You'd think something simple as changing the backup tapes could be done by anyone (pull out the tape, put a new one in) but both times I was off recently, didn't get changed. Despite our networking guy and the IT manager both knowing I wasn't there and everything.

People are WAY too reactive here. No one plans for things ahead of time. They just react when things happen. So if something major happens, things go to hell REAL quick here.

Yeah, IT. Went to school for helpdesk/desktop support. At this job, with IT being 4-5 people though, I'm basically the grunt that has to do everything. Programming (VB, ASP, JavaScript, whatever), Desktop support, phone support (cell phones and desktop phones), printers, faxes, servers. And obviously dealing with stupid people that can't even push a button. Or come and tell me the fax machine error light is blinking. When I ask them what error is on the screen they give me an odd look. When I go look, all it needs is paper :bang

Or today, I got someone saying there was a problem with a program, they said "Don't know. Got an error message. Not working"...when asked what the error message said, they said they just clicked OK. :bang

Also had a time when someone put the paper in the copier wrong then questioned why it didn't work.

Yeah, you can tell this job is a great place to work :bang

I worked it out after I got salary. If you take how many hours I work (41.5 per week = 83 per pay period), I started out ~14/hour. When going to salary, they paid me ~15/hour. Now, I'm getting ~16/hour (~35k per year). Yet the cost to commute vs the money I get paid vs the crap I put up with isn't making it worth it anymore. I need to move somewhere closer. Even if it's at the same pay, that will help. Or get paid more to make it more worth it since I don't have much left after things are said and done.

Yeah it's not a cool thing... my grandmother was diabetic and very non compliant so it inspired me to create a program that may be fun for the people so compliance is greater.

I had cooking classes in it, grocery shopping trips, prizes and interactive activities. It was good times. I got a really awesome mark on it too!

Yeah, did 1am rounds everything was fine and at 1:20 come back and same person I check on is in a pool of blood as he managed to break his IV tubing (and IV tubing plastic is strong!) but still keep the cannula inside his vein. So blood everywhere! Was wonderful...
