CATIA is what the big auto manufacturers use, like Toyota, Honda and Chrysler. Ford was using SDRC/Ideas, but is switching to CATIA. GM uses UG (Unigraphics) Its expensive, like $30,000 a work station minimum. Most Tier 1, 2 and 3 suppliers use lower levels, like Solid Works or Solid Edge, and ProE.
AutoDesk has Inventor, which works pretty good. I used it alot, know it well.
Here is a sample of CATIA (the car body) and Inventor/Cyclone model with it (the carrier the body is on) I modelled the carrier....
