.F. Factor:

Sarah Palin: Moderately high
Joe Biden: Not so much.

:chuckle... So true, but Biden had a few cute daughters :-P And according to Biden himself, they've got a lot coming to them in the way of inheritance...

But seriously, those were my general thoughts on that debate, as well. Palin is definitely the 'soccer moms/Joe Sixpack" vote getter, though. Just the way she talks and carries herself, she's very "everyman".

I think of it like who would you give 100$ to ? Don't vote for big names, vote for the guy in your region. like if you vote liberal but the guy repin' your region is an ******* what good is that to you? When you go see him for a favor what will happen?

my 2 cents....

True but at the federal level you also have to think that the important thing is to get a party elected so they have a majority or at least enough seats to have some clout in Parliament. I wouldn't worry so much about what the candidate will do in your area...I expect that more from a Provincial or Municipal official. At the federal level the important thing is to vote for the party you want to have representing you in Parliament, not so much the actual person. In the end it's the party that will vote on bills, laws, etc.

And I don't know about going to see your elected official for 'favors'. Isn't that illegal? :chuckle

EDIT: Mat, I understand the $$$ thing, but I don't think it'll change much, to be honest. The Green Party supporters are dead set on only ever voting Green, and I don't think that the older generations (in general) would consider the Green party as an actual party to vote for. I think that the Green Party only has a chance of ever getting in power if they keep at it until the younger generations (I'm talking those under about 27 years old now) become that older generation and start voting.

well I am not trying to say vote green party, I am just pointing out whoever you vote for makes money with your vote. I could not care less who i vote for as my single vote will not change the faith of this country. I vote for independents that make good sense or lower parties. Why? because eventually they will have more $$ to maybe be able to compete with the 2 big parties. Cause they can't afford to be represented in every circumscription. Do you get my point?

hey Peter Milliken here in Kingston has a great office and offers extra services like example you want your passport renewed faster you go see his office. Little things like that if the guy was an ******* he could just say do it yourself...

Anyways I don't want to give money to conservatives or liberals so i vote for someone else. Liberals have been in power for ever here in kingston and it won't change until the guy dies so why not help someone else evole in politics?

Oh yea, I definitely do, and I appreciate it. I wasn't trying to ruffle feathers. I was just trying to bring another perspective in on it. I completely agree that the lesser parties need more funding to have a shot at fighting against the Grits and the Tories. I honestly think it's going to just be a vicious circle, but I'm with you, trying to do everything possible to change that.

I wasn't trying to say vote for these guys or don't vote for those. I personally don't have any political affiliation at this point, so I'm not trying to force it on anyone. Just so I'm clear... haha
